2 2010 SUCCESS STORIES CAMERA APRIL 2010

SUCCESS can be defined in many ways. Ask 10 people what it means to them
and youll probably get 10 different answers.
To some, success is determined by a companys size or profits. But when you ask business
owners about their success, you rarely hear them talk about those things.
There are many variables to consider when gauging success, such as: achieving personal growth;
realizing a dream; having pride in doing something you love; building a business from the ground
up; being honest and truthful, and environmentally conscientious; and seeing your ideas and hard
work come to fruition. Many would also agree that having the right attitude is a necessary ingredient
in the recipe for success.
Success doesnt just happen. It requires time, talent and determination. And its not the
culmination of hard work ending at a finish line. Its an ongoing journey that requires continuous
attention by a company or organizations dedicated, hard-working staff. Its more like a neverending
marathon, because even if success is acquired, it must be maintained.
A successful company or organization is proud of and stands behind its product or service, as
well as its employees. It offers great customer service and it contributes to the community. In return,
it receives admiration and respect from its clients and the community.
Boulder and Broomfield counties are filled with many thriving companies and organizations
that have succeeded for many years. Read about many of them on the following pages.

S ince 1981 owners Gary and Debbie Chambers of Super Rupair, Inc., have

Our niche is Subaru Only, and our customers are the ultimate reason
for our success, Gary asserts. Our customers have made us the largest

We are reliable and the best in our industry in Boulder.

A spen Eyewear is family-owned and locally operated. Heinz Ebner and his
wife started the business almost a quarter-century ago with a big challenge.

cars that I rebuilt from a junkyard, and borrowed money from my in-laws.
But it has paid off. Our longevity in Boulder has kept people coming in
our door. We are reliable and the best in our industry in Boulder, as
exemplified by our numerous awards. Our goal has always been to help
people SEE. That is why we use only premium products and the newest
technology for the highest quality prescription eyewear. Having the only

assuring your lenses are finished to perfection.
What is Aspen Eyewears competitive advantage? Our customer service
goes above and beyond. Being family owned, our store has a very pleasant
atmosphere. Our customers feel more like family. Two of Ebners daughters,
both Certified Opticians, are now in the business, too.
We carry dozens of the highest quality brands available and have
thousands of frames in stock, so you get the very best value possible. We also
stay current with the latest in progressive lenses.

Since 1986 well be seeing you.

Its fair to measure success in terms of the challenges that have been
overcome. In 1988, when I opened my first wood flooring business, I was
coming into a market where I was unknown and I was competing against
established businesses, Harrison recalls. But my experience as an

A longtime dedicated runner, Harrison sees parallels between his
competitive running and running a successful business. Every trail is
different, and understanding the course is key to an excellent run. Similarly,
Harrison says, no two floors are exactly alike. This makes planning the

Entrust New Direction IRA, Inc.
Our motivation comes from spreading the word that
securities are not the only game in town for IRAs.

H eres a new direction for IRA and 401k investing: expand and diversify your
portfolio with real estate, private stock, gold, LLCs, lending and more. Catherine
Wynne and Bill Humphrey started offering self-directed retirement plan services when
they sat down and read the IRS code on IRA investments, and now offer clients access
to these unique diversification opportunities.
Real estate had been a successful investment for them in the past, but they
were told their retirement plans (IRAs) could only buy securities, not real estate.
Our stock broker/financial advisors said that this couldnt be done, so we started
researching why only securities were purchased in IRAs. That research opened the
door for them to untapped investment possibilities, and they started their business.
The biggest challenge in our business was overcoming the security industry
momentum with IRAs only being invested in stocks. Our company is unique
because we provide education and guidance through sometimes complex
transactions. Entrust New Direction IRA has made client education a top priority
through classes, articles, and presentations.
Their business has grown continuously in spite of the troubled economy.
