Food Chains & Food Webs

1. Food Chain - a community of organisms where each member is

eaten in turn by another member

2. Food Web - a community of several different food chains

3. Abiotic Factor - non-living factors: air, sun, water

4. Biotic Factor - living factors: plants, animals, fungi

5. Terrestrial - land ecosystem

6. Aquatic - water ecosystem

7. Producer (Autotroph) - organism that makes its own food

8. Consumer (Heterotroph) - feeds on plants and other animals

9. Decomposer - organism that feeds on organic matter; breaks down

dead organisms

10. Herbivore - animal that eats only plants

11. Carnivore - animal that eats other animals (only meat)

12. Omnivore - animal that eats both plants and animals

13. Limiting Factors - environmental conditions that limit the growth of

organisms
