HISTORY OF ECOCAT

Introduction:-
Ecocat is one of the Worlds leading developers and manufacturers of exhaust emission
control catalysts and systems for passenger cars, light and heavy commercial vehicles,
off-road equipment and stationary engines.

Active networking and advanced logistic efficiency combine Ecocat's global skills with
irreplaceable local knowledge. Clear global strategies, resourceful and committed staff
and well-organised operations add value to all Ecocat stakeholders.

1985
A metallic three-way catalyst for the control of emissions is developed in co-operation
with Oulu R&D center and the Vihtavuori group, belonging to the Finnish government-
owned chemicals group Kemira. In 1986 in Oulu, a pilot factory starts pre-production and
testing of the production technology. In 1987, Kemira builds a catalytic converter factory
in Vihtavuori, Laukaa. The company invests extensively in R&D. Test production in the
new factory starts in 1988 and the catalyst unit is strengthened by company purchases and
establishment of a sales company in the German Federal Republic.

Besides 3-way, diesel oxidation, diesel filtration, urea hydrolysis, SCR, CNG and bi-fuel
concepts, Ecocat has developed its coating solutions for different volatile organic
compounds (VOCs). Ecocat's substrate selection includes conventional straight-channel,
turbulence, mixer and partial filter types. Substrates are designed and manufactured in
different sizes, shapes and cell densities from two wheelers to cars and heavy-duty
applications as well as solutions for large stationary engines

Ecocats metallic matrix substrates offer superior properties in back pressure, weight,
packaging size/shape flexibility and low volume advantage. With metallic substrates it
has been possible to utilize inter-channel communication in order to equalize flow and
heat distribution, improve mass and heat transfer and trap diesel particulates.
Industry / VOC

Whether the target is a large power station or a small CHP (combined heat and power)
unit, Ecocat OFC (open foil coated) is a powerful and cost effective option where size
can be adjusted to be as or small as the customer needs

The EcoCat substrate is the option to use on small to mid size applications.,large.
Our EcoXcell substrate featuring a welded structure is the right product for applications
where mechanical durability targets are set high as they are for example on gas
compression engines.

Passenger and Light Commercial Vehicles

Gasoline, CNG/LPG and bi-fuel catalysts are based on metallic or ceramic carrier
substrates and specifically selected washcoat and precious metals combination
Diesel Oxidation Catalysts (DOC) are available in a variety of substrate types and
shapes including metallic round, doughnut, race track, rectangle and ceramic models.
Particle Oxidation Catalyst (POC) is an open filter designed to trap and oxidize
particulates emanating from the combustion of diesel.

Heavy Commercial Vehicles

Diesel Oxidation Catalysts are available in a variety of substrate types and shapes

Particle Oxidation Catalyst (POC) is an open filter designed to trap and oxidize
particulates emanating from the combustion of diesel.
Catalyzed Diesel Particulate Filters (EcoFilt) are used when particulate conversion
target exceeds 70%. Ecocat has developed a specially thin washcoat for the coating of
Corderite and Silicon Carbide based filters without adding a contribution to backpressure
or limiting the porosity of the filter.
For SCR applications Ecocat uses 4th generation Vanadium based technology that
provides wide temperature window.

Ecocats Hydrolysis Catalyst (HyCat) has found a place on off-road applications

helping improve the ammonia formation on SCR lines by enhancing the reactions taking
place during the early stages of thermolysis and hydrolysis

CONCEPT OF LABOR WELFARE

Labor welfare is an important tool of industrial relation, the extra dimension, giving
satisfaction to the employees in the way, which even a good wage cannot. With the
growth of Industrialization and mechanization, it has acquired added importance. The
worker both in industry and in agriculture cannot cope with the pace of modern life with
minimum substance amenities. He needs an added stimulus to keep body and soul
together like better pay, better working condition.

However the concept of labor welfare is flexible and elastic and differs widely with time,
region, industry and social values and customers, degree of industrialization, the general
socio economic development of people an prevailing at a particular time, the political
ideologies.

