Week 9
Ive learned that there are two kinds of population. The infinite and finite population. Infinite
population is uncountable and it is a hypothetically population while the finite population
contains fixed number or it is countable. Ive also learned about The Central Limit Theorem. This
is when the sample size becomes larger; the sampling distribution of the mean becomes normal
distribution. Then, I also learned how to solve the z-score. There are two formulas. If there is
only one sample: z = (x ) / then if there are multiple samples: z = (x ) / ( / n)
Example 1:
The average time that athletes of St. Paul University Manila can complete a run in a stadium is
30 minutes. The standard deviation is 5 minutes. Assume that the variable is normally
distributed.
a. If a selected athlete in St. Paul, what is the probability that the time to complete a run will
be less than in 27 minutes?
First, understand the problem very well. As we can see, the sample is only individual so,
we will use the formula z = (x ) / .
-4 -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4
Therefore, the probability that a selected athlete in St. Paul will complete the run in
less than 27 minutes is 0.2743 or 27.43%
b. If 20 selected athletes in St. Paul will run in a stadium, what is the probability that the
mean time will they take to complete a run will be less than 27 minutes?
First, understand the problem very well. As we can see, we have data about the sample
means so, we will use the formula z = (xx ) / ( / n).
-4 -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4
Therefore, the probability that 20 selected athlete in St. Paul will complete the run
in less than 27 minutes is 0.0037 or .37%
I was able to understand the entire lesson this week. I feel so happy because I understand it so
well. The topic this week went smoothly for me.
Also, it can be applied in to real life like when we are trying to get the probability of a certain
sample. For example, we are trying to get the number of students who came from public school
before going to St. Paul University Manila with a certain standard deviation.
So far, I do not have any questions regarding the entire lesson because I got it all in my mind.
