PakistanInternationalAirlinescantraceitsoriginstothedayswhen
PakistanhadnotyetgainedindependencefromtheBritishRaj.In1945,the
country'sfounderMuhammedAliJinnahrealizedtheneedforaflagcarrier
fortheprospectivecountryandrequestedfinancialhelpfromwealthy
businessmenMirzaAhmadIspahaniandAdamjeeHajiDawoodforthis
purpose.Aroundthattime,anewairline'OrientAirways',wasregisteredin
Calcuttaon23October1946.InFebruary1947,theairlineboughtthree PIAL1049CSuperConstellationat
DouglasDC3aircraftandobtainedalicensetoflyinMayofthesame London(Heathrow)Airport(1955)
year.TheairlinestarteditsoperationsinJune,offeringservicesfrom
KolkatatoSittweandYangon.On14August1947,Pakistangained
independenceandOrientAirwaysstartedreliefoperationsforthenewcountry.ItwasthefirstandonlyMuslim
ownedairlineintheBritishRajandflewfrom1947to1955.

On6June1954,OrientAirwaysstarteditsoperationsbyofferingflight
servicesbetweenEastandWestPakistan,withservicefromKarachito
Dhaka.Inaddition,theairlinealsointroducedtwonewdomesticroutes:
KarachiLahorePeshawarandKarachiQuettaLahore.However,dueto
sustainedlossesbeingsufferedbytheairline,theGovernmentofPakistan
proposedthatOrientAirwaysmergewithanewnationalairline.On11
March1955,OrientAirwaysmergedwiththegovernment'sproposed
airline,becomingPakistanInternationalAirlinesCorporation.The AConvairCV240inthe1950sat
newlyformedairlinealsoinaugurateditsfirstinternationalroute,Karachi KarachiAirport
LondonHeathrowAirport[16]viaCairoandRome,usingfournewly
acquiredLockheedL1049CSuperConstellations.Theairlinecontinued
usingDC3sondomesticroutesinPakistan.InMay1956,PIAorderedfive
VickersViscount815s.

1960s

TheappointmentofAirMarshalNurKhanastheManagingDirectorof
PIAin1959heraldedaneraofsuccessforPIA.InMarch1960,PIAwet
leasedaBoeing707fromPanAmericanairlines,therebybecomingthe PakistanInternationalBoeing720at
secondAsianairlineafterAirIndia[17]toinductajetaircraftinitsfleet. London(Heathrow)Airportafter
Withthenewlyacquiredaircraft,theairlineintroduceditsfirsttrans arrivingfromKarachi(1962)
AtlanticrouteKarachiNewYorkviaLondonin1961.In1962,itexpanded
itsfleetbyplacingordersforBoeing720s,FokkerF27Friendships,and
Sikorskyhelicopters.On2January1962,aPIABoeing720Bflownby
CaptainAbdullahBaigfromLondontoKarachiestablishedaworldrecord
forspeedoveracommercialairlinerouteforpoweredlandplanesof

From1962to1966,PIAoperateditsSikorskyS61helicoptersforservices

PakistaniArmedForcesusedPIA'sservicesforlogisticsandtransport
purposes.TheViscountswerephasedoutin1966andwerereplacedby
fourHawkerSiddeleyTridents.

1970s

The'70swasmarkedbyresumptionoftransatlanticflights,introductionof
PIAMcDonnellDouglasDC1030at
newdestinations,appointmentofNurKhanasitsexecutiveforthesecond
FrankfurtAirportin1977
term,andthebeginningofafinanciallysuccessfulperiodfortheairline.
WhenthepoliticalsituationinEastPakistan(presentdayBangladesh)
starteddeterioratinginearly70s,thePakistanArmyonceagainusedPIA'sservicestoairliftsoldiersand
ammunitiontoEastPakistan.MostflightshadtodetourtoSriLankaduringtripsbetweenWestPakistanandEast
Pakistan.WiththeestablishmentofcordialtiesbetweentheLibyanandPakistanigovernmentsinearly70s,PIA
addedanewinternationalroute,Tripoli,toitsmapin1972.ItalsosignedanagreementwithYugoslavairlineJAT.