DEFINITION
According to labor welfare committee,
Anything done for intellectual, physical, moral and betterment of workers, whether by
employers, by government or by other agencies, over and above what is laid down by
law or what is normally expected by the contractual benefits for which workers may have
bargained.
According to international labor welfare
Such services, facilities and amenities as may be established in or in the vicinity of
undertakings to enable the person employed in them to perform their work in healthy,
congenial surrounding and provided with amenities conducive to good health and high
morale.
OBJECTIVES

Today labor welfare program have be come very popular and important because it gives
extra satisfaction to the workers in the way , which even a good wage cannot. With the
growth of industrialization and mechanization the importance of welfare has been
increased. Employers have to realized the importance of welfare measures because it
contribute indirectly to the efficiency of productivity and building morale and reduction
in absenteeism and labor turnover.

Here, in this training the main objectives as under:-

If the various facilities, services and amenities are provided to workers for improving
their health, efficiency, economic betterment and social status.

Whether labor welfare measures are flexible enough to adapt to the new
requirements of the changing era.

How the labor welfare brings out the development of the whole personality of the
worker to make him a good citizen and good worker.

Whether the worker are really satisfied with the facilities being provided to them.
Whether the welfare facilities are able to relieve workers from industrial fatigue.

Whether the worker are being groomed in terms of intellectual, cultural and
material conditions.

To check whether the facilities are provided to worker or not.

To know whether the worker are satisfied with the facility or not .

To study the welfare facilities.

To know do they want any facility or not.

NEED FOR SAFETY & WELFARE

MEASURES
COST SAVING:

Two types of cost are incurred by the management when an accidents occurs. these
are direct cost, in form of compensation payable to the dependants of the victims if
the accident is total and medical expanses incurred in treating the patient if the
accident is not fatal.
More serious than the direct cost is the indirect cost or the hidden cost which the
management cant avoid. In fact, indirect cost three to four times higher than the
direct cost. Hidden cost include loss or accident of down time of operators showed
up production rate of other workers, material, spoiled and labor for cleaning and
damages to equipment. A safety plant, by avoiding accidents, eliminates this direct
and indirect cost.

INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY:

Safety plants are efficient plants to a large extant, safety promotes productivity.
Employees in safe plants can devote more time to improving the quality and quantity
of their output and spent less time worrying about their safety and well-being.
MORAL

Safety is imp. On human ground too. Managers must undertake accidents prevention
measures to minimize he pain and suffering the injured worker and his/her are often
exposed to a result of accidents.
An employee is a worker in the factory and the breadwinner for his/her family. The
happiness of his/her family depends upon the health of the worker.
LEGAL

There are legal reasons too for undertaking safety measures. the responsibility
extended to the safety and health of the surrounding community too. The civil law
establishes the extent of dangerous or compensation under the criminal law,
sentences are prescribed under the pollution control laws.

LACK OF STRONG TRADE UNION MOVEMENT:

In India trade union movement is still in its infancy and not strong to protect their
own interests. In industrialized and developed countries. Workers are strongly
organized into trade unions. As the forces of strong trade union is missing in our
country the welfare of laborers should be efficiently looked after by the employer
and the govt.

LACK OF LITERACY AND EDUCATION:

In comparison to other countries the percentage of educated worker is very low ;and
consequently they are not in a position to understand their own interests and interests
of employer and the society. Hence labor welfare is required more in India than in
other countries.

LACK OF HEALTHY RECREATION:

Worker does not have healthy recreation with the result that they indulge in crime
and other wrongful activities. Hence it is essential that recreation and entertainment
of a healthy kind be provided.
INDUSTRIAL BACKWARDNESS:

From the view point of industrial backwardness Indian industries are far behind than
other countries. Industrial program is dependent upon the efficiency of labor.
Welfare measures motivate the worker and maintain their efficiency and productivity.
FEATURES OF EMPLOYEES WELFARE

Employee welfare is an comprehensive team including various service facilities and

amenities provided to employees for their betterment.

