Social Lesson Plan #7- Creating the Neighborhood.
LESSON PLAN OBJECTIVES - Students will: (within this lesson)

By the end of the assignment...


The students will create connections between individuals, groups, and
communities.
The students will identify areas of their lives that connect them to different
individuals, groups, and communities.
The students will apply their knowledge of community characteristics to
analyze the community that they are a part of.
The students will demonstrate an understanding of individuality and how
everyone is different in their own right.

By the end of the lesson...


The students will identify integral parts of their community and the role
they play.
The students will create visual representations of their own house and
neighborhood.
The students will demonstrate an understanding of their community, how
they contribute to it, and other integral parts of it.

Pre-emptive Tasks for Teacher

Teacher will prepare materials prior to lesson.


Teacher will prepare discussion points prior to lesson.
Teacher will create an example house prior to lesson.
Teacher will ensure a secure place is prepared for the placement of the
houses.

PROCEDURE

Introduction (7 min.)

Welcome the students and gather their attention.


Reconfirm with the students the project that we are embarking on.
The teacher will show their exemplar paper bag house to the students.
Transition into the body.

Body (60 min.)

Learning Activity #1: (30 minutes)


The teacher will explain that the class will do the first steps together and
then break off to do individual houses. The teacher will demonstrate how
they cut out pieces of construction paper and glued them on to create the
house.
The students will then be given time to create and design their houses by
using the pieces of scrap paper.
Once students start to finish their houses they can place them in the
designated bin with their names on them and then find a place to read in
the class room.
Brain Break #1: (8 minutes)

Learning Activity #1: (25 minutes)
The teacher will have the students return to their seats and then hand out
the my world worksheet.
The students will be given the rest of the period to work on the worksheet
and add as many ideas as possible to the sheets.
The emphasis on the lesson will be to write down as many thoughts about
that section that the student can come up with in order to make a go-to list
for them in the future.
The lists will be compiled in the students workbooks for future assessment.

Closure (5 min.)

Have the students clean up the materials and prepare for lunch dismissal.
