Course title: Principles and strategies of teaching in health education Course Description: Designed to provide a solid foundation to the profession of Medical Laboratory Science, this course includes an overview of key terminology; program planning, implementation, and evaluation; professional roles and responsibilities; and future directions. Co-requisite: none Credit: 3.0 units lecture Hours: 3 hours every week Course Requirements: 1. Two Examinations (Midterm and Finals): Written examinations will be based on textbook/distributed readings and classroom discussions. These examinations must be taken on scheduled dates. Although the content/process of the course builds throughout the semester, written examinations are not designed to be comprehensive. 2. Portfolio: As part of this class, a group of student must develop a portfolio. It contains Theories, concepts, examples and individual refection of students. 3. Health Teaching Plan (30% of final grade): By the end of the semester, students must develop a Health teaching plan. More detailed information will be provided throughout the semester to guide preparation of student health teaching plan to meet departmental guidelines. 4. Attendance/Class Participation: Attendance is required and absences will affect your grade due to in-class work that cannot be made up. Absent students are responsible for getting class notes and any materials distributed in class. Active participation in classroom activities and discussion is expected from all students. A variety of instructional strategies will be incorporated/evaluated on a regular basis during class. Methodology: A variety of teaching methods and learning strategies will be used. These will include, but not be limited to, lecture, class discussion, small group discussion, cooperative learning activities. Course objectives: 1.