PIAacquiredMcDonnellDouglasDC10sin1973andusedtheaircrafttoreplaceBoeing707300s.In1974,PIA
launchedPakistanInternationalCargo,offeringairfreightandcargoservices.In1975,PIAintroducednew
uniformsforairhostesseswhichwerechosenthroughanopencompetition,withthewinningentrydesignedbySir
HardyAmies,thedesignerofHerMajestyQueenElizabethII.

ThelaterhalfofthedecadewitnessedfurtherexpansionofPIA'sfleetwiththeintroductionofBoeing747s
througheitherleasedorpurchasedaircraft.DuringthisdecadePIAwasregardedasAsia'sbestairline.[21]Forthe
firsttimesinceitsinauguration,PIAstartedprovidingtechnicalandadministrativeassistanceorleasedaircraftto
foreignairlinesincludingSomaliAirlines,PhilippineAirlines,AirMaltaandYemenia.AsubsidiaryofPIAalso
startedprovidinghotelmanagementservicesinUnitedArabEmiratestowardstheendofthedecade.

1980s

The1980sdecadebeganwiththeopeningofacargohandlingcentreat
Karachiairport,dutyfreeshops,thefirstCandDsafetychecksonits
entirefleet,aswellastheintroductionofairline'sfirstAirbusA300B4203
aircraft.In1984,theairlineintroducedNightCoachserviceasalowcost
alternativetodaytimedomesticflights.Inthefollowingyears,PIA
PlanetariumwasinauguratedinKarachiwhichwasfollowedby
planetariumsinLahoreandPeshawar.Theseplanetariumsfeaturedretired
PIAaircraftondisplayforeducationalorobservationalpurposes.Two
moreretiredBoeing720Baircraftweredonatedtotheplanetariumsin
KarachiandLahorelateron.

Alsoin1985,fivenewBoeing737300swereintroducedtoPIA'sfleet,
makingPIAthefirstAsianairlinewithsuchadiverseaircraftfleet.Inlate PIA1980slegacytailwhichbecame
1987andearly1988,servicestoMalandTorontowereintroduced.In anidentityfortheairline
1990,FirstOfficerMalihaSamibecamethefirstfemalepilotofPIAwhen
shetookoffontheKarachiPanjgurTurbatGwadarroute.

Inthemid1980s,PIAalsohelpedestablishEmiratesbyleasingtwoofitsaircraftanAirbusA300andaBoeing
737300aswellasprovidingtechnicalandadministrativeassistancetothenewcarrier.

1990s

InJune1991,thefirstofsixA310300aircraftonorderwasdelivered.
AVMFarooqbecamethefirstMDofShaheenAirlineandShaheenAir
InternationalaswellasShaheenCargoandMDShaheenAirPortservices
Lahoreandremainedsountil1993.Withthenewaircraft,theairline
introducedflightstoTashkentin1992andtoZrichin1993.

InMarch1993,AVMFarooqUmarbecameMDPIAandalsoopenskies
fromKarachitoDubaiweredeclaredand12privateairlineswereallowed
tooperatedomesticallyinPakistan.Bothstepscamesimultaneouslyand
putgreatpressureonPIA'sfinancialperformance.FarooqUmartomeetthe PIAAirbusA300atFiumicino
challenge,foughtthebattleofopenskiesandopenedupsixnewroutesto Airport,Rome(1991)
thePersianGulfandCIScountriesalongwithtouristsattraction'airsafari'.
HealsomademajorchangesinroutesandschedulesandstartednonstopflightsfromLahoreandIslamabadto
JFKandCanada.PIAaddedJakarta,Fujairah,BakuandAlAintoitsdestinationsin1994.Inaddition,PIA
becameaclientofthreeflightreservationsystems,namely:Sabre,GalileoandAmadeus.'AirSafari'flightswere
launchedin1994usingBoeing737300aircraftthatusedtoflyovertheKarakorammountainrange.In1995,

