Kansas City Composite Squadron
members participated in Ottawa's
Annual Parade honoring veterans of all
American wars. The parade comprised
of over 250 units. After the parade
there were reenactments, military dis-
plays setup in the park including military
booths, food and craft etc. "The Healing
Fields", honoring all Veterans with 700
flags are on display in the Park from
Opening Ceremony Friday 7 November
to closing ceremony on Nov 11th 6:30
PM. Union Soldiers in full period dress
were demonstrating the detailed routine
used to charge, fire, clean, and recharge
the weapon, the safety measures em-
ployed, resulting roar heard by both
sides of the American Civil War of the
1860s. Civil Air Patrol Cadet Jonathan
Richard James had the honor of firing an
authentic 1840’s smooth-bore 6 pound
brass cannon with a 10oz. charge black
powder blank charge (16-20oz normally
used with a projectile) at the Ottawa, KS
Veterans Day Celebration.

The Civil Air Patrol announces 2 new AE awards to be presented at Summer National Board and Conference in
2009 – The National Aerospace Education Officer of the Year award and the National Aerospace Educator of
the Year award will be presented at the CAP National Board this summer.
The Civil Air Patrol Aerospace Education Officer of the Year Award is a National-level award established to recognize
and reward any Civil Air Patrol member who is dedicated to promoting and teaching aerospace to the members of Civil
Air Patrol and to spreading the excitement of aerospace to their communities.
The Civil Air Patrol Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year Award is a National-level award established to
recognize and reward any Civil Air Patrol member who is a certified K-12 teacher for outstanding accomplishments in
promoting Aerospace Education in the classrooms of America.
