TIPS FOR TRAVELLING TO MALAYSIA

After you overcome the jet-lag fatigue, enjoy the real heart of Malaysia the people who live there. You will be
surprised at how friendly these people are. They enjoy meeting people from other parts of the world; so, dont be
afraid to start a conversation. The point of travelling is to know other cultures.

Tourist Police
When you lose your way and you need help, look for a tourist police officer. You can see them because theyre
wearing hat, dark blue shirts and trousers and the letter I (for information) on their uniform.

Water
Its generally safe to drink water from the tap. Bottled mineral water is available in shops and supermarkets.

Climate
The weather is Malaysia is a pleasure. Average temperature is between 21 C and 32 C. Humidity is high.
There is rain between November to February on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, on western Sarawak and
north-eastern Sabah. On the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia the rainy season is April to May and October
to November.

Clothing
Malaysia weather is sunny almost all year long, so light clothing is ideal. When women enter mosques and temples,
women should wear long sleeves and loose pants or long skirts.

Etiquette
To avoid cultural offenses, here are some tips:
Remove shoes when you enter homes and places of worship.
Dress a suitable outfit which covers arms and legs when visiting places of worship.
Handle food with your right hand.
Do not point your foot at someone.
When giving or receiving money gifts to/from a Malaysian, do so with your right hand
People in Malaysia greet visitors by placing their right hand over the left chest to mean I greet you from my heart.

Safety
Malaysia is a very safe country. The only problem there is credit card fraud, so you should keep an eye on
your credit cards at all times.

Transport
Transport is cheap and safe. Peninsular Malaysia has a rail and bus network, and Malaysian Borneo has buses.
There is also a domestic flights network
What to eat?
The food in Malaysia is a melting pot of indigenous and Indian and Chinese flavors.

Places to go
Kuala Lumpur - this is the capital of Malaysia. You can visit the Petronas Towers, Batu Caves or Jalan Petaling,
the Kuala Lumpurs version of Chinatown.
Malacca - this is considered a UNESCO World Heritage. Its an old town crowded with shops, boutique hotels
and restaurants. At night, its a busy and lively town.
Perhentian Islands - this is the best destination in Malaysia. The beaches have withe sand and water for
snorkeling and diving.