Employee welfare is a dynamic concept verifying from country to country and from
region to region with in same country .it is a flexible over changing concept as to the
existing measures time to time.

Welfare employees are in addition to the regular wages and other economic benefits
available to the employees under legal provisions and collective bargaining.

Welfare measure may be provided not only by employers but also by government.

The basic purpose of employee welfare is to improve a lot of working class and
thereby make a worker a better employee and happy citizen.
TYPES OF WELFARE SERVICES

Welfare services related to physical and social well being of the employees both with in
the outside the organization. With in the organization, these include provision of medical
benefits, recreational facilities, libraries, canteens, and restrooms etc. they may also
include meals and refreshment supplied free of cost or at subsidized rates to the
employees. But outside the organization welfare arrangement include the provisions of
housing accommodation, education of children of employees, sports field, medical advise
for the family etc. on the whole, these services may be basically of three types.

ECONOMIC SERVICES
These provides some additional economic securities over and above wages and salaries
such as pension, life insurance and credit policy etc. the employer may contribute
towards the premium of life insurance of each employee. Some organization also help the
employees to start it co-operative credit societies to meet the urgent financial need of the
employees or consumer co-operative stores to provide the workers with consumer goods
at no profit no loss basis.

RECREATIONAL SERVOCES

The employees are in need of occasional diversion. Their attitude improves even the
routine every day living is broken occasionally. For this purpose management may
provide for recreational facility. More agreeable informal atmosphere is prompted
through the contacts and relationship builds up in the recreational evens. The
management may provide for indoor game like table tennis in the common room for
employees.
FACILIATATIVE SERVICES

These are the conveniences, which the employees ordinarily required such as

Canteen, rest room, and lunch room. All the companies are required to provide where
food can be obtained either at a fair price or at a specialized rate. Thus it is also necessary
for keeping the healthy and efficient condition.

IMPORTANT BENEFITS OF WELFARE

Welfare facility provides better physical and mental health to the workers.

These service facilities like housing schemes, medical benefits, and education
recreation facilities for the worker familys health created contented workers families.

Employees services serves to maintain some degree of peace with the employees
union.

Employer got stable workforce due to the provision of labor welfare. Workers take
active part in their jobs and work with a feeling of involvement and satisfaction.

Employer secures the benefits of high efficiency, cordial industrial relation and labor
absenteeism and turnover.

Labor welfare measures raise the labor productivity and bring industrial peace cordial
management relation.
RELATION BETWEEN LABOR WELFARE
AND PERFORMANCE IN THE COMPANY:

Labor welfare is very necessary for the performance. However performance of

individual in the organization depends on other factors also besides his levels of
motivation.

The performance of individual in the organization is effected by:-

Welfare of the individual.

1. His sense of competence.

2. His abilities.
3. His role perception and role clarity.
4. Organizational resources.
5. Companys facility.
6. Less salary system.
7. No salary for extra time work.
8. Extra ordinary facility.

If any of these element is taken away performance will be effected adversely. The
double headed arrow between welfare and sense of competence indicates the two
variables mutually influence each other.

Reward, as the result of individual performances effects the levels of welfare. If

reward is perceived as equitable these energies the individual for the better
performance and this process goes on.

Thus the welfare will lead to higher performance in the company by an individual
due to the followings:-
1. Efforts for higher performance.
2. Lower rate of absenteeism.
3. Loyalty and stability with the organization.
4. Adaptation to the organization changes, therefore motivation
effect performance.
FACILITY PROVIDED BY COMPANY

WHICH HELPS TO INCREASE WELFARE :

MEDICAL FACILITY:

Company gives medical insurance facility and keeps healthy to their employee.
Company gives medical facility on their cheap rate.

INSURANCE FACILITY:

Another facility given by Company is that insurance facility. Company does

insurance to their employee up to their job. Thats also motivates him.

BETTER WORKING ENIONMENT:

If the company Environment is wide and there fully condition like water,
lighting, Ventilation etc. then the worker motivates towards
their work.

