opportunity to undertake my project semester training at their Project Work
in Thapar University, Patiala Campus.

I would like to convey my heartiest thanks to Rahul Bhardwaj Sir (Project Manager), Shiv
Kumar Sir (Resident Engineer) who supported me and assisted me throughout the orientation
and also guiding and encouraging me all through the training and providing in-depth knowledge
of the project.

DECLARATION

I, Sahil Rawat , student of Thapar University hereby declare that I have started my
project training in the Academic Year 2016 at Learning Block ,Thapar University,
Patiala, on 19 July, 2016. The information submitted in this report is true and
original to the best of my knowledge and belief.
ABOUT THE COMPANY

Gannon Dunkerley & Company initially incorporated as a Private Ltd Company in 1924 was
converted to Public Ltd. Company in 1948, after taking over by Indian Management.

Gannon carved out its name in the Civil Construction, after diversification and gradually made its
presence felt in all major sectors of construction, both Industrial and Infrastructure, throughout the
country.

GDCL developed confidence with successful completion of several major Civil Construction projects
including RCC Bowstring girder bridges in South India with own in-house design. The Company also
constructed major irrigation and hydroelectric projects, water works and large factory buildings. The
company pioneered in precast RCC Construction. From 1950 onwards Civil Engineering
Construction became the main thrust in the Company's business. In order to undertake turnkey
projects, the Company started its Mechanical and Electrical Department in mid 50s, to provide an
integrated solution for industries, as a preferred partner of large business houses. In mid 70s the
Company diversified into environment sector by building water treatment plants on turnkey basis. In
1990, the Company proudly contributed to the modernization of Indian Railways by establishing a
pre-stressed concrete sleeper factory at Rayagada (Odisha). The Company has also taken keen
interest in providing efficient material handling systems viz. the baggage conveyor belts at all major
airports across the country.

The company re-entered Infrastructure Sector in Highways, Railways, Bridges/Flyovers across the
country in the last decade. With the confidence and experience gained over the years, the Company
also took up irrigation projects viz. canals and irrigation structures.

The company has acquired IMS certification covering ISO 14001:2004, OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO
9001:2008 to project itself as a Quality, Health, Safety and Environment compliant construction
company, reinforcing clients confidence.

Gannon has a distinct privilege of successfully completing over 3000 projects. Companys regular
present staff strength is over 4239 technical and commercial personnel excluding labour and muster
staff employed at project sites.

The company has four Civil Engineering Divisions located in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata
besides Material Handling Unit in Kolkata and Water Treatment Division in Delhi to cater to the
needs of clients across the country.

SPECIFICATIONS OF THE PROJECT:

On site I will work as a Site Engineer from contractor side i.e. GDCL. I will be doing
my entire training mainly at Computer Science block in which the client is Thapar
University.

SCOPE OF LEARNING AND METHODOLOGY


These will be the areas of learning during my project semester-
Safety at Site
Shuttering and Scaffolding
Steel Binding
Preparing Bar Bending Schedule (BBS)
Concreting and Curing
Quality control lab
Batching Plant Details
Concrete Mix Design

Methods to be followed:

By daily visiting the site and observing the activities being performed.

By maintaining the daily diary from which I can figure out what was going on that day
and how it was being done viz. reflective diary.

By remaining in touch with all the people at site and learning from each one of them

Co-relating practical things with theoretical things and always trying to find out the
difference between the two.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

1. Construction of the Multi storied Building Sub Structure and Super structure.
2. Finishing work of the Multi storied Buildings.
3. Management of the labors.
4. Studying the Reinforcement Detailing Drawings and implementing them on the field.
5. Checking the Standards are maintained or not at the site.
6. Cross checking the Paper Work and the Field Work.
7. Maintaining the Quality Standards.
8. How to make BBS (Bar Bending Schedule) and the quantity estimation of the concrete.
9. Designing of building components ( slabs and beams ).
10. To know about practical problems faced at site and learn troubleshooting methods.

11. To develop an understanding of modern construction materials and techniques.

12. To develop confidence to take up a project activity independently.

13. To enhance the knowledge about safety aspect of civil engineering.

14. To be able to learn lab components and various field tests using IS CODES.
