COMPARATIVE DEGREE (ADJECTIVE)

Comparative Degree is used to make a comparison between two things.

Forming Comparative Degree:


To be + Adjective + -ER + Than OR To be + More + Adjective + Than

There are some rules to make comparative form:

1. The adjective which consist of one-syllable, add -ER in the end of the word.
Examples: Tall Taller
Old Older
Long Longer
2. The adjective which consist of one-syllable with final -E, just add -R in the end of word.
Examples: Large Larger
Wise Wiser
3. The adjective which consist of one-syllable ends with a single consonant with a vowel before it
(Consonant Vowel Consonant), double the consonant and add ER in the of word.
Examples: Big Bigger
Thin Thinner
Fat Fatter
4. The adjective which ending with Y, change the y to i and add ER in the end of word.
Examples: Happy Happier
Angry Angrier
Busy Busier
5. The adjective which consist of two-syllables or more, just add MORE in front of the word.
Examples: Careful More Careful
Beautiful More Beautiful
Difficult More Difficult
