Pax Romana

This written paper will explain about Pax Romana; what is it?, who used it? and what
impacts do this have on economy and politic. Rome was a great civilization. It was a
powerful and important civilization, which was once ruled most of the Europe for nearly
1000. Most of the Western culture comes from ancient Rome. For example, in the area of
government, engineering, architecture, literature, etc. Rome has a large fertile land which is
very good for farming. Pax Romana or also known as Roman Peace was the period of
stability across the Roman Empire and relative peace which lasted about 200 years. It began
with the reign of Augustus (The first emperor) in 27 BCE - 14 CE. The aim of Augustus and his
successors was to confirm law, order, and security within the empire, even if this meant
separating it from the rest of the world and defending, or even expanding its borders
through military intervention and conquest. This is important because he turned Rome into
a better city of peace and prosperity. At first Rome was in the great depression just like
America.
I FOUND ROME A CITY OF BRICKS
AND LEFT IT A CITY OF MARBLE
- Augustus

There were many effects on each individual aspect. Firstly, let's talk about the
economic impacts of the Pax Romana. Roads were built connecting other countries with
Rome. This helped in trading and businesses. It was safe to travel and do trading because
there were roads such as the Appian Way and secure sea lanes. Also uniform system of
money was established, which enhanced the trading system. Roman culture had spread to
the Western Europe. Rome ruled in semi-civilized areas of Western Europe( Gaul, Britain
and Spain) and Augustus' establishment of peace during the Pax Romana meant that there
were Roman troops permanently stationed in the provinces. This helped the legionary
camps became permanent settlements, merchants, families, and other sorts of camp
followers settled down around them.

In today's world, the economic of the world is now better than in the ancient time.
There are much more links and roads, which connected different countries together. Not
only just the Western Europe, but all over the world. Also there are more vehicles or
transportations such as planes, cars and motorcycles. These make our life become easier.
People can travel to any place for business purpose and other personal purposes. Therefore,
business and trade system get expand into different parts of the world. People can now
move to another country to do their business or to form their company there. Just like,
Mcdonald and other brand companies that are originally from America or other countries;
they came from their home countries and started expanding their business in the other
countries, which can then make them more money and their company became famous.

Secondly, political effects of the Pax Romana. Rome developed the uniform system
of laws. This helped the civilization become more stable and safe as they have standard and
strict laws. Also it helped the civilization became more organized. Another impact was that
Rome created an imperial civil service to run day to day government operations. This is
important because it set standard and qualify the government officers. This made the
government became more trustful and had higher quality. The last impact was that the
Senate remains in an role and it is a place of status and wealth.

For the world today, this has become better. The laws are now getting more develop
and there are more laws being created. These make the laws become stricter and have
more quality than in the past. Also this can help keep the world safe and organize as there
are many laws and rules to help keep people in order.

In conclusion, Pax Romana had effect on both economy and politics. In economy, the
impacts were that roads were built to entrance trading. In politic, the impacts were that the
Roman develop laws and created civil service. In todays world, road and trade links were
still use to do trading and businesses, and if the business is going on well and our country
become wealthy and rich; we will then be able to live happily and we wont have to be
struggle like the other poorer country. For the laws, it is true that in todays world have
more laws and they are more develop than in the past, which makes the world safer.
However, in our opinion, we think there is more crime and criminal in todays world.
Although, the laws now are more develop, but people didnt seem to understand in them
and sometimes the laws arent being used strictly. We think these are all depends on each
person mind and how they thinks. Finally, in this unit we have learned about Pax Romana,
peace and how civilization is develop.
