This is the segment of mathematics that uses letters in solving various problems

. The word algebra is of Arabic origin, al-Jabar, which means "return."

He was a lawyer and a French mathematician, Francois Viète (15401603), who intr
oduced the use of letters to denote unknown numbers. The algebra has brought eno
rmous progress in mathematics.
E ai galera, all ready to travel this wonderful world of Polynomials? So here we
go!
Polynomials
Note the picture below and then write an algebraic expression that represents th
e total area of the figure. ab â ¢ algebraic expression: bcd R: ab + ad + bc
Answer: a) This expression is a monomial?
R: No b) It consists of those monomials? A: Three
Polynomials: It is a sum of monomials.
The algebraic expression obtained is a polynomial.
Monomial of the polynomial has EVERY CALL FOR TERMINATION. EXAMPLES of polynomia
ls and their specific names
Expression Name Number of polynomial terms
2x2 - 5x3y 13 a4 - b + 5A2 6x3y May 5 - 2y4 +3 x3 - y5

binomial trinomial polynomial
Do it in your notebook. Rate as monomial, binomial, trinomial or polynomial the
following algebraic expressions.
a) 3x2 - 7x b) xc) 4x2z-5x + 3x3 -3 d) x4y2 + 8x2 +1 Check out the answers
You learned to reduce monomials like, now is the time of polynomials.
Write the expression that represents the perimeter of the figure below: x ² +2
x +3 x +2 R: 4 (x ² +3) + 4 (x +2)
x ² +3 x +2
Now write it in the form of a polynomial x +2 reduced: R: x ² 4x ² +3 x +4 +20
Degree of a polynomial REDUCED
Determine the degree of each term (monomials) of the reduced polynomial: 5x2y2 -
3x2y + x5yz2
Grade: 4th Grade: 3rd Grade: 8
The degree of a polynomial, non-zero, is given by its term of highest degree:
What degree of the polynomial
5x2y2 - 3x2y + x5yz2:
R: 8
Determine the degree of each polynomial below:

Polynomial with ONE REAL VARIABLE Note the reduced polynomials: \ appear
x3, x2, x1 and x0
Appear x2, x1 and x0
3x2-x +1
-4x3 + 2x2-x +2
They have only one variable x and the powers of x are sorted in descending order
. In this case we say that are ordered and complete.
