CHAPTER 5

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION

5.1 Introduction

This chapter explain the discussion and conclusion of this project in details. The project will
be implemented Pico Hydropower System. The main goal of this project is to produce
electricity to rural area people.

We are given time for 5 months working on this project during the final semester. We have
planning in terms of time and capital to implement this project later. Work and time has been
distributed to each member of the group to carry out this project. The work like the collection
and analysis of data, discussions with supervisors, looking for material, making flow of
project, the entire installation, test and repair as well as research projects.

5.2 Total Material Costs

5.3 Conclusion

Hydropower is the cheapest way to generate electricity today. No other energy source,
renewable or non-renewable, can match it. Producing electricity from 64 hydropower is
cheap because, the energy source are from flowing water and it is free. Hydropower does not

54
present an environmental problems because Hydropower doesn't pollute the air and
Hydroelectricity generates electricity by harnessing the gravitational force of falling water.

Our product are easy to be install and the cost to install the product is affordable. Our
product is portable. Furthermore our product are eco friendly because it does not pollute the
air or water and air emissions are negligible because there are no fuels burned. Our product
has managed to be use as backup power supply in the house system. The cooperation from
team members is crucial to finish this project. This is proven when our project for "Pico
Hydropower System" managed to be finished on time and work perfectly as wanted.

Through this project it can be said that in designing particular project we needs to :-

i) Fully understand the function of the design

ii) Knowing all the parts and components before welding or installation.

iii) Test run the components or parts to ensure it can be used. In a nutshell, it can be said that
our project complies on our scope of studies and work according to what had been planned.
Apart from that, from this project, group members believe that this project could bring
benefits to the younger students to open their minds and think critically and creatively.

Thus lead them to identify the potential and ability of a system. Lastly not forgetting my
team members and lecturer which play major for the success of this project.

The table 5.2 shows comparison of project data. This table elaborate output and size for
between pico and both case studies. In case study 1, their output was 1.1kW and size 9 feet
while in case study 2, shows output was 5kW and size 8 feet. In our project, the output is
0.5kW and its size 3.5 feet.

5.4 Recommendation

56
Through the study and testing that had been carried out, still there are some lack of strength
which can be improved in order to increase the productivity and quality of this product. There
a few steps that can be taken to implement the recommendation:-

i) Installation less weight of pelton wheel make increase the voltage produced.

ii) Use a higher pressure water pump to increase higher voltage of current.

iii) Use thicker steel for the project to increase the stability and the strength.

iv) Use higher capacity of battery storage.