EXTRA PAY FOR EXTRA WORK:

If any company give Extra pay for extra work. Then the employees motivate
towards the companies work. And companies achieve their goals earliest.
BONUS AND PROMOTOIN SYSTEM:

There should be Promotion system. If any employees does good work and that is
benefit able for company, then company should immediately promote him and
give him bonus. That system also motivates the subordinates.

FAIR WGES

This is also good work for welfare of the employee. If there is no discrimination
and no biasness. And providing fair wages on equitable bases. Then this helps to
increasethe welfare in the company.
OTHER FACILITY PROVIDED BY

COMPANY WHICH HELPS TO INCREASE

WELFARE OF EMPLOYEE:

1. Welfare facility
2. ESI facility
3. Holiday of festival
4. Organize seminar after 5-6 month.
5. Lower rate of partiality.
6. Provided training.
7. Training staff for maintaining work.
8. Loyalty towards employee.

Above facility express that if the companies fulfill thats facility then result shown
and output look very nice. The company achieves their goals very quickly.
Employees encourage and motivates in their work. They feel happy and rejoices.
Fantasy of pleasure comes in the employee mind. Their heart always in the work.
Because they remain satisfied with the companys facility.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research in common language refers to a search for knowledge . research is a scientific

and systematic search for pertinent information on a specific topic. In fact research is an
act of scientific investigation. Research methodology is a systematic way to solve
research problem. It may be understood as a science of studying how research is done
scientifically. In it we study the various step that are generally adopted by researchers in
studying his research problem. It is necessary for the researcher to know not only
research methods and techniques but also the methodology. The scope of research
methodology is wider than those research methods.

The research process consists of a series of closely related activities. At times, the first
step determines the nature of the last step to be undertaken, why a research study has
been undertaken, how the research problem has been defined, in what way and why th
hypothesis has been formulated, what data has been collected and what particulars
methods has been adopted and a host of similar other question are usually answered when
we talk of research methodology concerning a research problem or study.
PREPARING THE RESEARCH DESIGN

It is necessary for researcher to define conceptual structure which research would be

conducted. The function of research design so as to provide for the collection of relevant
evidence with minimum expenditure of efforts , time and money. In this project the
research design was as follows.

The time available for project was about one month.

There was no cost factor related o researcher.
The means of obtaining g the information was through questionnaires.

The design decision happens to be in respect of:-

1. What is the study about?

2. Why is the study being made?
3. Where will the study be carried out?
4. What type of data is required?
5. What will be sample design?
6. What techniques of data collection will be used?
7. How will the data be analyzed?
8. In what style will the report be prepared?
PREPARING THE SAMPLE DESIGN

A sample size is a definite plan for obtaining a sample from a given population. It refers
to techniques or procedure the researcher would adopt in selecting items of the samples.
In order that the data collected may be representative of the population, it was decided to
collect the information from a sample size of 100 employees. The sample was taken on
the basis of random sampling.

While developing a sampling design, the

researcher must pay attention to the following

points:-

1. Types of universe:-
It is clearly define the set of Objects technically called the
Universe. The universe can be finite or non finite.
,

2. Sampling unit:-

Sampling unit may be Geographically One such as state, district, village etc.
sampling unit is FARIDABAD.

3. Source list:-

It contains of all items of a universe. It Is also known as SAMPLING

FRAME from which sample is to be drawn.

4. Size of sample:-

This refers to the items to which Selected from the universe to constitute a
sample. The size of sample should neither be excessively large, nor too
small.

5. Sampling procedure:-

Finally the researcher must Decide the type of sample he will use i.e. we
must decide about the techniques to be used in selecting the items for the
sample.
DESIGNING THE METHODS OF DATA
COLLLECTION

In dealing with any problem once the sample has been selected, data must be collected
from the sample population. There are several ways of collecting the appropriate data
which differ considerably in context of money cost time and other resources. They can be
broadly divided into two categories:-
Primary data
Secondary data

PRIMARY DATA: -

Primary data is data collected by the immediate user of the data expressly for the survey
or experiment being conducted. It is that data we normally refer to when we talk about
data collection.

