Process

The proposed broiler poultry farm will be under a contract growing scheme with San
Miguel Foods, Inc. (SMFI)Magnolia. With this, SMFI- Magnolia will provide for the chicks,
its medications and disinfectants to be used, feeds, as well as the delivery and fetching of the
broiler poultry birds to/from the poultry farm location. Expenses incurred by SMFI-Magnolia on
the medications and disinfectants will be reimbursed by the proponent owner after every cycle.
On the other hand, the grower which is the proposed owner, will provide for the building,
shoulder the utility costs, manpower and other support facilities like staff house, guard house,
supervisors house, farm workers house, manure shed, mortality pit, elevated water tank, waste
water treatment, and all other equipments necessary, and to have a good performance in the
growing of the birds. It should be noted that only authorized personnel are allowed to go beyond
the bio-security fence.

8 hours before the delivery of the 36,000 chicks, temperature of the entire production
building must be set for the entire 30 days of the growing of the birds. Newspapers will be
spread over for about part of the said part of the building for a week of brooding, and will be
eventually removed after 7 days. Pan feeders and galloon fonts will also be set up only up to the
part of the brooding section (so only of the building). The chicks to be delivered are from
SMFI- Magnolia and no cost shall be borne by the proponent owner, including delivery and
handling cost.

Before entering the place where the birds are, safety gears must have to be worn by each
farm worker such as safety suit, mask and boots. Also, soles of the boots worn must have to be
soaked in a disinfectant mixture located at the doorstep. When the chicks are already on the
broiler poultry farm, they will be transferred to the production building and will be placed in the
brooding section ready for occupancy for about 7 days. A temporary fence will be placed within
the production building for the brooding with the use of the heaters, to confine them to a lesser
area just enough for their size since they are still small. Since the birds are still on its first week,
manual feeding (including providing water for drinking with a mix of the necessary vitamins,
and/or antibiotic if the need arises) will take place with the use of pan feeders and galloon fonts
(720pcs each). After a week of brooding, the temporary fence will be adjusted to take up space
of the building for the growing of the birds, and will be eventually removed for the 3 rd and 4th
week for them to utilize the whole area.

The purpose of the automated feeding will take place after a week of brooding. He will
then go to the feeds section of the building and pour feeds on the huge container provided for
automated feeding. Automated feeding will then take place using the feeding lines. The
necessary medication, prescribed by the veterinarian provided by Magnolia will be also be
poured in a container by the farm worker that will automatically be mixed with the water on their
water linesthis mixture will come out in the bell drinkers to be consumed by the birds. The
farm worker on duty will refill the feed container once it runs out and list the number of sacks
used & give the list to the farm supervisor after his shift; or if not available, list it to the
whiteboard located on the wall on the front door. This is to ensure that proper feeding and
drinking is done. The automated feeding and drinking will be 24/7 and in cases of brownouts, the
generator will be used; in cases where water from San Jose Waterworks is also experiencing a
problem in regard to its water distribution, the water in the elevated water tank will be used. The
farm worker will also check on the birds if whether or not they are experiencing signs of
weakness due to some sort of illness like colds. Since SMFI- Magnolia also provides for the
veterinary needs of the birds. Once a week, they will come and check on the conditions of the
birds and make necessary actions when the need arises or when reports from the farm workers
about the birds conditions are received Also, during the shift of each farm worker, they will
monitor the birds and pick up the birds that die so as not to be mixed and contaminate the others.
He will then record the number of birds died and after accumulating them, throw them in the
mortality pit. This cycle will be repeated every day until harvest time. Estimated temperature of
the building will be as follows:

First day 32-34oC

1st week decrease 30oC
2nd week decrease 26oC
3rd week decrease 22oC
4th week decrease 20oC

The mortality record of each farm worker per shift will be forwarded by them to the farm
supervisor, as well as the number of sacks of feeds poured on the feed container if any. The farm
supervisor will then keep track of these records and monitor the mortality rate daily. When
problems arise, the farm supervisor will contact the proponent owner and discuss the problem.
Feed supply will be delivered by Magnolia once the sacks of feeds available is already 30% of
the feed section capacity

After 30 days, the grown birds will be harvested by the people who are willing to be paid
a harvest package of P.50 per bird harvested for a 3-day harvest period. SMFI- Magnolia will
provide for the birds container and delivery truck with driver and the gasoline used. After all the
birds are harvested, there will be 6 days of cleaning by the farm workers. The chicken dung
gathered will be placed in a sack and the sacks will further be placed on the manure shed for the
meantime while awaiting delivery/ pick up. Thirteen days vacation with holiday pay will then
occur after.
It should always be noted that the farm workers will not go outside the vicinity of the
poultry farm until after harvest in order not to bring diseases from outside and cause mortality
rates to increase, except only in cases of emergency.

Also, CCTV cameras will be installed in every corner where it is needed in order to see
what is happening inside and for internal control purposes too.
