WRITING

WRITE ABOUT WHAT IF ...

"So I started writing. As a way of dramatizing the solution of the artist's life
's obstacles. "Anaïs Nin TS Eliot, one of the most important writers of modern E
nglish literature of the early twentieth century, said that "writing is to get r
id of emotion." In the sense that, when writing, we are playing the emotion "out
", making this "burden" off of ourselves. We give another - the reader - this se
ntiment in an attempt to feel more relieved to no longer terms that monopolize t
his load sensitivity, and to share, through writing, our anxieties. The writer q
uoted above, Anaïs Nin, part precisely this question of why to write. The "artis
t" to which the author of the last century refers to is herself and for her, is
critical (and critical) this level of abstraction and the exercise of subjectivi
ty that provides writing. As important as reading is also the activity of writin
g. There are countless benefits gained by this practice, but above many others,
is the ability that gives this act of self-knowledge. And on a scale even more i
mportant, get the proper practice of writing directly influences the exercise of
citizenship. Do not write well or simply do not understand through writing toda
y, puts us out of much of daily practices. And yet there are those who can "circ
umvent" this kind of problem, denying the opportunity to learn, that fact is not
exercising the practice of the written word deprives us of important moments of
growth, where does this reflection, discovery, learning and discussion with the
elements that are part of our society, our conscience and our spirit. "Snoopy"

To write well, reading is a great site!
It is important to understand that good writing practice is accompanied by the p
ractice of reading, another unique moment to give wings to imagination and the e
xercise of abstraction. Also promoting self-knowledge, reading transforms us, be
cause from the moment you get used to this kind of communication and dialogue, w
e understand the world better, since they understand the world also means "read"
this world. Writing involves working with in this way, then, the work also read
ing, since there is evidence that the two practices are absurdly intertwined. "M
onica's Gang," by Mauricio de Sousa
With the text in the context
Obviously, do not write does not mean the end for those who do not do well or wh
o simply do not exercise the newsroom. Not at all. But express themselves well t
hrough writing has become a fundamental element in social practices, something i
ncreasingly necessary to differentiate themselves. By nature, many universities,
colleges, businesses and others have charged the practice of writing as a way t
o know their candidates. Under this interest, there is the simple intent of tryi
ng to understand how these people express themselves on certain issues, with inf
ormation implied that, when assessing such texts should be based on the cultural
norms of the English language. Throughout the period of activities of this disc
ipline - can thus be called - will consider the practices of reading and writing
, analyzing not only the mode of which there is more interest is the dissertatio
n, as well as the interpretation of texts, the study the textual structure and i
ssues of language, among others. To that end, what matters from here is to be un
derstood through writing, observing the most important criterion at this time: a
CLARITY. But such thing as cultural norms? It is understood by cultural norms (
this terrible name ...) what is attached to the traditional rules of grammar, ie
the operating rules for the words of a language and how these elements fit toge
ther in phrases, sentences and / or periods ; the spelling rules and structure o
f language, when applied to cultural norms of the English language, must comply
with these rules predetermined by the grammar.

What counts here is the clarity in the former pressure, as has been said. Especi

DISSERTATION
As the main textual model with which we work will be the essay text, we began ou
r work by analyzing, after all, that this is about.€A good dissertation follows
a particular style of prose, where the element that is most needed is without do
ubt the arguments, or defend a point of view about certain subject. It has been
like this dissertation, the text surrounding the discussion. Here, beyond the ca
pacity of argument and the ability to express themselves well, a good text and t
his style requires critical - something essential for this - objectivity.
For the proper wording, then we must have: • • • • UNIT COHESION SELF CONSISTENC
Y
and we must be aware of two very important points: • • CONTENT FORM
Defending a point of view, persuasion, presentation of ideas - evidence / exampl
es; definition of positioning, organization of ideas
Throughout the activities, will discuss these points one by one, using examples,
and especially from the textual practices.
Structure of dissertation
In all forms the narrative structure that shapes the texts is generally invarian
t. Classifications are changed, change the goals themselves, but in general, the

much of the prose texts are fragments of three basic, essential, especially if w
e are watching how to build a dissertation: • • • INTRODUCTION DEVELOPMENT CONCL
USION
It presents the topic and point to the "paths" that will follow in the text, fro
m some brief information
It's time to bring the evidence, examples, that they "light up" a thread. It is
from this underlying the argument and draws the author's opinion. It is time to
resume the subject, already enriched by information provided along the dissertat
ion, showing objectively opinion about the issue and the question asked from the
proposal.
BASIC CARE TO WRITING
The care with how manuscripts is very important for the proper presentation of s
uch documents and demands attention of the student. The way the text presents it
self defines much of the design that the reader is one who writes. Not all the e
lements of form and the aesthetic aspect of writing that are valued but are as e
lementary part at first and some of these elements also add to the content, and
demonstrate care and good taste.

