English Language:

Ans 1) The phrase 'give a new look to' means to 'prepare a new version of or
revamp', thus making option 1 the correct answer.

Ans 2) After giving an introduction to how untouchability has existed within India,
last part of the passage mainly speaks about the different legal interventions and
initiatives taken by the government to abolish untouchability. Thus, both option 1
and 2 are correct. Option 4 is completely out of context of the passage. Thus, option 5
is the correct answer.

Ans 3) Although all of the words are synonyms for 'lacunae', in the context of the
passage it has been used in the meaning of a 'gap'. There were lots of gaps or
loopholes in the Act for which it needed to be revamped. Thus, option 5 is the
answer.

Ans 4) The word 'ostracize' means to 'exclude from the society'. Thus the correct
opposite would be 'include'. The rest of the words are synonyms.

2 | Page
Ans 5) The passage has mentioned the name of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar while trying to
pitch a point against untouchability. From his views on untouchability, it can be
inferred that he is concerned about the matter. So, we can say that he was proactively
involved in abolishing it.

Ans 6) According to the passage, untouchability is a practice of discrimination

that can have physical and social forms. The examples mentioned in options 1, 2
and 4 could be considered to be indicating these kinds of discriminations. The
instance given in option 3 can be categorized under gender discrimination. Thus,
option 5 is the correct answer here.

Ans 7) The second paragraph of the passage states that, 'historically persons born
in lowest castes and classes of persons doing menial jobs, criminals, persons
suffering from contagious diseases and tribals living outside the so-called
civilized world were considered as untouchables. This means that since the
untouchables were considered uncivilized, they wee considered to be untouchables.
The other options have not been mentioned in the passage, so option 1 is the correct
answer.

Ans 8) The questions asks that in what form the discrimination against the
untouchables visible? According to the sentence of the first paragraph, 'The
discrimination can be in the form of physical or social boycott from the society.'
Though, 'restricting the right to education' and 'not allowing them to live a life of
dignity' may be inferred from the passage, but both of them can be counted under
social boycott. Option 3 says something that would not amount to discrimination.
Thus, option 2 is the best fit answer.

Ans 9) The last sentence of the first paragraph mentions that the Kshatriyas were
rulers and soldiers making option 4) the correct answer.

3 | Page
Ans 10) The first two sentences of the second paragraph clearly mentions that
untouchables are not recognised under the caste system of the Hindus. Thus, option
2 is the answer.

Ans 11) The sentence with the blank talks about what is UPI. It is described as a set
of apps launched by RBI to help in mobile banking. The given blank needs a word
that is synonymous with the aid provided by the apps and words like hinder ,
obstruct and slow down cannot be used as they refer to blocking or disrupting
normal functions. Out of options 2 and 3, facilitate which means to make an action
easier is a better fit answer. Thus, the correct option is 2.

Ans 12) The sentence talks about Immediate Payment Services which would enable
people to instantly move money from one account to another. Deport, relocation
and migrate are mostly related to movement of humans. Since we are talking about
movement of money from one account to another, transfer is the correct word to fill
the blank. Thus, option 3 is the correct one.

Ans 13) The sentence talks about what the payer will need in order to use the new
apps. A payer can buy or sell via the apps and this will necessitate an exchange of
money. An instance of buying or selling is generally described by the word
transaction. Hence option 1 is the correct answer.

Ans 14) The sentence talks about pin numbers and passwords which are highly
important information related to banking and can do a lot of damage when they get
into wrong hands. Their highly susceptible nature is best described by sensitive
which is the correct answer. Thus, option 4 is the correct one.

Ans 15) It is stated in the paragraph that UPI will allow users to use banking
facilities by using a simple virtual address thereby simplifying the process of online
transactions. Since the process will be simplified, the existing need for passwords etc.

4 | Page
as mentioned in the sentence will be made redundant. Thus, eliminate is the best fit
answer for the given blank. Thus, option 4 is the correct one.

