Sheriff:

SB24 The Gun Bill was reported out of Senate

Judiciary Committee Wednesday, March 1, 2017, with
a favorable vote of six (6) to three (3). The Senators
voting for the bill were:

Senator Greg Reed, R Jasper

Senator Clay Scofield, R Guntersville
Senator Larry Stutts, R Tuscumbia
Senator Cam Ward, R Alabaster
Senator Tom Whatley, R Auburn
Senator Phil Williams, R Rainbow City

The three voting against giving SB24 a favorable vote

were:

Senator Linda Coleman, D Madison

Senator Hank Sanders, D Selma
Senator Bobby Singleton, D - Greensboro

These Senators are entitled to a Thank You note from

every Sheriff, but one.
Address directly to them at:

Alabama State House

Senator Bobby Singleton spoke out loud and clear that

if SB24 ever comes up for a vote on the Senate floor,
he will strongly speak against it and do his best to kill
it. Its bad legislation.
An outstanding support of Sheriffs, deputies and
support personnel were present at the hearing, but
most all agreed that NRA National Rifle Association
had already secured the favorable votes. Former
National President of NRA, Attorney Jim Porter (a
longtime friend of mine) spoke for the bill and injected
the pistol permit fund, as did Sheriff Mike Hale, as a
reason to pass SB24; that a citizen should not have to
pay for his/her constitutional right to bear arms. Yet,
NRA sends me a letter 4 to 6 times a year asking for
money. SB24 is not a 2 nd Amendment bill and NRA
should have kept their nose out of it. Jim Porter
should not have been there representing NRA. I am a
lifetime Golden Eagle NRA Member and I resent the
past Presidents involvement in legislation that is
none of their business.
Democracy in our country mean majority carries and
most votes wins. Whether you agree or not, the party,
association or club that receives the majority vote
wins and the members that do not like the move or
disagree with the vote, diplomacy should prevail
within the association.
Every elected official in this country is in office
because they got the most votes even elected
Sheriffs.
The Alabama Sheriffs Association voted openly to be
against SB24 and the majority in attendance won.
Together, whichever way you voted, should have
bonded.
What happened?

Pistol permit fee is absolutely voluntary

Fishing license fee is absolutely voluntary
Hunting license fee is absolutely voluntary
Driving license fee is absolutely voluntary
Marriage license fee is absolutely voluntary

If you dont want to participate in any of these

subjects, you do not have to.

God made the lakes and rivers and oceans and god put
the fish in them but If you want to go fishing you
should purchase a license.

God made the woods and forests and god put the
animals therein but If you want to go hunting you
should purchase a license.

The legislature and congress made the roads to travel

on but if you Want to drive on them you should
purchase a license.

And so the world goes on.

Thank you senators for giving everyone the right to

carry a gun but Dont bring it in the statehouse! Why
not?