Observation method
Interview method
Questionnaire method
Schedule method
Other methods
Warranty cards
Distribution audit
Consumer panel
Mechanical devices
Pantry audit
Projective technique
Depth interview
Content analysis

I have used questionnaire method in my project, so now I am explaining this method:-

QUESTIONNAIRE METHED:-
The method of collecting by mailing or personally giving the questionnaire to
respondents is mostly extensively employed in various economic surveys. This method of
data collection is quite popular particularly in case of big enquires. A questionnaire
consists of a no. of questions printed or type in a definite order in a form or set of forms.
The questionnaire is given to a respondent who are expected to read and understand the
question and write down the reply in the space meant for the purpose in the questionnaire
itself.

METHODS OF QUESTIONNAIRE METHOD:-

Multiple choice method
Open handed method
Close handed method
MERITS OF QUESTIONNAIRE METHOD:-

Respondent have adequate time to give well thought out answer. It is free from
bias because the answer is in the respondents form.
It is a low cost method
Large sample can be made use of and thus the result can be made more
dependable and reliable.

DEMERITS:-
it is difficult to know whether willing respondents are truly representative.
This method is likely to be slowest of all.
The control over questionnaire may be lost once it is sent of given.
It can be used only when respondents are educated and cooperating

SECONDARY DATA:-

Secondary data refers to any data collected by a person or organization other than the user
of the data. Where does such data come from? A wide variety of individuals and
organization actually collect data, it follows that at least some of the data will come to be
made available to other individuals and organization. This data may be of considerable
value although the exact value will depend upon the type of study being carried out.
The sources of secondary data collection are:-

books and periodicals

government publication
reason publication
media source
commercial source
market share data
demographic & census updates
consumer attitude
public opinion research
stock market sources
other financial service
ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

After the survey undertaken, the filled questionnaires were received from the
responsibilities. The responses given were, then analyzed for further interpretation. Each
question is taken separately to show the change in opinion of people. All it is summarized
in the form of pie charts. The disputed part shows the percentage of satisfaction level of
regarding welfare facilities.

In altogether one hundred and twenty questionnaires distributed, hundred were received
back as completely filled. A copy of questionnaires is attached as annexure.
ANALYSIS OF EFFECTS MOTIVATION ON

TURNOVER

SUMMARY:

this diagram specify that the turnover is Decreasing year to year. It is clear from
the analysis that turnover of the company is decreasing since many years due to
providing facility and motivating. As it was 40% in 2007, 30% in 2008, and 20%
in 2009, 10% in 2010, 5% in 2011 .

So we can say that worker motivating and turnover decreasing.

years due to good relation between top management and lower management by
the stimulation. As it was 35% in 2004-05, 40% in 06-07, 58% in 08-09, and
82%in 10-11.

Now production increasing outside of the country. The company making good

Thats why many people encouraging.

This is due to the labor welfare.

ANALYSIS OF SATISFACTION OF
WORKER WITH WAGES AND SALARY

SUMMARY :

it is clear from the analysis that before In few years 50%workers are highly
satisfied with their wages, 15% are only satisfied $ 10% are dissatisfied, 25%
workers are not satisfied .

But influencing them and providing more facility and industrial relation with each
other and no biasness and no ambiguous information.
Thats all points also effects on satisfaction. Job should be based on interview
method. Interview also equal to all members.

Then all the members can be satisfied. Wages and salary should be provided on
equal bases. Company should provide extra payment for extra work. With wages
and salary company should provide promotion and bonus chances.

ANALYSIS OF SATISFACTION OF

WORKERS WITH DISPENSARY

SUMMARY:
it Is clear from the analysis that 35% are highly satisfied with the dispensary
facility, 25% are only satisfied and 20% dissatisfied and 20% workers are not
satisfied. Workers makes some recommendation for medical facility.
Due to this facility workers and employee doing their work very efficiently and
effectively. The worker and employee get well soon. By which company
achieving their alternative goals.