Ans 16) The preposition in is incorrect after brought. Brought in means to carry,
convey, lead or cause. Here, bringing should be synonymous to realizing. Brought
to life means to give something meaning. Note the difference:
Eg: The maid brought in the vegetables from the market.
The character was brought to life by her fantastic acting.

Ans 17) Certain adjectives denote that an element cannot be compared to others.
They cannot be used in comparative or superlative degrees. 'Unique' means one of its
kind and thus there is no question of comparison. Hence the phrase 'most unique' in
the third part of the sentence is incorrect. The correct answer is 'The colour of the
bird's feathers displays a unique ...'

Ans 18) The error lies in part 4 of the sentence where the sentence needs to be re
framed as:'..lunch without the other's coming too'. As 'other' means the one more or
the remaining one. E.g. I don't like this book, give me the other one.
Also, 'another' means 'additional'. E.g. I am still thirsty give me another glass of
water.
As here we need a determiner that denotes the remaining friend so 'other' is an apt
choice.
Ans 19) The usage of since indicates that the activity started in the past and is till
ongoing. And therefore, it should be has been acting. Hence, Option 3) is the correct
answer.

Ans 20) The error lies in part 3 of the sentence as the preposition 'near' is incorrect
here and the correct preposition would be 'next'. The preposition 'next to' means just
beside the building and near can be anywhere close to the particular place. Thus
option 3 is the correct answer.

Ans 21) The first sentence of the passage should introduce the topic of the passage
that is the automobile industry and this is done aptly in sentence D. The second
sentence of the passage explains the market share of the industry in sentence F and
also starts with an article 'the' referring to the 'Indian auto industry' from the
previous line. The third sentence B speaks about the component of the market that
contributes the most and should come next. The reasons for the higher share is
mentioned in sentence E as seen from the use of the word 'moreover'. The fifth
sentence of the passage C speaks of another component of the market and the last
sentence A concludes the passage mentioning Indias growth expectation in near
future.

The correct order of sentence is DFBECA.

The second sentence is F.

Ans 26) The meanings of the words are as follows:

Brand: A type of product manufactured by a particular company under a particular

name.

Exceptional: Not typical.

Akin: Of similar character.

Ostensible: Stated or appearing to be true, but not necessarily so.

Desperate: feeling or showing a hopeless sense that a situation is so bad as to be

impossible to deal with.

Stormy: characterized by strong winds and usually rain, thunder, lightning, or snow.

Desirable: wished for as being an attractive, useful, or necessary course of action.

Hurricane: a storm with a violent wind, in particular a tropical cyclone in the

Caribbean.

As in the first part of the sentence something is compared as affirmed by the use of
to, the word akin is the best fit. But as the word unfeasible is used in the first part

8 | Page
of the sentence it is clear that the task is compared to something impossible and so
hurricane is the perfect fit.

The sentence is trying to compare something with a very difficult situation. Hence, 4.

Ans 27) As there is an article before the first blank, option 1 and two are directly
eliminated. The meanings of the words are as follows:

Elite: A group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group or
society.

Indigenously: Originating in and characteristic of a particular region or country

Nonpareil: having no match or equal; unrivalled.

Carelessly: Marked by or resulting from lack of forethought or thoroughness:

Lunatic: a person who is mentally ill (not in technical use).

Sloppily: in a careless or unfashionable manner

Ordinary: with no special or distinctive features; normal.

The sentence says that India has joined those few countries that could develop and
launch scramjet rockets. Obvious such a group cannot be ordinary. Hence, option 5 is
eliminated. An engine cannot be developed sloppily thus only option 3 fits the
blanks.

Ans 28) If someone does something good, we give them credit for it and altruism
means being concerned about others and helping them. Option 1 and 3 have both
words synonymous with each other meaning 'generosity and selfless help' and option
4 has two words 'avarice' meaning 'greed and self pride' which is not correct as per
the context. Option 5 has second word as 'deceit' which means 'to deceive someone
by hiding the truth'. As one cannot give credit for one's deceit this option is ruled out.
Hence option 2 is the right answer.
9 | Page
Ans 29) Here the clue is in the last part of the sentence, which tells us for
explaining the first part and that she rarely sang in public, hence option 1,3,and 4
have both words synonyms to each other so are inapt. 'talented' can be used in first
blank which means having the talent'. But, 'vociferous' means 'very outspoken or
vocal' in option 2 is unfit in the context. Thus, reserved meaning 'very shy' is the
correct word. Hence option 5 is the right answer.

