HIS EMINENCE, CARDINAL TIMOTHY MANNING

Archbishop of Los Angeles
3

ARCHDIOCESE OF LOS ANGELES

1531 WEST NINTH STREET
LOS ANGELES, CALl FORN lA 900 I 5
388-8101

Dear friends:

"Doing the truth in love" requires a mature

commitment to Him whose immeasurable love brought us out
of darkness into His own wonderful light.

It is a call from the Master of life and love,

who assures us of His presence through prayer, Sacraments,
His revealed word, and Christian example.

It is extending ourselves outside the normal

pattern of everyday living to reach others with the message
of Christ Jesus, who said: "The truth will make you free."

Our Religious Education Congress is always an

opportunity for each one of us individually - as well as a
community - to experience new spiritual and intellectual
growth. The joy of these moments together cannot be described
in words, but the Spirit speaks of it in our hearts.

Praying God's special blessing upon all of you,

our Congress delegates, as well as all whose many hours of
planning and work have made these days possible, I am

Very devotedly yours,

Timothy Cardinal Manning

1. By accepting our flesh, Christ redeemed us!
And the light was born through Mary, Mother of the Savior.
He is the light which is born in darkness
He is "God with us", whose power conquers evil.
2. By living with mankind, Christ redeemed us!
In silence she followed him, Mother of the Savior.
He died for the sake of love.
To the poor of his People he offered his Truth.
3. Love conquered death, Christ redeemed us!
She rejoiced in his triumph, Mother of the Savior.
All you, wait in hope, and we will see Salvation.
Christ conquered (sin) forever, and now we have
freedom.
4. Now our World is renewed, Christ redeemed us!
She builds it with us, Mother of the Savior!