1996FarooqUmarhandedoverPIAtoanotherMDMarch1996closinghistenurewithgreatsuccessandleaving
PIAprofitablewithlast6monthsprofitofmorethan55millionPKR.afterhisdeparturePIAstartedtonosedive.
PIApurchasedaBoeing747flightsimulatortotrainitspilots.ItalsopurchasedanotherusedAirbusA300aircraft.
ATupolevTu154aircraftwasalsoleasedbrieflyin1996tocopewithsurgeinpassengertrafficduringsummer
1996.FlightstoBeirutwereresumedthesameyearaswell.

In1999,PIAleasedfiveBoeing747300aircraftfromCathayPacifictoreplaceitsBoeing747200Mfleet.The
aircraftwerepaintedwithanewliveryahandworkPashminatailonwhitebodyandlargePakistantitlesonthe
frontfuselage.Theliverywasadoptedinearly90sbutduetosomecopyrightissuesitwasdropped.TheBoeing
747300sremainedinthenewlookbutwithaplaingreentailwithPIAtitles.Theotheraircraftinthefleetwere
repaintedinearly1990slivery.

2000s

InJuly2002,PIApurchasedsixBoeing747300aircraftfromCathayPacific,fiveofwhichwerealreadyonlease.
ThesixthonearrivedshortlyafterwardsandwasusedmainlyonitsNorthAmericanandEuropeanroutes.In
October2002,afteraperiodoftenyearswithoutanyneworders,theairlineplacedanorderforeightBoeing777
aircraft.Theorderincludedallthreevariantsof777,i.e.three777200ER(ExtendedRange),two777200LR
(LongerRange)andthree777300ERversions.PIAwasthelaunchcustomerthatrevivedtheBoeing777200LR
projectthat,untilthen,onlyhadthreeorders.

Boeingdeliveredthefirstofthree777200ERaircrafttoPIAinJanuary
2004.PIAintroducedanewliveryforthe777200ERsthatwasappliedto
mostofitsfleet.PIAalsoleasedsixmoreAirbusA310300aircraftdirectly
fromAirbus.On3November2005,PIAplacedanordertopurchaseseven
ATR42500aircrafttoreplaceitsagingfleetofFokkerF27Friendships.
On6December2005,PIAacquiredanothernewBoeing777200ERona
tenyearlease.TheaircraftwasdeliveredinJanuary2007totheairline.

On25February2006,Boeingdelivereditsfirst777200LRtoPIA,whenit
flewfromEveretttoIslamabadviaManchester.Withtheinductionoflong AleasedAirbusA321takingoff
rangeaircraftinitsfleet,PIAstartedofferingnonstopflightsfromToronto fromIslamabadAirport(2006)
toKarachi,Islamabad,andLahorefrom3March2006.PIAhadalso
plannednonstopflightstoNewYork,Chicago,Washington,andHoustonbutwasnotgivenpermissionbyUS
authorities(unlesstheairlineimplementedaEuropeanstopoverontheflighttoAmericancities).OnlytheNew
Yorkflightremains,anditonlyisnonstoponthewaybacktoPakistan(fromPakistantoNewYorktheflightstops
inManchester).Washingtonserviceendedinthe1990s,Houstonservicesendedin2006,andChicagoservice
endedin2012.

ATRdeliveredtwoofthesevenorderedATR42stoPIAinMayandDecember2006respectively,followingwhich
theairlineceasedusingmilitaryLockheedC130HerculesforpassengerservicesinnorthernareasofPakistan.
ThemilitaryaircraftwerebeingusedafterthePIAFlight688accident.On23December2006,PIAtookdelivery
ofitsfirstBoeing777300ER.

