005, Back Massage Therapy Effect Against Rheumatism

ABSTRACT

Rheumatism sufferers often experience leg and waist aches, joint and muscle pain,
when after doing strenuous activities or when out of bed in the morning, and nearly
all people with rheumatic disease recurrence if they only drink painkillers and had
not received treatment back message. The purpose of research is to know the effect
of back massage therapy against rheumatic pain intensity in the village Waung
Boyolangu Tulungagung subdistrict.
The research design was pre-experimental method with the approach of one group
pretest - posttest. These samples included 30 respondents who experienced pain
intensity light, medium, heavy with the sampling technique is purposive sampling.
Collecting data using the experimental method. Pain level measuring devices using a
numerical rating scale (numerical rating scale) AHCPR). Test research hypotheses
using non-parametric statistical tests Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test.
Results showed before being given a back massage, 8 respondents experiencing mild
pain with a scale of 1-3, respondents had moderate pain as many as 20 people a scale
of 4-6 respondents had experienced severe pain with a scale of 7-10 by 2
respondents. Having been given a back massage, there are 4 respondents who
experienced pain were 11 respondents who experienced mild pain and 15
respondents did not pain. Results Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test average of 2.80 pre
test and post-test average of 1.63. Value Z score = -4.436 with p-value = 0.000 less
than the level of significance () of 0.05 (p <0,05 hence Ho refused and Hi
accepted).
Means no influence back massage therapy to decrease pain intensity in the village
rheumatic Waung Boyolangu Tulungagung subdistrict. Expected back massage
therapy can be done on a regular basis to reduce pain in patients with rheumatism.
