NEEDHAM ELEMENTARY ESSENTIAL AGREEMENTS

PROPOSED AGREEMENTS
AGREEMENT ON:

Learner The entire school community will model the I.B. profile attributes and attitudes and use them in their interaction with students.
Profile/Attitudes Learner profiles and attitudes will be posted in every room and taught explicitly.

International- Staff will actively make connections between local and global cultures while respecting others views, practices, and values.
mindedness
Students cultures and language will be supported, displayed, shared and respected in the classroom while involving family and community.

Portfolios are created, passed on from grade to grade, and shared by students at spring conferences.

Assessment
Formative and summative assessments will be developed based on desired outcomes from planners. We will adhere to the IB assessment criteria and
guidelines.

We will have school-wide PLC and staff meetings that focus on the International Baccalaureate- PYP. We will also set up collaborative PLC with
other IB schools.
Staff Communication New staff will receive induction at the beginning of the school year, and will be officially trained, as budget allows.
and Professional
Development We will have a designated area for teachers and support staff to share ideas and materials.

Professional development will be ongoing to support needs of all staff and mentoring new staff including but not limited to: Explain programming/
identification procedures, Site visits, Classes to develop IB skills

Program of Inquiry The Program of Inquiry (POI) will be posted on the Needham website and entryway with the Coordinator updating as appropriate.
& Planners
All teachers will have the following information: the POI, planners for the grade level, Colorado State Standards, timeline for teaching planners,
portfolio guidelines, and other pertinent PYP classroom information.

The POI will be reviewed/revised with the entire staff at the end of each school year.

Six units of inquiry will be completed each year at every grade level except for preschool, and 5th grade with exhibition replacing one unit of inquiry.
Units of inquiry will be based in Colorado State Standards
Grade level teams will meet weekly with the IB Coordinator to plan and reflect collaboratively. Specials teachers will be included and available. I.B.
collaboration times will be honored/respected and interrupted as little as possible.

Planners will be created collaboratively with grade level team and coordinator. Grade level team must come to a consensus upon all changes and
adjustments to units of inquiry. Vertical alignment will be addressed, during PLC and PD days.

Grade level teachers will follow planners consistently.

New teachers will teach existing planners with support from grade level team and Coordinator .
