Context:
State run school in Moreno, 5th form.
Unit 3: Lesson 2.
Lesson 1 : Comprehension of information

Attempts:
To give students (SS) the chance of being exposed to L2 input.
To provide SS with the tools for them to comprehend the core of texts(s).
To guide SS to set their attention on the descriptive function of L2.
To frame the class context for SS to get familiar with the structure of the
descriptive function.
To lead SS into connecting form and meaning of L2 use coherently.

Learning objectives
To comprehend a story;
To classify language functions;
To link language form with given context coherently : cause-effect

Language
Stories: narrative frame
Vocabulary: animals and action verbs
Notions: ability (II)1 , cause-effect , present time and progressive aspect.
Functions: describing events at the moment of the message. Linking
cause and effect.
Grammar: modal verb: can (II) and Present Continuous.

Introduction
T greets students (SS). T asks: Whats the weather like today? T elicts from
SS: Esta nublado , Hace fro. T echoes : Its cloudy, Its cold.

Revision
T: Remember the movie Rio?
S1: Si!!!!
1 (II) Stands for recycling: SS have already dealt with this topic.
T: Remember the story?
S2: Rio no puede volar..
S3: ..puede volar cuando se enamora.
T: Good!

Development
T: Look at these pictures!
SS:! Es cuando Blue nace y ve que no es como los otros..
T: What color are the macaws?
SS: Blue and yellow.
T: Qu es lo que esta mirando Blue?
SS: Que los pjaros estas bailando / volando.
T. What about this picture?

SS: Se esta cayendo!


T: It is falling down. Why?
SS: No puede volar!

Follow up
T leads in a game-like activity. T tells SS that she will say a statement , if the
statement is TRUE SS should stand up; if the statement is FALSE SS should
keep seated. T asks one S to repeat his/her words in Spanish (L1).
1. Blue is dancing.
2. The yellow birds are flying.
3. Blue is happy. He is falling down.
4. Blue cant fly.
5. The yellow birds are falling down.

Close -up
T asks SS to put the story is order , T sticks on the board slips of colourful
paper with parts of the story. T reads out loud the parts of the story and asks
for volunteers to say the L1 equivalent. T calls different SS to the front to put
story in order .

BLU
E

1- Blue jumps off the tree; he is falling down!

2- Blue is sleeping. The music is playing.

3- Blue can see the yellow birds; they are flying.

4- Blue wakes up. He can see a lot of birds; they are


dancing.

Follow up (1)
T asks SS to tell the whole story in L1.

Follow up (2)
T gives SS homework . T copies on B.

Choose one sentence form the story and draw the scene.

T asks SS to say what they are to do in L1.