So we can say that company fulfilling the policy of welfare for their
employees by providing medical dispensary.
ANALYSIS OF SATISFACTION LEVEL OF
WORKER WITH CANTEEN FACILITY

SUMMARY:

it is clear from the analysis that 40%Workers are highly satisfied and 25% are
only satisfied, 20% are dissatisfied and 15% are not satisfied. This figure is better
than last year. Now company providing nice food just 6 RS. That rte is very
cheapest than the outside food rate. Employee and worker motivating day to day
and year to year. Because they getting the delicious and spices food on the
cheapest rate.
SATISFACTION LEVEL OF WORKERS IN
WORKING CONDITION:

SUMMARY:

According to the welfare activities 80 workers are satisfied, 17 saying no. and 3 says
nothing.
This means that a good percentage of workers are satisfied with the working condition.
ADEQUATE TRAINING PROGRAMS:

SUMMARY:

According to the survey 60 % workers are satisfied and 20 % workers are dissatisfied
and20 % dont know about such training program. this means that a % workers are
satisfied with welfare schemes of the organization.
LIMITATION OF THE RESEARCH

Takes a lot of time in taking surrey.

Proper feedback does not reach the head of the department.

May be employee biased.

Questionnaire may be incomplete.

Many employee interviewed did not give correct feedback.

Many of the employees refuse to fill the questionnaire as they considered it

to be the time consuming.
CONCLUSION
Labor welfare means any thing done for the comfort and improvement, intellectual and
social of the employees over and above the wages paid which improve their health an
bring high morale. The effective performance management is the driving force for
success of the organization which ensure that the individual work in the coordination to
obtain continue performance improvement. Moreover, adequate welfare facilities are the
only motivating force behind good performance and career development of the
employees.

The study of ECOCAT (INDIA) LTD. Enables us to conclude that the over all attitude
of the system is quite promising but still there are certain drawbacks present in the system
which needs to be corrected in order to make the system more acceptable and beneficial
for every employee of the org. the responses highlight that the employee are not fully
satisfied with the facility provided to them specially the long procedure followed for
sanctioning the travel and bank loans.

On the other hand, there are various issues on which the satisfaction level of the
employee is very high. The company provided proper health facility to the employees.
The various guidelines are properly stated and followed in relation to the accidents prone
areas. There is due emphasis on cleanliness both in the plant and in the township.

Following conclusion are coming with labor welfare:-

1. The employees and the management in the organization take full interest to the
welfare of their workers

2. The facilities are provided by the organization is very well.

3. More than 80% workers in all departments are satisfied with the facility provided to
them.

4. The behavior of the employer & the management is supportive to the workers.
SUGGESTION
Labor welfare includes provisions of various facility and amenities in and around the
work place for the better life of the workers. It is a part parcel of social welfares. It
includes medical, sports , education, cultural and other facility. In India, some welfare
facilities are compulsory as per labor law, while other are purely voluntary in nature.
Facilities services are building and maintain the morale of worker to achieve the
objectives of the org. during the study, it was noticed that although the company is
following the various enactments of the labor law efficiently but there are some
deficiencies which need to be filled for enhancing the satisfaction level of the employees.
Following are the suggestion for the same:-

The health and safety program must be conducted at frequent intervals to increase
awareness among employees.
Quality of safety equipments must be improved.
Proper cleanliness must be provided in restrooms.
Rest rooms must be properly furnished and must be provided with lockers.
subsidy on canteen food must be increased and also the quality of food must be
improved.
More attention should be given on recreation facility offered.
The facility, which is available in the org. should be maintained in a well manner.
The facilities, which are not prescribed by the various acts, should also be
provided to the employees because these facilities are the imp. Motivating factor
than the other the facility prescribed by the acts.
There should be a common dress code for employees in the org.
Training should be provided to the old workers for new technologies instead of
employing new persons for that technology.
