School Report
March 8, 2017

1. School Hours we anticipate no changes to school hours for 2017-2018.

2. Projections for 2017-2018 Each Spring schools are provided projections
for student population for the next school year. These projections help
schools make staffing and organizational decisions leading to a successful
first day of school. Staffing and organization continues through September to
adjust for population changes not reflected in the projections.

Current Enrollment for 2017-2018 106 148 106 87 83 530

The information above shows that our population is expected to grow at all grades.

3. Read-a-Thon -The Read-a-thon kicks off on Friday morning with a short
assembly and continues through early April. Watch for a package to come
home Friday. Also watch for Blog updates as the Read-a-thon takes off.

4. Parent Survey 84 people responded to the survey with a good cross
section from all grades. Overall parents were satisfied with the
Communication, School Culture and Community, Organization and Teaching
and Learning Environment. The vast majority of parents appreciated the
level of communication especially the classroom blogs. Celebrations of
Learning had high support as did the connection of the school to the
community including social action projects and the Warm Feet for the Street
Evening. There were a few comments around Report Cards, Conferences and
understanding assessment information. There were also a few comments
about the rationale of having conferences at different times than the report
cards. At the April School Council Meeting we will share our thinking and
seek more feedback from School Council around this topic.

5. New Brighton Resident Engagement Symposium On Saturday, March 18
a group of Grade 1 students will be presenting their thoughts, research and
conclusions to the New Brighton Residents Association helping the
community decide, What is the next best thing for New Brighton.

6. Adaptive Technology We will be sharing a brief demonstration and
overview of Speech to Text and Text to Speech applications that are used
to support some of the students at New Brighton School.
