Unit Title: Responsible Living with Matter

Unit Time Frame: June 13-14, 20-21

Unit Summary:
Matter matters. The food you eat, the clothes you wear, the books you read, and the paper
you write on are all matter. In this unit, the pupils will learn about the matter and its properties,
they will also learn on how to distinguish useful and harmful materials, the changes in matter,
and on how to be responsible living with matter

Stage Standards:
The pupils will able to classify the matter based on its properties, on its changes either
physical or chemical, also based on its potential to harm if its useful or harmful and be a
responsible in proper waste management.

Student Goals:
1. Define matter
2. Describe the properties of matter
3. Understand the properties of matter
4. Describe what is a result of a physical change
5. Infer that no new material is observed in physical changes
6. Describe what is a result of a chemical change
7. Infer that a new material is observed in chemical changes
8. Infer that the product of chemical change cannot be brought to its original form
9. Determine the usefulness and harmfulness of matter
10. Conduct an activity

Student Objectives:
1. Differentiate the different properties of matter
2. Enumerate the different kinds of physical and chemical properties of matter.
3. Pass the activities on Sharpen Your Skill on page 18-20.
4. Conduct the activity 1 on page 21-23 of Real-Life Science 5 and page 5 of Science
Grade 5.
5. Distinguish the difference of matter that undergoes either physical or chemical
change.
6. Enumerate the different kinds of physical change and chemical change.
7. Differentiate the difference between physical and chemical change.
8. Pass the activities on Sharpen Your Skill on page 35-38.

- Direction: Let us find out the properties and characteristics of some of these materials.
Fill in the chart with the correct words to describe the properties of each materials. On the
back of the paper, list at least 20 materials you see while you do your field trip and do the
same on the chart.
