Agenda: March 9th-17th

Thursday March 9th-

Reading lab station with cloud in a jar experiment. The students will make a 3-page booklet as they
report their observations of the process. Discussion will be developed as they ask questions and
observe the experiment. Big jar with hot steaming water, a lid, topped with ice. once the ice is on top,
the rain and condensation forms down the side of the jar. They watch this develop and then write the
first step in their booklet, and so on. Key terms are: condensation, evaporation, rain, clouds, and
water. Objectives: understand water cycle and that water never goes completely away, understand
condensation, and hot temperature rising/cold falls.

In science, we will complete rainbow St. Patricks day project. A short video on Cat in the Hat:
Rainbows. Quick class verbal check for understanding that rainbows are created by sun in water.

Friday March 10th - Season Day

My favorite Season is prompt. Brainstorm all the things that come with certain seasons on the board
together. Then they free-write what their favorite season is and give a couple reasons why. From
there, they draw/illustrate the joys that they just wrote about. This activity, little did they know, was a
great formative assessment. We were helping them spell words as needed. We noticed quite a few
run-on sentences.

Monday March 11th - Cloud Day

Record the weather for today. (Meteorologist time!)
As a class: brainstorm all kinds of weather words (Sleet, clouds, Summer, Hurricane)
Read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Follow with: I dont want it to rain meatballs butI wish it
would rain blank worksheet

Objectives: students will be able to differentiate between certain kinds of clouds. Key terms: clouds,
cirrus, cumulus, stratus, alto clouds, and meteorologist.

Tuesday March 12th - Storm Day

Record the weather for today.


Weather prediction based on clouds. Present photos of certain clouds and brainstorm the type of
weather that will follow. Close this section by giving examples and results of certain types of storms or
weather.

Objectives: students will understand that clouds help us predict weather. Key terms: tornado, rain,
storm, and cloud terms.

Wednesday March 13th - Rainbow

Record the weather for today.

Short video on the formation of rainbows
Read Rainbow Fiction Story (tbd)
Objectives: students will understand how rainbows are formed, where to look, and the colors. Key
terms, prism, light-bending, water, rain, sunlight, rays.
