    ZESZYTY NAUKOWE UNIWERSYTETU JAGIELLONSKIEGO Nox PRAGE ARCHEOLOGICANE + Z 31 oa Studies in Ancient Art and Ci ation, 2 (1992) Joachim Sliwa Cracow AN UNPUBLISHED STAMPED BRICK OF MENKHEPERRE, HIGH PRIEST OF AMUN In the Czartoryski collection (presently the department of the National ‘Museum in Cracow), renowned for its interesting Egyptian gallery, recently systematically described and published, there is also an ordinary brick bearing @ stamp impression (Fig. 1) This stamp enables us to ascertain, that the said brick comes from the structure erected by Menkheperre, one of the High Priests of Amun in Thebes in the times of the 2ist Dynasty: 1. Mnchpr-R° 2. hm-nir tpj n Jmn. His name and title are arranged here in regular, typical cartouches, situated vertically one next to the other (Fig. 1) and delimited at the bottom by horizontal crossbar. The stamp had been impres- sed in the wet clay before firing; it was a single double stamp. CL, among others, the following specification: J. Sliwa, Egyptian Scarabs, Scarabolds and Plagues from the Cracow Collections, Prave archeologicme 38, Studia 2 Archeologii Srddziem rnomorskiej 8 Cracow 1985, pp. 1112 (note 21), and some items published there, * Inv. No. MNK XI--987. Dimensions 34.8 x 1829.3 cm (height of the cartouches 16.7 m), Fired mud with much organic admixtures; colour after firing: greyish-ted.
