Shelbi Giacalone

My goal as a teacher is to provide enriching activities so that

children are supported as they learn about their strengths and

work on their weaknesses. I believe that each child is a unique

individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating

atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally,

intellectually, physically, and socially.

It is my desire as an educator to help students show a

consistent pattern of growth in all developmental areas by

providing an environment that supports risk-taking and invites a

sharing of ideas. As an educator, I will support children as they

make discoveries about themselves and learn to recognize their

feelings.

I believe that as an early childhood facilitator I am

responsible for providing infants, toddlers and young children with

positive learning experiences. I strive to model respect, patience,

and care for children and adults I come in contact with. Children

have the right to have their needs met and receive the proper

education while in the care of their caregivers.

Philosophy of Education Reflection

I believe I have provided a safe environment in which

students feel like they are able to take risks without fear. I have

done this by discussing with the class the importance of

supporting our fellow classmates and guiding them to succeed. I

have also helped provide a stimulating atmosphere by exploring

students natural curiosity during a lesson by allowing them to

problem solve and work together to come to an answer during a

motion science lesson. During my observation and student

teaching time, I have also modeled patience and respect in the

classroom setting. This has been achieved by reviewing classroom

rules, manners, and expectations of how to treat others in the

classroom.

As I have made my way through my education in becoming

an early childhood educator, I have changed my philosophy a few

times. I believe this is because as I have learned of knew ways to

teach information along with knew knowledge of how the young

mind develops. While sitting in a kindergarten and first grade

classroom, participating in daily activities in an autistic resource

room, and student teaching in a second grade classroom, I have

had the opportunity to observe various classroom settings.

Though I think my philosophy should be continually changing

throughout my career as I better myself over time, I am confident

I have been able to practice my personal goals as a teacher and

feel as if the above philosophy is the most accurate portrayal of

my beliefs today.
