gold LEED certification this year from the U.S green building council, the first
platinum LEED certified green hotel in the united states. Opened in 2007, this
147 room luxury boutique hotel has over 5000 square feet (460 sq. mtr ) of
meeting and event space as well as a full service restaurant. The hotel utilized
more than 70 sustainable practices during construction and is a model for green
hotel construction. The proximity hotel is proof that a hotel can be very green
without sacrificing the comfort of its guests. The proximity uses 36.5% less
energy and 30% less water than a conventional hotel. It gets 60% of its hot
water from 100 solar thermal panels on the roof. The hotel also boasts the first
regenerative drive elevator, which recaptures energy as the elevator moves
down. The guest rooms take advantage of abundant natural lighting with large
energy efficient operable windows. The hotel has a green, vegetated rooftop on
the restaurant to reduce the urban heat island effect.
The green roof reflects the heat, thus reducing the amount of energy needed for
refrigeration and/or air conditioning. It also shows the rain runoff and insulates
the rooftop, keeping the building cooler overall. The hotel used building materials
with recycled content. Concrete contains4% fly ash, the mineral residue left after
the combustion of coal that is diverted from landfills. During construction they
resorted 700 linear feet of stream by reducing erosion, planting local, adaptable
plant species and rebuilding the buffers and banks. And 376 tons of boulders and
18 logs were used to maintain grade control, dissipate energy and assist in the
creation and maintenance of riffles and pools.
ARCHITECTURAL ANALYSIS:

characters a green , vegetated rooftop will be implanted on the restaurant to

reducing the amount of energy need for refrigeration/ or air conditioning. It also
slows the rain runoff and insulates the rooftop, keeping the building cooler
overall. The suns energy heats hot water with solar panels covering the 4000
square feet of rooftop (enough hot water for a hundred homes). This heats
around 60% of the water for both the hotel and the restaurant. The bistro bar is
made of salvaged, solid walnut trees that came down through sickness or storm
and room service trays made of plyboo (bamboo plywood)
Abundant natural lighting, including large energy efficient operable windows in
guest rooms , connects guests to the outdoors by achieving a direct line of
sunlight to the outdoor environment regularly occupied spaces. Bicycles are
available for guests to ride on the nearby five- mile greenway.
FINDING AND ANALYSIS:

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Integrating of natural process for the building sustainability for the project is the
best contribution of the case studied building. Using the natural assets like
greenery and vegetation adopted for the proponent proposed study. The
vegetation and greenery used as a insyulation of the heat come from the
sunlight and the passive or natural cooling.
Wise and well thought installation of windows with natural light controlled panel
material provide in the building design strategies.
