Character Analysis Planning Sheet

Goal Students will write a 5 paragraph essay analyzing a character from a book or
story using the following prompts:

Setting: Where does the story take place?

Appearance: What does the character look like?

Personality: How would you describe the characters personality (funny, shy,

Insights

Thoughts: What are the characters most important thoughts? Use text examples for
support.

Feelings: What are the characters most important feelings? Use text examples for
support.

Development

Problem: What is the characters problem at the beginning of the story?

Goal: What does the character want to happen by the end of the story?

Outcome: How does the end of the story affect the character? Use text examples for
support.

Statements and Actions

Statements: What is the most important or memorable thing the character says?
Use text examples for support.

Actions: What is the characters most important action? Use text examples for
support.
Interactions: How does the character get along with other characters? Use text
examples for support.

My Impressions

Like: What do you like most about this character? Use text examples for support.

Dislike: What do you dislike most about this character? Use text examples for
support.

Personal connection: Whom does this character remind you of and why? Connect to
self/life