Ans 30) 'Vein' is a blood vessel in our body; and girl, who does not care for anyone
but herself. 'Vain and narcissistic' means one who loves oneself only. So all the other
options are unfit in this context, hence option 2 is the right answer.

20% of [{(450/100 20) - 60} % of 360] = 300% of ?

20% of [{90 - 60}/100 360] = 300% of ?

20% of 108 = 300% of ?

Step-2- Any mathematical 'Of' or 'Exponent' must be solved next,

20/100 108 = 300/100 ?

21.6 = 300/100 ?
10 | P a g e
21.6 100/300 = ?

7.2 = ?

Hence the required answer is 7.2.

Ans 32) To solve questions of this type, follow the laws of Surds and indices given

? = 2.5

Ans 36) I. x2 7x 18 = 0

x2 9x + 2x 18 = 0

x(x 9) + 2(x 9) = 0

(x 9)(x + 2) = 0

Then, x = + 9 or x = - 2

II. y2 20y + 99 = 0

y2 11y 9y + 99 = 0

y(y 11) 9(y 11) = 0

(y 11)(y 9)= 0

Then, y = + 11 or y = + 9

So, when x = + 9, x < y for y = + 11 and x = y for y = + 9

And when x = - 2, x < y for y = + 11 and x < y for y = + 9

So, we can clearly observe that x y.

Ans 37) I. 24x2 + 14x + 2 = 0

24x2 + 8x + 6x + 2 = 0

8x(3x + 1) + 2(3x + 1) = 0

13 | P a g e
(3x + 1)(8x + 2) = 0

Then, x = - 1/3 or x = - 2/8 = -

II. 15y2 + 2y 1 = 0

15y2 + 5y 3y 1 = 0

5y(3y + 1) 1(3y + 1) = 0

(3y + 1)(5y 1) = 0

Then, y = - 1/3 or y = + 1/5

So, when x = - 1/3, x = y for y = - 1/3 and x < y for y = + 1/5

And when x = - , x > y for y = - 1/3 and x < y for y = + 1/5

So, we can observe that no clear relationship cannot be determined between x and
y.

Ans 38) I. 2x2 7x + 5 = 0

3y(2y 1) 1(2y 1) = 0

(2y 1)(3y 1) = 0

Then, y = + or y = + 1/3

So, when x = + 5/2, x > y for y = + and x > y for y = + 1/3

14 | P a g e
And when x = + 1, x > y for y = + and x > y for y = + 1/3

We can clearly see that x > y.

Ans 39) I. 5x2 16x + 3 = 0

5x2 15x x + 3= 0

5x(x 3) 1(x 3) = 0

(x 3) (5x 1) = 0

Then, x = + 3 or x = + 1/5

II. 4y2 + 11y 3 = 0

4y2 + 12y y 3 = 0

4y(y + 3) 1(y + 3) = 0

(y + 3)(4y 1) = 0

Then, y = - 3 or y = + 1/4

So, when x = + 3, x > y for y = - 3 and x > y for y = +

And when x = + 1/5, x > y for y = - 3 and x < y for y = +

So, we can observe that no clear relationship cannot be determined between x and
y.

Ans 40) I. 2x2 7x + 5 = 0

2x2 5x 2x + 5 = 0

x(2x 5) 1(2x 5) = 0

(2x 5)(x 1) = 0

Then, x = + 5/2 or x = + 1

Then, y = + 1 or y = +

So, when x = + 5/2, x > y for y = + 1 and x > y for y = +

And when x = + 1, x = y for y = + 1 and x > y for y = +

So, we can clearly observe that x y.

Ans 41) Assume that t hours after Ali starts, he will meet Bin.

