Arcade Pool II

8 Ball Pool Custom Rules

1 Game Objective
The objective of this game is for an individual player to pot all the balls of their
particular group and then legally pot the 8 ball to win the game. 8 ball custom is
basically played with exactly the same rules as in 8 ball (UK). However there are
available a number of options that may be utilised to tailor the desired nature of the
game. Differing combinations of these may be used to produce 255 possible variants
of the normal 8 ball (UK) rules.

2 Game Start

i The game starts in the same way as 8 ball (UK), with all rules for breaking applicable.

ii After the break, play continues in the same way as 8 ball (UK) unless a predefined
custom setting comes into effect.

3 Fouls
All fouls that occur in 8 ball (UK) fully apply to 8 ball custom, except for fouls that are
directly affected by subsequent alteration of the custom settings.

i Potting opponent ball is always a foul

If this option is enabled, a foul is awarded every time an opponent ball is potted. If
disabled, the player may legally pot an opponent ball providing one of the players own
group is struck first. This must also include potting a ball of the players own group in
the same shot.

ii Only play down table after a foul

If this option is enabled and a player has a freeshot they must play down the table on
to a ball below the headstring. Failure to this will result in a foul being awarded to the
opposing player. If the option is disabled then any ball may be legally played.

4 Award Following A Foul

All awards that occur following a foul in 8 ball (UK) fully apply to 8 ball custom, except
for awards that are directly affected by subsequent alteration of the custom settings.

i Ball in hand after a foul

If this option is enabled an awarded player may play the cue ball from where it lies or
move it anywhere within the D. If the option is disabled then the awarded player
must play the cue ball from where it lies. If the cue ball was potted it must be played
from the cue ball spot in this case.

ii Freeshot until a miss

If this option is enabled the awarded player will retain a freeshot until such a time that
they fail to legally pot a ball of their own group. When the freeshot is applicable the
player may play at any ball on the table but the 8 ball cannot be potted. When the
player fails to pot a ball of their group, play is then continued as normal. If the option
is disabled a player will only receive a single freeshot after a foul.

iii No freeshot if only 8 ball remains

If this option is enabled and the awarded player is required to only pot the 8 ball to
win the game, they will not receive a freeshot. This ensures that only a single shot is
available to attempt to pot the 8 ball. If the option is disabled an awarded player will
receive a freeshot even if they are only required to pot the 8 ball to win the game.

iv Freeshot after a foul

If this option is enabled, the awarded player will receive a freeshot after a foul and
then normal freeshot 8 ball (UK) rules are applicable. If the option is disabled no
freeshot will be received and the awarded player must play a ball from their group.

5 Game Loss
All game loss circumstances that occur in 8 ball (UK) fully apply to 8 ball custom, with
the exception of a main option which affects how a game may be lost. This is directly
related to the situation arising from the illegal potting of the 8 ball.

Re-spotting the 8 ball when illegally potted

If this option is enabled the 8 ball will be placed back on its spot should it happen to
be illegally potted. A player will not lose a match automatically if they accidentally pot
the 8 ball or commit some other foul when potting the 8 ball. If the option is disabled,
normal 8 ball (UK) rules apply. A player will lose the game for potting the 8 ball prior to
potting all the assigned group, or if they pot the cue ball or another object ball in the
same shot as they pot the 8 ball.

6 General
The game is ended when the 8 ball is potted in any pocket and all the remaining balls
including the cue ball have come to rest. The exception is an option to affect whether
the 8 ball may be potted in any pocket or must alternatively go into a nominated one.

Nominate pocket for 8 ball

If this option is enabled then a pocket must be nominated for potting the 8 ball. If the 8
ball is potted in a pocket other than the nominated one then it is deemed an illegal
pot. Should this situation arise then the options stipulated in section 5 will come into
effect dependant on the custom setting for re-spotting of the 8 ball. If the option is
disabled, normal 8 ball (UK) rules apply and it may be potted in any pocket.
