What is calculus?

Calculus is the study of how things change.


provides framework for modeling systems which change
a way to deduce the predictions of such models
calculus originates from describing basic physics
motion of planets and molecules
behavior of dynamical systems
tools: curves, functions
quantities: rate of change, area, volume
culmination of centuries of work