Ali has travelled for t hours & Bin has travelled for (t 1) hours, as Bin has started
1 hour after Ali.

Velocity of Ali = 20 km/hour

Distance travelled by Ali = 20t km.

Velocity of Bin = 25 km/hour

Distance travelled by Bin = 25 (t 1) km.

The total distance travelled by them = 20t + 25(t 1) km.

Now, the total distance travelled by them = the distance between two cities Delhi and
Bombay

20t + 25(t 1) = 110

45t 25 = 110

45t = 135

t = 3 hours

16 | P a g e
3 hours after Ali starts, he will meet with Bin.

Ans 42) Let income of Anil and Sunil be 5y and 4y respectively and their expenses
be 4x and 3x respectively, where x and y be any constant

We know, income = expenditure + saving

For Anil

5y 4x = 1200 -------------1

For sunil

4y 3x = 1200 -------------2

Solving equation 1 and 2, we get

y = 1200

Anils income = 5 1200 = Rs.6000

Sunils income = 4 1200 = 4800

Ans 43) The profit will be distributed in the ratio of their effective investment of
capitals.

Neeraj invested capital for 3 years = 36 months.

Effective Capital invested by Neeraj = 25000 36 = 900000

Since Dheeraj joined 6 months later, he invested capital for 2 years and 6 months =
30 months

17 | P a g e
Effective capital invested by Dheeraj = 35000 30 = 1050000

Therefore, the ratio of their effective investments = 900000: 1050000 = 6: 7

Share of Neeraj in profit

Hence, Neeraj earned a profit of Rs.6000.

19 | P a g e
Consonants in word AVERAGE = V, R and G

If all vowels are together and all consonants are together, then either all vowels come
and then all consonants come, or vice versa.

All vowels can come together such that no two same letters are together in these
ways; AEAE or EAEA.

Three different consonants can come together in 3!, i.e., 6 ways.

Total number of ways = 2 2 6 = 24

Ans 50) Suppose in 1 gram of mixture, there are T gram of silver and (1 T) gram of
gold.

Price of 1 gram of silver = Rs. 100

Price of T gram of silver = Rs. 100T

Price of 1 gram of gold = Rs. 3000

Price of (1-T) gram of gold = Rs. (3000 3000T)

Price of 1 gram of mixture = Price of T gram of silver + Price of (1-T) gram of gold.

= Rs. (100T + 3000 3000T)

= Rs. (3000 2900T)

As per given information, cost of mixture, cost of mixture is Rs. 2710 per gram.

3000 2900T = 2710

2900T = 290

Time taken by Abhishek to finish the job = 20 days

1 days work by Abhishek = 1/20

Let total time needed to finish the job be x days

24 | P a g e
Abhishek left 4 days before the job is to be finished, so he worked for (x 4) days

1 days work by (Ashish + Abhishek) = (1/10) + (1/20) = (3/20)

Work done in (x 4) days = (3/20) (x 4)

And Work done in last 4 days by Ashish alone = (1/10) 4 = (2/5)

Remaining work = 3/5

This work is done by (Ashish + Abhishek)

Time taken by (Ashish + Abhishek) to finish the work days

Ans 58) Assume that the vendor bought the article for `Rs. x

Given that he sells the article at a gain of 15%.

We know that profit% = , Profit = (Selling price) (Cost price)

0.15x = (selling price) x

Selling price of the article = 1.15x

If he had bought it at 10% less, then

The new cost price = x (10x/100) = 0.9x

Besides, if he sold it for Rs.4 less, then

The new selling price = [(1.15x) 4]

He would have gained 25% with these new cost price and selling prices

0.25 (0.9x) = (0.25x) 4

0.225x = 0.25x 4

0.025x = 4

x = (4/0.025) = Rs.160

The cost price of the article is Rs.160

Ans 59) Let the height of water initially in the vessel be h1 cm.

Volume of a water in right circular cylindrical vessel = r 2h1 cubic units

Where r1 is the radius of the sphere.