Basically, as the dissertation, we will work very simple models proposed and red

(UFRGS, 2001) The ends justify the means? This is a recurring question that not
only permeates many issues of public life, but it affects, often, our decisions
to the private sphere. After all, is not always easy to decide what is evil or t
he greater good when we are at a crossroads, forced to make a decision between t
wo options without that none of them seems to us simple. Imagine the following s
ituation: one of his closest colleagues at school is sick and needs to carry out
a final course. You're tempted to do the job for him, but is not willing to hur
t the school ethos. What would be the most correct decision towards this conflic
t? In a role somewhat different picture, for example, a teacher in a class counc
il, must decide whether to approve a student who has not reached the goals in mo
re than one discipline, but you need much to finish her course one might assume
already secured employment. That would be a situation of extreme conflict for th
e group of teachers, since they know that in some cases, a job for an egress of
high school can mean the chance of students leaving school for an integrated lif
e, while the repetition can be an invitation to marginalization. However, the sc
hool requires approval by ethical use. Approve this student would therefore be t
o treat it in a special way and contrary to the principles that should govern su

A Model of Text: In order to understand a little better the functioning of a tex
t within its structure we observe an essay below, written by a student. Taking t
he theme "Lie" as a proposal to develop a writing practice, analyze the followin
g textual output: Danger to society "Talk about a lie is something that, unwitti
ngly, ends up sounding dubious. There's a fine line between a lie as good or as
bad. For me, no doubt, the attitude of lying is bad, since even small lies can t
urn out to be indicators of a bad behavior on the part of being human. "1) The a
uthor points from their first statement which is Your opinion on the subject and
synthesizes through assertive direct its position ("There's a fine line," etc.)
. Interesting perceive the use of "For me ... 'that configures the authorship of
the text, ie there someone talking in their own words. The personal view will m
ake this segment even more interesting if we find it is through this that the au
thor defines his subject, showing that bias will be considered under the issue -
the lie as something bad. "It is a fact that lie is already part of our society
long ago. In my opinion it would be impossible to get people not to lie anymore
, not even that the company is "recreated." Lying is a natural human act, someth
ing he always ends up discovering in many situations the best solution. In situa
tions of danger, for example: lying seems to be the best way out, bringing, even
for a short period only, a benefit for himself. But will it be good for others?
For Because of this type of questioning that we should reflect on the validity
of such an attitude. "2) In this first paragraph is used to develop an interesti
ng feature: the observation of reality through the topic. It is also used the de
vice to be revealed another perspective (good), something essential to understan
d the opinion of the writer, a view in relief again through the passage in which
the author writes "In my opinion ...". The wording of UFRGS, for example, is a
evidence that allows this kind of personal intervention, something no doubt very
important to confirm the convictions of the writer. At the end of this segment,
there is still time for that "spark" a possible question to be debated, the rea
l point where you want to go the author. It is from here that comes the main poi
nt of argument. "The lie is too imbued in us, so that if even at football games,
the player may lie, deceive the judge and the opposing team, under the excuse t
he "street smarts", which prevents the burglar from stealing? This is the main d
anger: to accept the lie as something quite normal and even important, even harm
ful. I lied many times and in some cases very sorry, but perhaps even good, to s
ee how this was not something beneficial in my life. "3) Yes, now is worth inclu
ding an account of personal experience, no doubt we have the necessary arguments
to conclude this reflection, emphasizing the view which is arrived.
EDITORIAL Page 8 of 20 Module I
"Discuss the lie is complicated. Unfortunately, in this discussion, people forge
t something important: we live in a world where the media in mind all the time,
omitting information at all times. We should at least give our neighbors, the ri
ght to know the truth. "4) The theme is taken from your starting point (a compli
cated discussion about the issue), another interesting feature. It is a simple o
bservation and through this observation that the author intends to give a "solut
ion" to the problem. And that is something very important: there is no reason to
demonstrate understanding of the matter is there is no way to solve it - even i
f its resolution does not exist, this conclusion requires further explanation, b
ut it is important that the author shows how he thinks the subject can reach an
"end". Note that the option to use four paragraphs was efficient in this text we
have just observed. Do not ever rule out the decision to use three or five, for
example (where the modification should always be located in the paragraphs of d
evelopment). It all depends on how complex the proposal, how many lines of text
and should contain content that is either exposed by the writer. Emphasis on per
sonal opinion: Having in mind the dissertation as textual modality, we can never
fail to express a personal opinion - she is the generating element of any discu
ssion in the text and should always be expressed with emphasis.€"Snoopy" by Char

