My Nursing Philosophy

Nursing for me is care and compassion delivered to create an environment that supports healing.

This can be provided at any location and delivered by a nurse or any person with the ability to

show love and support to another human being. This definition changes slightly when we

account for the care and support provided by a health care professional.

I view nursing as the most compassionate and helpful career in the world. Nurses are typically

caregivers and nursing is a most rewarding career. My philosophy towards nursing encompasses:

the environment, health and nursing itself. As my understanding develops and refines through

academic learning and through practice, the essential role of nursing is to assist patients for their

wellness in a professional manner. And health in the medical field is commonly defined as a state

of balance of the mind-body and spirit that results in an overall feeling of well-being. Now when

we talk about assisting patients in a professional manner, we talk about the strict ethical and

moral traits that nurses must adhere to when assisting patients. These ethical and moral traits are

developed over a period of time through academic learning, discussions and most importantly

when reflected through experience.

Nursing is an art made up of many different obligations that are carried out in different phases of

health. The nurse assists in promoting health and preventing illness, either between two people or

the community. The nurse also aids the sick client in returning to good health. If achieving the

original state of health is not possible, the nurse assists the client in getting to the best stage of

health possible for that individual and helps the client adapt to the condition he/she will consider

the norm. Nursing is a science that helps with healing the client in many levels, such as spiritual,

physical, mental and social.

Ever since I was little , I have wanted to help others. Helping other people get to a better place

helps me get to my better place. I wanted to enter nursing because I felt it was something I could

be really become passionate about. My passion and desire to help others is something that moves

me and makes me feel like I have a purpose. After I have volunteered at a local hospital, I fell in

love with the work that nurses do. I learned to love the excitement, drama, and rush of the every

day life of a nurse. I loved the patients, the care, and the science behind it all. I felt for the

patients as their health declined, and I struggled to find ways to make their days a little bit better.

Through my experiences this past year, including my time spent in clinical, I have been reassured

that becoming a nurse is the right path for me.

Before entering into nursing, I had a misconception that nurses just took care of patients; got

them their medications, took their vital signs, and reported back to the doctor. However, I have

learned in a short period of time that there is much more to being a nurse than what meets the

eye. Nurses are sharp; they are quick on their feet and hold storages of information. Nurses must

always be present in the moment, while also thinking ten steps ahead.

Nursing is the practice of combining the science of medicine with the art of patient-

centered care. To be a nurse is to be conscious of these two roles, while finding a balance

between them. Like patients, all nurses are individuals and find their own ways of achieving this

balance.

Overall, it can be said that nursing is a profession that is far from simple. It is comprised of many

different parts and considerations, as well as different types of people. I would like to be a nurse

because I want to make a difference. Most importantly, I want to always hold onto my love for

my job and for my patients. Nursing is a career that can last a lifetime. In fact, nursing is more

than a career; it is a way of life that I would be grateful and proud to be apart of.
Becoming a registered nurse has brought so many impacts to my life . Being as such, I have been

able to make one of my dreams come true. It is also a great achievement for my family, because I

will be the first person in my immediate family to become a nurse. Id like to become that nurse

that makes a difference in the lives of the patients under my care. Id like to inspire other to

strive towards becoming nurses and understand that the field of nursing is one that commands

great respect and honor. Id like people to realize that a nurse is far more educated than the

public gives them credit for. That being a nurse is more than just cleaning after patients. Its

about caring for the sick, about educating the public, and about making a difference in someones

life, even if it means holding a patients hand. And becoming a registered nurse means that I can

proudly say that I do all those things.

Two years from now, I expect to that I have earned my Masters degree . Ultimately, Id like to

be financially secure enough to be able to take care of my mother and children and show my

gratitude for all the emotional and moral support that they have given me while I was in nursing

school.