Lets assume that when a solid sphere of radius r 2 is lowered in the water, the water
level rises to a new height of h2 cm.

Rise in water level = (h2 h1) cm

New volume of content inside vessel = initial volume of water + volume of sphere

h2 h1 = 3 cm

Ans 60) Let age of Tom be T years.

Age of Toms brother = (T + 6) years

The age of mother is three times of Toms brothers age.

Age of Toms mother = 3(T + 6) years

Toms mother is 1 year younger than toms father.

Age of Toms father = (3(T + 6) + 1) years

After 1 year, the age of their father will be twice the sum of ages of Tom and Toms
brother.

(3(T + 6) + 1) + 1 = 2(T + 1 + T + 6 + 1)

3T + 20 = 4T + 16

T=4

Fathers age = (3(T + 6) + 1) years = 31 years

26 | P a g e
After 11 years, fathers age will be 42 years.

Steel coils produced by D in 2010 = 12.5 7.5 = 5 million tones

Percentage share in the production of steel coils

Ans 62) Average annual rate increase is given by

Total steel production = Production of steel sheet + Production of steel coils

Production of steel sheet in 2008 (in million tonnes) = 17

Production of steel coils in 2008 (in million tonnes) = 18

Total steel production in 2008 (in million tonnes) = 17 + 18 = 35

Production of steel sheet in 2010 (in million tonnes) = 26

Production of steel coils in 2010 (in million tonnes) = 24

Total steel production in 2010 (in million tonnes) = 26 + 24 = 50

Increase in steel production (in million tonnes) = 50 35 = 15

Average annual rate increase

Ans 63) Production of steel sheet in 2009 (in million tonnes) = 22

Since C does not make sheets, only 4 manufacturers (A, B, D and E) make sheets

Number of manufacturers = 4

Average production per manufacturer for steel sheet in 2009 (in million tonnes) =
22/4 = 5.5

Production of steel coils in 2009 (in million tonnes) = 20

Number of manufacturers (A, B, C, D and E) = 5

Average production per manufacturer for steel coils in 2009 (in million tonnes) =
20/5 =4

Ratio of average production per manufacturer for sheets to that for coils = 5.5:4 =
11:8

Ans 64) From the line graph it can be seen that in the year 2005 and 2006 steel coil
production is greater than steel sheet production

In 2005

Production of steel sheet = 4 106 tonnes

Production of steel coils = 6 106 tonnes

In 2006

Production of steel sheet = 7 106 tonnes

Production of steel coils = 10 106 tonnes

28 | P a g e
Ans 65) Total steel production = Production of steel sheet + Production of steel
coils

1 million = 106

Production of steel sheet in 2007 = 12 106 tonnes

Production of steel coils in 2007 = 10 106 tonnes

Total steel production in 2007 = 12 106 tonnes + 10 106 tonnes = 22 106 tonnes

Percent share of the manufacturer E in total production of steel = 10%

Steel manufactured by the manufacturer E in 2007 = 10% of 22 10 6 tonnes = 22

105 = 22,00000 tonnes

TS, NJ, MO, ST, YK, KY, JN, they all participated in a drawing competition therefore
some are facing north and some are facing south.
They are using different techniques of drawing and painting.
1) YK faces north and using crayons.
2) Only two people sit to the right of YK.
3) MO sits third to the left the one who uses crayons.
4) MO faces the opposite direction as YK. So he faces south.
5) ST sits to the immediate right of TS who uses Sketch pens.
6) TS do not sit at the extreme left end and faces the north.
7) The one who sits immediate left of a Sketch pen user uses Pastel colors and
immediate right uses Oil painting.
8) Only one person sits between TS and one who do Canvas painting.
9) NJ sits Between OM and MO.
10) Both the immediate neighbors of the competitor who uses Pastel colors face the
same direction. So, NJ faces north direction.
11) JN sits to the third left of the one who uses Oil painting technique. So, ST, who
uses oil painting, faces south direction because if ST faces north direction, then his
third left NJ already sits before.
12) Now remaining KY sits between YK and JN.
