United Way of Greater Cleveland Changes Annual Meeting Date

Adjusting campaign schedule aligns with fiscal year
Cleveland (March 10, 2017) Today, at United Way of Greater Clevelands annual meeting,
which attracted a crowd of 1,100 people, United Way President and CEO August Napoli
announced a change to how the organization culminates the fundraising season.

The annual meeting which in recent years transitioned from a celebration of how much
money was raised to exemplifying the nonprofits impact in the community will again
undergo another change. Beginning in 2018, United Ways annual meeting will be held in
September instead of March.

For more than 20 years, United Way traditionally hosted our annual meeting in March after
a seven-month fundraising campaign, said Napoli. United Way is changing the way we
fundraise with new strategies; were looking beyond the workplace campaign and also
focusing on long-term, major, principal gifts which well pursue year round.

The date change, as Napoli explained in his annual meeting remarks, aligns the nonprofits
annual campaign and fundraising initiatives with the fiscal year which spans July 1 through
June 30. A September annual meeting will have a similar purpose of celebrating
Clevelands philanthropic spirit, informing the community on the impact of their gifts and
recognizing individual and corporate donors.

At todays annual meeting, Campaign Co-Chairs Heidi Gartland, vice president government
and community relations, University Hospitals and John MacIntosh, managing partner,
KPMG, announced the 2016-2017 campaign raised $40,274,176. The date change extends
their governance of the fundraising efforts through June 30, 2017. The 2017-2018
campaign begins July 1, 2017.

Adjustments to the campaign schedule will not impact United Ways allocations process
funding 128 health and human service programs to address education, financial stability,
health and basic needs.
