Barabbas:

Abruptly interrupts the preceding monologue.

Everyone is talking about their encounter, their moment, their life changing
experience, BUT I was guilty, well, I am guilty. Im a murderer (nervous
chuckle), I deserved to die. You see, all the evidence was there, I had no case
and no one was fighting for me.

That man, Jesus, the messiah, the one youre all talking about. He took my
place.

(what do you mean? a townsperson).

Oh, come on, I know you remember!! He and I both stood before the people
awaiting our death sentence. He couldve pleaded his case but in actuality,
he was innocent. Ohhh the crowd, the crowd yelled and chanted for ME to
die. As a matter of fact (looks around at the crowd), some of yall were
shouting kill him, give us Barabbas (prolongs looking around as if
hes in shock).
Even Pilate was confused, because I was guilty. My sins were front and
center.

You know, its sad when even your own people wont fight for you.
Sometimes the same people that defend your name one day, are the same
people that forget your name when you need them.

(In a demonstrative tone) Where was grace and mercy from my friends
and family? Where was the love that we sing and preach about? Where was
the compassion? Instead, all I heard was kill him murderer get on with
it, give us Barabbas.

(Relives that moment in his head and shows it feverishly on his face
and with his body)

Just when I thought it was over. Just when I saw my life flash before my eyes
and all the wrong that I had done was staring me in the face, the innocent
one, bore the punishment I deserved.

(acappela)

So I thank you Jesus

For taking my place
For letting me live when I was doomed for death

But you saved my life,

Right in the nick of time

By trading places with me

You gave your life for mine

Just for me
Just for me
Jesus came and did it just for me

Just for me
Just for me
Jesus came and did it just for me