On5March2007,theEuropeanCommissionbannedallbut9ofPIA's42strongfleetfromflyingtoEuropeciting
safetyconcernsoveritsagingaircraft.ThebanwasimposedfollowinganonsitevisitledbyFedericoGrandini,
theEuropeanCommissionsAirSafetyAdministrator.[22][23]ThefleetofBoeing777swasexemptedfromthe
ban.[24]PIAclaimedthatthebanwasdiscriminatoryandunjustifiable.On26March2007,TariqSaeedKirmani
wasforcedtoresignafterpressurefromhigherauthoritiesbecauseoftheEUban.ZafarKhanwasappointedasthe
newchairmanofPakistanInternationalAirlines.

Thebanonsomeoftheaircraftwasliftedafteraperiodoffourmonthson5July2007,followinganinspectionby
theEuropeanUnionAirSafetyAdministration.Oftheelevenaircraft,fivewereBoeing747300sandthe
remainingsixwereAirbusA310300s.On29November2007,theEUcompletelyremovedthebanandPIA's
entirefleetwaspermittedtoflytoEurope.[25]Toavoidsuchanincidentinfuture,PIAsignedadealtoleaseseven
newAirbusA320200s.Theaircraftweresupposedtobedeliveredduring2008and2009butthedealwas
cancelled.

2010s

In2010,PIAaltereditslivery.ThetaildesignwasreplacedwithamuchlargerversionofthePakistannational
flag,andaddedthetext"Pakistaninternational"ingoldwritingunderneaththelargebillboardstylePIAonthe
fuselage.Thegreenstripewasmodifiedtoincludegoldandwasextendedtotherearofthefuselage.

InFebruary2012,PIAorderedfivemoreBoeing777300ERaircraft.In2014,PIAleasedfourBoeing737800s.
PIAalsoissuedarequestfortenderforfourBoeing777300ERs.TheairlinealsowantedtoleasefourATR
aircraft.However,thebidsforthe777swerenotacceptedduetobiddingstandards.Later,Theairlinemanagedto
leaseAirbusA320aircraft,andinductedtwoA320214seriesaircraftinitsfleetin2014.Anotherwetleased
A320211aircraftjoinedPIAonAugust11,2014.InOctober2014,theairlineagainwetleasedthreeBoeing737
800aircraft,anditalsoacceptedbidstodryleasefiveATR72500seriesaircraftforaneightyearperiod.In2015,
afterservingPIAfor16years,theBoeing747300swerephasedout.

InAugust2016,PIAlaunchedanew'PremierService'forflightstoLondon,usingAirbusA330300wetleased
fromSriLankanAirlines.[11]Thewetleaseperiodendedafter6monthsandasaresult,A330300wasreturnedto
SriLankanAirlines.[26]

TheremainingfiveBoeing777300ERsordermadein2002waspostponedto2017becauseofalackoffunds.In
2016,beforethedeliveriesofBoeing777300ERsstarted,BoeingofferedtoexchangetheorderofBoeing777
300ERtoBoeing787whichwaslateracceptedandtheorderwasexchangedwith8Boeing787s.

AsofJanuary2017,PIAretiredalloftheAirbusA310300sfromitsfleet.Forreplacement,PIAleasedfour
Boeing737800fromPegasusAirlines.

Corporatemanagement
Structure

PakistanInternationalAirlinesCorporationLimited(PIACL)ismajority
ownedbytheGovernmentofPakistan(87%)whiletheremainder(13%)by
privateshareholders.TheairlineisundertheadministrationofMinistryof
DefencethechairmanofwhichwasMuhammadMianNawazSharif.The
airlineismanagedbymanagingdirectoraswellastheBoardofDirectors.
TheBoardconsistsofnineindependentnonexecutivemembersandhas
foursubcommittees:anAuditCommittee,BrandandAdvertising
Committee,FinanceCommittee,andHumanResourceCommitteeeach
havingitsowncharterandchairman.TheMDleadstheexecutive PIAofficeinLahore
managementofstaffwhoruntheairline.Theairline'smainheadquarters
arelocatedatKarachi[27]Airportwhilesmallersubheadofficesarelocated
inseveralcitieswithinPakistan.

