Mission Statement:

Jazz Theatre of Illinois was established to enhance the training of aspiring dancers. Our purpose is
to provide company members with opportunities to perform and cultivate personal growth. JTI is
committed to encouraging aspiring dancers to reach their fullest potential by focusing on strong tech-
nique as well as challenging them with different styles and disciplines.

Parent & Dancer Meeting: April 30th, 2:30pm

We STRONGLY suggest everyone attend, even if you have been a company member in the past.

Audition Information:
Saturday April 30th, 3:00-5:00pm
Audition Fee:$10, non-refundable cash or check made payable to Ballet Theatre of Illinois
Please arrive 30 minutes early to register and attend the meeting.
Dancers will be given Ballet barre, and then work center combinations and progressions.

Audition Requirements:
Dancers must be 12years by September 1, 2016.
(Training Company auditions for dancers 11yrs+ are held in the fall)
No specific studio affiliation required.
This is for Intermediate and Advanced dancers with strong Ballet and Jazz training.

Company Class Requirements:

Jazz Theatre

-Summer Class:1 Ballet, and 1 selected from Jazz, Hip Hop, Leaps and Turns, or Lyrical.
Dancers are also required to take Conditioning for Dancers at Dance Academy.
Total of 6 weeks of class required. Other dance programs count towards attendance,
as do Jazz and Ballet Workshops, and Maintenance classes.

-Fall Class: 2 Ballet class, 2 classes selected from- Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Lyrical
80% attendance in ALL CLASSES REGISTERED FOR

Jazz Theatre II

-Summer Class: 1 Ballet, and 1 selected from Jazz, Hip Hop, Leaps and Turns, or Lyrical.

JAZZ/CONTEMPORARY INTENSIVE, July 27, 28, 29

This is not mandatory. However, it is strongly recommended for company members. Three of the choreographers
setting pieces this year will be teaching. Plus it is excellent exposure to nationally renowned artists conveniently
located in Libertyville!

Why Summer Class?

Competitive athletes detrain quicker than recreational athletes because of their higher overall
fitness levels. Competitive athletes can experience muscle atrophy after as little as two weeks of inactivity.

Tuition and Fees:

$400- Non-refundable, covers choreographers, rehearsals, administration, and costumes.
Paid in full by August 20, 2016. Tuition may be paid in installments May-August.

Members are responsible for selling 8 tickets to MOVE.
Members are also required to participate in our poinsettia fundraiser in November.
JTI Gear and merchandise will be available to purchase in the fall. It is not mandatory or required.

Parent Volunteer Requirements:

Parents must sign up for one performance weekend position.
If you have a special skill or talent and would like to volunteer to help in other wayssewing, PR, poster distri-
bution etc., wed love to hear from you!
 SEASON REHEARSAL INFORMATION

Jazz Theatre and Jazz Theatre II

Choreography Rehearsals: Choreography will be set the weekends of August 21st & 27th.

Regular Rehearsals: Begin September 10th, Saturdays 2:30-5:30m-November 19th.

Dancers are allowed 2 absences from regular rehearsals.

Regarding Absences: Because dance is a participatory activity that is dependent on the group
working together, dancers may be removed from sections of a piece or entire pieces depending where
they are in the rehearsal process.

Pick Up Rehearsals: As more performance opportunities arise we will schedule pick-up rehearsals.
We try to accommodate everyones schedule as best we can in scheduling these. If dancer can not
attend a pickup prior to performance dancer can be pulled out for that performance. Dancers are not
penalized if they can not attend performances that arise once the season is running.

A word from the Directors:

In the 3 short years that Jazz Theatre of Illinois has existed, we have built a well respected
reputation not only in our area, but also in the professional dance community at large. We
credit our growth and reputation to our dancers work ethic, level of professionalism in
rehearsals, their technical dance ability, and their commitment to excellence. Our dancers
are role models in and out of the classroom, and are constantly working to improve their
technical skills and performance abilities. We are honored to work with such a talented and
dedicated group of dancers and are excited to see what the 4th season of Jazz Theatre of
Illinois will bring.

We encourage any young artist with a love for dance and performing to audition for Jazz
Theatre of Illinois. It is a wonderful company and a fantastic experience!

Training company auditions for intermediate dancers ages 11years+

will be held September 2016. If a dancer is placed in the training
company from the May 2nd auditions, they do not have to attend
the September audition and they will not have summer class
requirements.
