Face to Face Staff Development Reflection

Kayla Metheny

I chose to create my face to face staff development on the Web 2.0 tool Padlet based on

its multiple uses. After looking over the county technology plan, mission statement, and goals,

my site supervisor, Mrs. Sweatt, and I decided that the staff development needed to be on a web

2.0 tool that teachers and students could use interactively. I had previously used Padlet in some

of my Masters classes and I have implemented it into my classroom; therefore, I was familiar

with the tool and I knew that there were multiple ways in which the tool could be used. Looking

back over some of the previous professional developments from the county and the look fors in

lesson plan audits, formative evaluation of student learning was a reappearing topic. That was

when my idea for Padlet as a tool to collect formative evaluation data was created. Using Padlet

in my staff development as a tool for formative evaluation would give teachers a new and easy

way to collect data ,as well as, a tool that could be used in multiple ways rather than just

formative evaluation. I incorporated Padlets many uses into my staff development but kept the

focus on formative evaluation data collection.

I taught my face to face staff development at the monthly media specialists meeting

which was held at St. Marys Elementary School. My staff development was presented to media

specialists from all three school levels. I was very nervous before and at the beginning of the

staff development. I am use to standing in front of second grade students not adults when I am

teaching. After I began the presentation, I quickly fell into a comfortable state and felt in my

element as I do when I am teaching my second graders.

I created a website for my staff development originally as a guide for myself to use

during the presentation. The results of the formative evaluation survey showed that the learners

loved the website. They all thought that it was a very beneficial tool. The learners also said that

the website will be a tool that they can use when they redeliver the content to the teachers at their

school.

The results of the assessment and feedback from the evaluation survey showed that I was

successful in teaching the learners about Padlet. All of the learners were able to successfully

create an account for Padlet and create new Padlets for future use. The feedback also showed that

the instruction of the staff development was delivered smoothly. The learners did not feel rushed

or confused at any point during the staff development. All of the learners reported that their

knowledge of the web 2.0 Padlet increased as a result of the staff development. The majority of

the learners (90%) also reported that they are excited about incorporating this tool into their

future lessons.
