Discussion

As we know, this experiment title is Unconsolidated Undrained Triaxial test

(UUT), where it is including in different ways for conducted triaxial test
beside consolidated undrained test and consolidated drained test. Triaxial
test is more reliable method to determine the shear strength parameters of
soil. This method is usually used for research and conventional testing. This
method also suitable to do in laboratory because we can get the result just in
one day, meanwhile consolidated undrained test (CU) and consolidated
drained (CD) test have to take a few days and a few week to get result.

Cell pressure is applied in the chamber (represent as 3) by pressurizing the

cell fluid (water) where it is four different cell pressure applied in our
experiment, which are 50KN/m2, 100KN/m2, 150KN/m2, and 200KN/m2. The
axial load we can get at the proving ring and converted to the deviator stress
(represent as d).

The formula deviator stress is:

= P/A
Where,
P= the value of axial load
A= the area of sample

Based on the result axial deformation, we can get the value of axial strain
(represent as 1). The formula of axial strain is:
a=L/Lo
Where,
L = the different of length
Lo= the initial of length

The formula of corrected area is:

A= Ao/ (1- a)
Where,
Ao = the initial area.

The Mohrs circle graph can obtain based on the graph stress (Kpa) against
strain (%). As we know, the graph that we had presented is for cohesive soil
because the value of c which it is at y-intercept not equal to zero. Meanwhile,
if the value of C in y-intercept is equal to zero, we present it for non-cohesive
soil. We can look based on the figure 2.
Figure 2

Based on the Mohrs circle graph shear stress against normal stress, we can
know the value of cu and u.The actual graph is based on the figure 3 below.

Figure 3

But in our experiment, we did not get like this graph because of a few errors
in our experiment. An error that happened in our experiment is, the
apparatus that we used is different, the condition of apparatus also makes
we not get like the actual graph. To overcome this error is we had to make
that use the same apparatus for each group. Next, the error is the size of
every sample is not same to get the same Mohrs circle. To overcome this
experiment is just using the same size of sample to get more accurate.
