Culture is the aspects that represent different ethnic groups and/or different group of people. The
aspects are the moral value, food, clothing, music, art, religion, and human intellectual achievements.

a. According to the article, what are 2 definitions of culture?


For people it refers to the appreciation of good literature, music, art and food. For biologist
it refers to the colonization of bacteria and/or microorganisms that grow in a nutrient
medium in a petri dish.
b. What are the 3 layers of culture?
The three layers of culture is body cultural traditions, subculture, and culture universals

c. What is a subculture?
In complex, diverse societies in which people have come from many different parts of the
world, they often retain much of their original cultural traditions

d. List the cultural universals.


Cultural Universals are:
Verbal language
Age and gender to classify people
Raising a child in a some type of family setting
Gender division in the work field
Privacy
Rules that prohibit sexual behavior
Distinction between good and bad behavior
Art and games
Having different forms of Art
Forms of leadership and power

e. What is the difference between culture and society?


Culture is the mix of behavior and perception of a group of people and society is the
interaction between the groups.

3. Define the term stereotype.

Predetermined judgements on a person, place, and/or thing based on the previous interaction
between like subjects.

a. What are some different categories of stereotypes?


The different categories of stereotypes are : Gender, Race, Sexual Orientation, Religion, and
Physical capabilities.
b. What is one of the stereotypes youve heard of that is listed in the 1992 gender study?
The stereotype that Ive heard is that women are sentimental as well as submissive.

c. Why is mass media considered significant to stereotyping?


It influences the masses. Judgement is based on the information that they choose to
provide and show to their audience.

d. Why are stereotypes functional?


As an audience, we receive more information than can be processed. We simplify the
information that we receive, and sometimes causes the wrong judgements to be placed and
a wrong truth to be placed in our brain.

e. What is the most influential factor in stereotyping? Why?


Prejudice is the most influential stereotyping factor and we as people always keep the
negative experience/descriptions of particular groups of people. We are selective to what we
want to hear and see,

5. Define family dynamics.


The way in which each member of the family interacts with one another.

My family dynamic is the role of always being the protector and the problem solver