Inthelate1990s,theGovernmentofPakistanconsideredsellingtheairlinetotheprivatesectorduetothe
persistentlossessufferedbytheairline.Thegovernmentannounceditsprivatizationplansbuttheywerenever
implemented.Severalstepstowardsoutsourcingofnoncorebusinesshavebeeninitiated.Cateringunits(starting
withKarachiFlightKitchen),groundhandling(startingwithrampservices)andengineering,aretobegradually
carvedoutoftheairlineandoperatedasindependentcompanies.During1997,Pakistancalledinateamfrom
InternationalFinance(IFC),theconsultingarmoftheWorldBank,toadviseonrestructuringandprivatizationof
PakistanInternationalAirlines(PIA).However,noagreementwasreached.[28]Thegovernmenthashadmany
plansfortheprivatizationoftheStateownedairline.However,noreasonableagreementorsolutionhasbeen
foundtothisday.On18February2009thecarrierwasdroppedfromtheprivatizationlist.[29]

Inyear2013,GovernmentofPakistanonceagainaimedtoprivatizetheairlineduetoincreasedlossesbyselling
twentysixpercentofshares&managementcontroltotheinvestor.

Financialperformance

Thefollowingtablegivesthekeyfinancialresultsfor2011alongwiththosesince2004.Thefinancialperformance
forFY2011continuestobeachallengewithanaftertaxlossofPKR26.767billion.Thiswasprecededbysix
consecutivelossmakingyearsdatingbackto2005.Theairlinedidreportareductionofposttaxlossesof83%in
2009(comparedto2008)basedonareductioninfuelcost,comparativelystableexchangerateforthePakistan
Rupeeandhigherrevenues.Butin2010&2011,lossesagainrosesharplycomparedtothepreviousyears.

Theairlinefacesmanychallengestoitsprofitabilitysuchasstaffinglevelsandoverallmanagementissues.An
employeecountof18,014forafleetof40aircraft[30][31]isanareaforreview.

Toincreaserevenue,thePrimeMinisterofPakistanapprovedafleetmodernisation,consistingoftwentynew
generationnarrowbodyaircraftfourBoeing777300ERsandfourATR72500turboprops.Theseaircraftwill
replacetheolderfleetofPIA.AnA310consumes$5,500ofoilwhereasa737900ERwouldconsume$2,500
worthofoil.Inaddition,withaloadfactorof85%and12.5hoursofaircraftusagedaily,anadditional72billion
rupeesor720milliondollarsofrevenuewouldbeachieved.Thiswillalsogreatlydecreasetheemployeeto
aircraftratiowhichcurrentlysitsat776peraircraft,oneofthehighestintheworld.Moreover,theBoeing777will
beusedonlongroutesinsteadofshortroutes.Thiswouldhelpreducethecostofengineoverhaul,whichisbased
onflightcycles.Lastly,35employeesmaking1millionrupeespermonthwillalsobeaudited.[32]

Boeing737300wastransferredtoPIApermanently.ThePresidentandPrimeMinisterthenresortedtousingtwo
ofPIA'sAirbusA310300sforofficialvisits,whileraretripsweredoneonregularcommercialflightsofthe
airline.InFebruary2007thegovernmentofQatargiftedanAirbusA310fromitsVIPfleet[54]tothePakistani
government,thisendedtheneedfortheuseofPIAaircraft.However,fromtimetotimethegovernmentusesone
oftheairline'sAirbusA320s,oroccasionallyaBoeing777,forofficialtrips.[55]

