Lesson Goals
Central Focus of Lesson:

Students will read or watch videos about myths and legends from Latin America.
Students will then be able to compare these newly learned myths to other myths and legends they may know in order to first, gain
cultural insights, and second, develop their own short story with visual representations.

Proficiency Stage 5 (Approximates ACTFL INTERMEDIATE-MID)

SL.PS5.IL.01 Demonstrate understanding of ideas and supporting details from longer and somewhat more complex conversations,
presentations and narratives on topics from everyday life.
SL.PS5.IL.02 Infer the meaning of some unfamiliar words and phrases when used in familiar contexts.

Lesson Objectives/Learning Objectives and Demands

Content Objectives:
Students will watch or listen to (using tech devices) videos (in Spanish), and read (in Spanish) the short myth/legend provided.
Students will write down new vocabulary words and their definitions to demonstrate learning and reading comprehension.
Students can work solo (or in small groups) and will be able to identify what countries these specific myths originate from.
Students can choose to discuss with one another and compare the myths they have read in Spanish to stories they may have heard or know
from United States or Europe.
Students will take short
Students will be able to use both old and new acquired vocabulary to make short story with short sentences and include original artwork.
(Artwork can be hand drawn, painted, or photos clipped from magazines.)

Introduction: What Teacher Will Do Introduction: What Students will do

Teacher will have agenda written on board and materials ready for students. Teacher will
greet students and take attendance.
Teacher will briefly talk about what the days task is going to be while distributing iPads and
laptops and headphones to students.
Teacher will instruct students not to touch the technology until everyone is clear on the
directions.
Students will greet teacher as they walk in. They will sit in
assigned seats during attendance and distribution of the
technology. Students can read the agenda as the teacher
walks around and ask questions

Main Learning Activities: What Teacher Will Do
Teacher will be available, walking around the classroom, helping those who may not
understand or have clarifying questions about the reading or listening material found on the
website under leccion interactiva.
Teacher may ask questions of students in order to help them understand or to check for
understanding.
Main Learning Activities: What Students will do
Students will (on their own or with no more than 3 people
per group) listen to and read myths/legends from teacher
website. Students can also choose to ask the teacher or
ask a peer(s) about their thoughts or clarifying questions
about what they have seen(heard) and read. Students
should make notes about new words, anything interesting
to them, or even questions they may have.
Students should (at 20 min mark) finish their last reading
or viewing of video, start to brainstorm and then begin

After about 20 minutes teacher will ask students to start wrapping up their reading so that the drawing and writing short sentences or phrases (in

Teacher will collect materials from students, and as the class cleans up commence a class
discussion (informal) about the activity.

Students can help in the clean up and the turning in of all
materials (electronic or otherwise). During clean up they
can share what they thought about the assignment,
engaging in a short class discussion.

Once the materials are collected and put away teacher will with the class play Quizlet
(matching) game as a way to refresh what they have learned about the origins of the stories
they read. (If need be students can play this on their own.)
Teacher will hand out (after Quizlet) Exit Slips for the students to fill out and complete on
their own. The exit slip will have new terms and a space for reflection and questions.
Students will participate in Quizlet activity by raising
hands to provide an answer.
Students will fill out the definitions, they can use notes but
cannot partner up with other peers for this part. Once they
are done they are to turn in the slips to teacher.

Students will get a paper with new vocabulary words but no definitions, students are to do their best to fill in definition of these words.
Students can use open notes if they need help, but cannot speak to other students.
Students can then use rest of space to share any final thoughts or questions that they may still have.
