Definition of Wind

Wind is moving air caused by the rotation of the earth and also because of
differences in air pressure around it. Wind moves from areas of high pressure to
low air pressure. Wind is moving air caused by the rotation of the earth and also
because of differences in air pressure around it. Wind moves from areas of high
pressure to low air pressure.
When heated, the air expands. Air which has been expanding into a lighter so it
rises. When this occurs, the air pressure dropped because they reduced the air.
Cold air flowing into the surrounding low pressure earlier. The air becomes
heavier and shrinks down to the ground. On the ground the air became hot again
and go back up. The flow of hot air rising and falling of the cold air is be named
convection.

Process of Wind
The wind is due to the difference in air pressure or temperature differences in the
air in an area or region. This relates to the amount of solar thermal energy
received by the earth's surface. In a region, an area that receives greater solar
energy will have more hot air temperature and air pressure tends to be lower. So it
will happen and the temperature difference between the air pressure areas that
receive greater heat energy to other areas receive less heat energy, the result would
be the flow of air in the region.
Wind has a close relationship with the sun as much exposed daerahyang sun
exposure will have higher temperatures and lower air pressure than other areas,
thus causing air flow. Wind can also be caused by the movement of objects that
push the air around it to move to another place. Artificial wind can be created
using a variety of tools ranging from simple to complex. In simple terms we can
wind created with palms, fan satay, newspapers, magazines, and so forth in a way
shaken. While the wind can be complicated we make the electric fan, hand dryer,
hair dryer, tire pump, and so forth. Naturally we can use the mouth, nose, anus,
and so on to create the wind.
The air may carry odor particles of a substance so that the wind can bring the
scent from the savory scent to scent is not pleasant in our noses. The smell of
food, the stench, the smell of the sea, the smell of garbage, the smell of gasoline,
gas odor, the smell of farts, feces odor, etc. are some examples of odors that can
be carried by the wind.

Wind Gauge
1. Equipment wind gauges are:
Anemometer, is a tool that measures wind speed.

Wind vane, which is a tool to determine wind direction.

Windsock, which is a tool to determine the wind direction and the wind
speed estimates. Usually found at the airport - the airport.
Types of Wind
1. Types of Local Wind
a. Sea wind

The sea breeze is a wind that blows from the sea towards the land
which generally occur during the day from 09.00 until 16.00. The wind
is usually exploited by fishermen to return from fishing in the sea.

b. Onshore wind

Onshore wind is the wind that blows from the sea towards the land
which generally occur during the night from 20:00 hours to 06:00
hours. The wind kind is beneficial for the fishermen to go fishing with
a simple wind-powered boat.

c. Valley winds

Valley wind is the wind that blows from the valley to the top of the
mountain which is common during the day.
d. Wind mountain
Wind Mountain is a wind that blows from mountain top to mountain
valleys that occur at night.

e. Hurricane / quail

Also commonly known as a waterspout, which is a strong wind

coming arrived - arrived, having the center, moving in a circle like a
spiral to reach the earth's surface and become extinct in a short time (3-
5 minutes). Average wind speed - means are ranging between 30-40
knots. These winds come from Cumulonimbus clouds (Cb) is the gray
clouds gather - dark gray and towering. However, not all cause
Cumulonimbus clouds tornado. Tornado can happen anywhere, on land
or at sea, and in the event of longer duration at sea than on land. These
winds are more common in the afternoon or evening, sometimes at
night and are more common in the transitional season (transition). The
total area affected about 5-10 miles, because it is very local.

Types of Wind Season

1. Foehn wind

Foehn wind / wind fall is the wind that occurs after orographic rain. the
wind is blowing in a region with different temperature and humidity.
Foehn wind occurs because there is no movement of air masses rise
high mountains over 200 meters on one side and down the other side.
Foehn wind that fell from the top of the mountain is hot and dry,
because water vapor has been discharged at the time of orographic
rain.
Usually this is a hot wind damage and can cause casualties. Plants
exposed to wind may die and humans are exposed to these winds could
down against body resistance to disease.

1. Wind Munsoon

Wind Munsoon, Moonsun, monsoon winds are periodically (at least 3

months) and the period of each other opposite the pattern will change
in the opposite direction every half a year. Generally in the first half of
onshore wind is blowing dry the next year and a half wet sea breeze
blowing.
2. Season the West Wind

Season Wind West / West Monsoon wind is the wind that flows from
the continent of Asia (winter) to the Australian continent (summer) and
contain a lot of rainfall in the western part of Indonesia, this was due to
the wind passing through extensive areas, such as water and ocean .
Examples of ocean waters and is passed the South China Sea and the
Indian Ocean. Wind West season led to Indonesia to experience the
rainy season.
These winds occur in December, January and February, and a
maximum in January with a minimum speed of 3 m / s.

3. Monsoon East

Monsoon East / East Monsoon wind is the wind that flows from the
continent of Australia (winter) to the continent of Asia (summer) little
precipitation (drought) in the eastern part of Indonesia because of the
wind passing through narrow gaps and a variety of deserts (Gibson,
Great Australian and Victoria). This is why Indonesia is experiencing
drought. Occurred in June, July and August, and a maximum in July.
4. Wind Passat

Passat wind is blowing wind throughout the year from subtropical

regions toward the equator (the equator). Consisting of Northeast wind
blowing Passat in the Northern Hemisphere and Southeast Passat wind
blowing in the Southern Hemisphere.
In the vicinity of the equator, the wind Passat met. Because the
temperature in the tropics is always high, the air mass is forced to rise
vertically (convection). The second meeting of the Regional Passat
winds are called the Inter-Tropical Convergence Regions (DKAT).
DKAT always characterized by high temperatures. As a result of this
air mass increases, DKAT region free from hurricanes. As a result, this
area is called area doldrum (quiet area).

5. Wind Anti Passat

The air flowing over the equator to the poles and down in the area is a subtropical
maximum winds Anti Passat. In the Northern hemisphere called Wind Anti Passat
Southwestern and Southern Hemisphere called the Anti Passat Northwest Wind.
In the area around latitude 20o - 30o N and LS, anti Passat winds back down
vertically as the dry wind. The dry winds absorb moisture in the air and land
surface. As a result, formed the desert on earth, such as the desert in Saudi Arabia,
the Sahara Desert (Africa), and the desert in Australia.
Because of the pressure gradient, the wind will always blow from a place that has
high air pressure to places with low air pressure. Causing moderate winds blowing
from Latitude to the Equator.
