CONCEPT- Took idea from the infamous Jack the Ripper murder case during the 1888. As for my idea, I am retelling the story of Jack the Ripper but in the point of view of one of the main detectives on the case but as the story, goes on the audience will realise that the detective is actually Jack the Ripper himself. NARRATIVE- Majority of the script is told from Detective R. Hardys perspective. In my idea, Detective R. Hardy is the main character as it is from his point of view. Throughout the script, you will meet many secondary characters like Hardys wife Jolene, who is Hardys Detective Partner. My idea is going to be set in 1888, In Whitechapel District of East End of London. The premise starts on the 3rd April 1888 on a normal day at work. Seemingly normal throughout the day hardly any crimes to solve. When the day meets nightfall, the normality of the day changes as Emma Elizabeth Smith was found dead causing an uproar for the Detectives. R. Hardy realises Whitechapel will never be the same again whilst trying to uncover the truth and the suspect in this case. As more and more dead body count connecting the suspect to be under the alias of Jack the Ripper, Hardy discovers his own secret and his link to the murders themselves. After regaining, all of those lost memory as he goes mad causing another version to come spiralling out- Jack the Ripper is his spilt personality. CHARACTERS PROFILES- Detective R. Hardy/ Jack the Ripper: A 30 year old man. Who is a hard working excellent detective as he has solved 20 cases before the most gruesome case turns up on his desk. He has been in the police force for 12 years. He is well regarded and well respected among his colleagues. He is married to Jolene. He has no recollection of memory of any of the Ripper like states as he always in a zoned out/possessed like state when the murders were committed. He always wonders why Jack the Ripper has never been caught as he himself is Jack the Ripper and the main detective on this case. Throughout time of murders occurrences he gets fragments of his memory during the possessed like state he realises that Jack the Ripper has been him the whole time. After discovering that he himself is the infamous murderer, Jack the Ripper he tries to cover up his doings by blaming it on someone else. Over time, he gains a guilty conscious and discovers that he has a split personality. At the end, he goes mad and sees his alternate personality that maliciously killed women in a Ripper state. Jolene Hardy: She is Detective R. Hardys wife. They have been married since they were 19 years old. She is a Detective too as she is R. Hardys partner. She is also well respected among the police force. She is 29 years old and have been in the police force for 11 years. She finds out about his spilt personality and that the murders that they are investigating has been his other persona as he comes back home from one of the murders all bloodied up and meets Jack the Ripper in him. She finds out before R. Hardy does yet she keeps it a secret and helps him through it, as she loves him unconditionally no matter what he has done even though she does know it was not he it was his spilt personality. TARGET AUDIENCE- For my project the target audience would be aimed at 25- 40 year olds as the theme is very mature and deals with the true story of the gruesome murders that Jack the Ripper committed during that time. As it would not be suitable for younger generations as you see an aspect of the murderous reality and it features the theme of mental disorder as my main character Detective R. Hardy discovers that he has a split personality, which is Jack the Ripper. In addition, my script would be aimed at higher classes like A-B demographic because the language used will be very sophisticated and at a high level due to period of time it is set in and the status the Detective upholds. WHERE IT WILL BE AIRED? - It will be shown on BBC 1 because similar projects have been broadcasted on the Channel and BBC 1 has the majority of the specific target audience that my project is targeted towards. As the context of the series is very mature and suitable for audiences as the younger generation wont be likely to be watching programmes on BBC1, Channel 1 type of channels. I have taken inspiration from Ripper Street TV show and the actual case of Jack the Ripper that took place in 1888. BUDGET- On average, it would cost 2-3 million in production value per episode. In addition, it would cost overall 20million to film the whole series. This may change, as there are different factors that may contribute to the increase or the decrease of the overall budget, such as how big the actors are in the industry. I took slight inspiration of how much production value my TV series will be from Ripper Street overall budget, which was 20 million. From two sources it said that Ripper Street had employed a 5,000 Irish cast, extras and crew providing 170,000 Irish work hours per series which was shot in Dublin. The production budget had to include paid work for the cast and crew meaning that huge section of the budget was to pay the workers. Although Ripper Street was a commercial and critical success, it did lose 3.4million in pre-tax loss. According to BBC tariffs, the TV series would cost 175-220k for tariffs per hour. Independent.ie. UNIQUE SELLING POINT- The unique selling point of my production is that this version of the Jack the Ripper story is told from the perspective of the killer/detective himself. As the infamous story of Jack the Ripper, has always been told from an outside source meaning that my production will give the audience a peek at the psychosis of the killers mind, which has never been done before.