On February 11, 2007, the Portuguese people voted and "decriminalized" abortion.

that most, coerced or not, begins to want to continue playing. "(Adapted from Ju

3) (PUC, 2004) The hard thing for me is to get ... I am uninspired today. I get
blocked when I have to write thank you! My handwriting is horrible ... I even ha
ve ideas, the problem is the grammar ... I have many ideas, but I can not put th
em on paper ... A lot of work to be writing, I prefer to talk by phone ... Oh no
! Writing again?!
While in the school situation it is often possible to circumvent this requiremen
t, or do it just to "pass the year," sooner or later there comes a time when com
unicarse written - and well - it is essential, sometimes even decisive . In this
case, the solution for those who are not proficient in writing will identify th
eir problems and seek ways to overcome them. If this is your case, consider the
following questions:
Because writing is not always easy? What can you do to overcome the difficulties
with writing?
If, however, you have no trouble writing, or want to broach the subject on the b
right side, you may do so, reflecting on the following theme:
The importance of writing with proficiency for personal and professional success

Whatever your choice, arrange an opinionated text presenting their views by mean

4) (UFRGS, 2006) You must write a text character essay addressing the topic:
Just have TALENT to win a place in the world?
In the dissertation, review the proposed theme, establishes a point of view and
choice arguments that subsidize. The information that follow are intended to ass
ist in contextualizing the subject. The word TALENT, in its first sense, appoint
ed a coin and a weight measure of the Greco-Roman. Then came to mean exceptional
intelligence, natural ability, a notion that substantiate the parable of Matthe
w's Gospel, in which a man distributed among his three servants talents commensu
rate with the capacity of each one so they should make them bear fruit. Today, s
chools say they are factories for talent, advertising agencies, announce their t
alents as managers of successful companies credit their success to the talents o
f its staff. Talent everywhere ... Daiane dos Santos, gymnast, is very contempor
ary example of talent. Historically, winning a place in the world has been the a
spiration of man. Goethe, the forerunner of the Romantic movement, summed up his
career as follows: "To be what I am today, I went several men [...]. All I know
the cost of pain experiences," and Kennedy expressed much more eloquently than
to say that the limit of man is the limit of your dreams. Discover their talents
entails the search for self-knowledge and also involves the individual's intera
ction with reality and with their social group. This leads us to think of the hu
man being as an eternal student of life. Even though their achievements and idea
s are associated with simple things, they involve dedication and commitment. Bui

5) (UERGS, 2003) Change and repeat alternate in human experience. In any dimensi
on which considers that there are always things that tend to change and others w
ho tend to stay. This can happen in the general plan of a community, as well as
on the single plane in the life of a single individual. Certain times, however,
seem to be characterized by a particular emphasis on change in the exchange,€the
change - and this seems the case of our era, both in broader sense, as seen in
technology, and in more specific sense, as seen in terms of policy. The three th
emes of writing, presented below, revolve around the idea of change. You should
carefully read the three proposals, choose one of them, and on the chosen theme,
organize your thinking and write your essay, a dissertation. 1. Brazil and chan
ge. In this theme, you should discuss the conditions and skills that our country
has shown (or is showing) in relation to changes, both broadly and in some spec
ific way. Select event (s) copy (s) and Review (s) according to the perspective
you have chosen. 2. Rio Grande do Sul and change. In this issue, it is of the sa
me questions of the previous theme, but focused within our state. As there, look
find specific examples that you know, from experience or otherwise, and present
them according to their perspective. 3. The change in my life. In this third an
d final theme, the focus is their own personal experience. The conditions and pe
rsonal skills to promote change or face the consequences it entails, all this is
matter for reflection. Remember that in all three cases you must write a disser
tation, text, characterized by the effort of rational argument in favor of a the
sis. As mentioned before, of course you can use multiple elements in your text -
personal case reports, descriptions of circumstances copies, references to situ
ations that you know by reading and others. But do not forget that in your text
should clearly dominate the size essay, defending a point of view, the handling
of the arguments, etc.. Your essay will not be absolutely evaluated by other cri

competence of his argument; their political, social, religious, can be expressed
as his belief, freely. Choose therefore one of the topics and stay within its l
imits, to present a clear and well organized text. Your essay should have minimu
