THE CORRUPTION IN PLAIN SIGHT

Abstract

There is around 20 to 30 million slaves in the world today. There are 600,000 to 800,000 people

that are sex trafficked across international borders per year. 80% of that 600,000 to 800,000 are

women and half are children. Throughout the world the average cost of a slave is only $90. The

fact that you can purchase another human being for only $90 is disturbing. Thes men, women,

and children get abducted from their own homes and get sold. 80% of people abducted are sent

to work at brothels, forced into prostitution, used for the purpose of creating pornography, and

other sexual crimes. There are still a lot of people that think sex trafficking has died out but if

anything it's just getting worse. I think this is an important cause that needs to be stopped with

more laws and police forces dedicated to it.

THE CORRUPTION IN PLAIN SIGHT

The Corruption in Plain Sight

Did you know there's about 800,000 people sex trafficked around the world each year? It

sounds unrealistic because it is such a large number but it is accurate. A lot of people overlook

sex trafficking because you never hear it talked about in the media. That is what makes it so bad

because when people are unaware no one tries to stop it. Sex trafficking is a serious danger and

getting worse by the minute, people need to be aware of it so that it can start getting better. In

this essay I will be talking about what exactly sex trafficking is and why its such a big problem,

who and where sex trafficking effects, and what we can do to help spread the message and stop

sex trafficking. Now let's talk about sex trafficking and why it's such a big problem.

Sex trafficking is one of the biggest global issues in the world. Sex trafficking is when

someone is abducted or sold and then sent to brothels, forced into prostitution, forced into

pornography, and many other vile sex crimes. Even though it is on the top list of global issues

people still don't acknowledge it as being as bad as it is. There is no line to far for these people

they will abduct men, women, and evan children and infants for use later. Once they sell these

human beings for the average price of less than one hundred dollars the buyer/ bidder can do

whatever they want with them whether it is for personal use or for a brothel or any other sex acts.

THese people getting sex traffic get little to no food, no clothes, and worst of all they get beaten

if they don't obey sometimes evan killed. These are the reasons sex trafficking is such a awful

thing now let's talk about who sex trafficking effects.

Anyone can be sex trafficked. Sex trafficking happens all around the world with the top 5

places being Bangladesh, Brazil, Haiti, Pakistan, India. Even though it may not seem like it

people are abducted for sex trafficking in the United states all of the time. There is about 244,000

people abducted for it in the United States each year. They don't care who you are they will

abduct anyone any gender or any age. World wide there are around 800,000 people abducted per

year. 80% of that 800,000 are women and half are children. People get abducted for sex

trafficking all around but some of the main places are on the way to school/ work, at a airport, or

80% of that 800,000 are women and half are children. Not only can you be sex trafficked from

being abducted some family will sell their children or evan their wives. After hearing all of these

horrible thing about sex trafficking let's talk about how we can help fix it.

All these terrible things really do go on and there's not many people trying to stop it. It

may not seem like it but there's a lot you can do. The first way is to to volunteer and help out anti

sex trafficking groups. There a lot of groups that could use your help just look them up to find

one near you. The second way is to donate to a cause supporting sex trafficking. Donating to a

sex trafficking cause is one of the best things that you can do because you are helping to fund

laws and police forces to help people out around the world. The third way you can help is by

notifying friends and family to help spread the word that sex trafficking is still around. Just

simply telling people you know everyday helps spread the knowledge. These are just a few of the

many ways you can help these women, men, and children. Let's talk about some other peoples

opinions.
THE CORRUPTION IN PLAIN SIGHT

Can you believe that some people dont think sex trafficking is as massive as it is? It

sounds crazy I was shocked when i read this but if you go around and ask people how big of a

deal they think sex trafficking is and then show them the statistics i think they would be shocked

to. The fact that sex trafficking isn't considered one of the world's biggest problems is actually

quite scary. Most people that don't consider sex trafficking a major deel also don't know all of

the facts of how many people it affects each year. They also don't know where these boys and

girls go and what happens to them after they are abducted or sold by their family.

As you can see from what I have written sex trafficking is a serious danger and getting

worse by the minute, people need to be aware of it so that it can start getting better. In this essay

I talked about what sex trafficking is and why it is such a big problem. I also talked who and

where sex trafficking effects. The last thing we talked about was how you can help stop sex

trafficking. I hope after reading this essay it persuades and motivates you to think about sex

trafficking in a new way and to want to help put an end to it.

Kristof, N. D., & WuDunn, S. (2009). Half the sky: turning oppression into opportunity for women
worldwide. New York: Alfred A. Knopf.

The book half the sky is about a lot of different things. The first three paragraphs are

about sex trafficking, the next two are about gender based violence, 6 7 and 8 are about

maternal mortality, 9 and 10 are about education, and the last three are about economic

empowerment. The book talks about people and their stories who have experienced these

things. The book has a very serious tone and talks about very serious issues. I would

highly recommend the book but it talks about a lot of mature things so i would definitely

not recommend it to anyone under the age of fifteen.

Stories of Trafficking. (n.d.). The Politics of Sex Trafficking. doi:10.1057/9781137318701.0006

The Politics of Sex Trafficking is a very interesting jurnal about the politics behind sex

trafficking. The journal talks about sex trafficking from multiple perspectives. It talks

about it from the government's perspective on it, it talks about the people committing the

crimes perspective on it, and the average civilians perspective on it. They talk about sex

trafficking in the USA and in Australia. They interview people who have be the victim of

sex trafficking and the also interview political figures about what their stance is with sex

trafficking. Another thing that the journal states is some of the current groups and

organizations that have to do with sextrraficing.

This book is about a man named cara and his stories of sex trafficking he has seen in

sex trafficked. Kara went to India, Nepal, Burma, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, the United

Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, Albania, Moldova, Mexico, and the United

States. He experienced sex trafficking in all of them one way or another.

In this news article they talk about sex trafficking and and prevention of it. They give you

the facts and statistics of sex trafficking. They say that sex trafficking is valued to be an

estimated $32 billion-a-year global industry. They also said that a sex trafficking is the

second most profitable crime. It says that sex trafficking takes place every where whether

you think so or not. They talk about how a lot of states are starting to form sex trafficking

police task forces. The last thing that it mentions is how sex trafficking is one of the

fastest growing criminal network and has to be stopped.
