What is a Project Design?

A project design is a perspective sketch or outline reflecting project concept, manner of


implementation and the output expected to be generated through elements constituting
the design which basically tell how the project will be undertaken. It provides sufficient
information to test a proposed projects feasibility.

PROJECT DESIGN

Project Title: refers to the name by which the project may be called or identified

Proponent: means the initiator of the project who may be an individual or an agency or
groups of individuals or agencies

Rationale: is a descriptive summary of the project which includes the statement of the
problem being addressed by the project, the goals and objectives as well as the expected
outputs, and approaches /strategies to be used to realize said output. The rationale serves
as justification or reasons for proposing the project

Goal: is the overview of the projects aim or utmost objective towards which successful
implementation of the project will contribute

Objectives: represents a more specific statements or enumeration of aims (short and/or


long-term) that the project would like to achieve in support of the general goal

Methodology/Strategy: refers to the project execution system or design through which


the project may be implemented

Organization: means the management and administrative structure that oversees the
projects operationalization

Budget: is a clear presentation of how the project funds or resources are allocated among
different expenditure items or categories necessary to support the project and ensure its
completion

Timetable: refers to the schedule of various activities vital to the completion and
operation of the project. This is to keep the project continuously operating from the
beginning to the final stages of operation

Output: is the specific result or results expected from the project, consistent with the
goals and objectives identified
Evaluation: is an assessment of whether projections made during the project
conception/preparation stage have been achieved, i.e. whether goals and objectives are
realized, whether project benefits are greater than costs incurred in social and economic
terms, whether projects have been properly managed and operated, and have been
completed as scheduled or programmed