Accidentsandincidents
PakistanInternationalAirlinesexperienceditsfirstrecordedhulllossin1956:aDouglasDC3flewintoa
mountainon25FebruarythatyearwhileonacargoflightfromGilgittoIslamabadinpoorweather,killingthe
threecrewmembersonboard.[56]Sincethentheairlinehaslostmorethanthirtyaircraftincrashesandother
events,includinganothertwentyfatalcrashes.[57]Therehavealsobeenatleasteighthijackingincidentsinvolving
theairline'saircraftbetween1971and2013.[57]Theaccidents,hijackingsandothereventsinclude:

On1July1957,aDouglasDC3registeredAPAJS,operatingadomesticflightfromChittagongtoDhaka
inEastPakistan(nowBangladesh),crashedonamudflatintheBayofBengal,killingalltwentypassengers
andfourcrewmembersonboard.[58]
On15May1958,aConvairCV240withtheregistrationAPAEH,operatingasFlight205fromDelhito
Karachi,crashedandcaughtfiremomentsafterittookofffromDelhi'sPalamAirportonamoonlessnightin
dustyconditions.Theinvestigationattributedthecrashtothecaptainexperiencinganightsomatogravic
illusion,resultingintheaircraftdescendingshortlyafteritbecameairborne.Fourofthesixcrewmembers
andtwentyoneofthethirtyeightpassengersonboardwerekilledtwopeopleonthegroundwerealso
killed.[40]
On18May1959,afourmontholdVickersViscountwiththeregistrationAPAJCwasdamagedbeyond
economicrepairinalandingaccidentatIslamabadInternationalAirport.Theaircraftranofftherunwayinto

ThreemonthsafterthefirstViscountcrash,theairlinelostanotheron14August1959.TheViscount
(registeredAPAJE)crashedatKarachiInternationalAirportduringapilottrainingflight,whileattempting
anovershootwithtwoenginesinoperative.Twoofthethreepeopleonboardwerekilled.[59]
On26March1965aDouglasDC3registeredAPAAHcrashedinmountainousterrainneartheLowari
PassonadomesticflightfromPeshawartoChitral,killingthefourcrewmembersandeighteenofthe
twentytwopassengersonboard.[60]

Eightweekslateron20May1965,aBoeing720operatingasFlight
705crashedwhiledescendingtolandonRunway34atCairo
InternationalAirport,resultingin121fatalities.
On8October1965aFokkerF27Friendship,withlessthan500
hours'flyingtimesinceitwasdeliverednewtotheairlineearlierin
theyear,crashedwhileonadomesticcargoflightfromRawalpindi
toSkardu.Theaircraft,registeredAPATT,hitaridgenearthe
villageofPatianandsliddownitsside,theremainscomingtorest
morethan1,000feet(300m)belowtheimpactpoint.Thefourcrew
membersonboardwerekilled.[61] Thememorialtabletatthecrashsite
On2February1966Flight17,operatedbyaSikorskyS61 inCairoforthosewhodiedonPIA
helicopter,crashedonascheduleddomesticflightinEastPakistan Flight705on20May1965
afterthemaingeaboxfailed,killing23ofthe24passengersandcrew
onboard.
On6August1970,aFokkerF27FriendshipregisteredAPALM,operatingadomesticflightfrom
RawalpinditoLahore,crashedathighspeedafewminutesaftertakingofffromLahoreinstormyweather.
Alltwentysixpassengersandfourcrewmembersonboardwerekilled.[62]
On6December1972,aFokkerF27FriendshipregisteredAPAUS,operatingadomesticflightbetween
GilgitandRawalpindiinrainyweatherasFlight631,crashedinmountainousterrain.Therewereno
survivorsamongthetwentytwopassengersandfourcrewmembersonboard.[63]
On20January1978,aPIAaircraftatKarachiwith22passengersonboardwashijackedbyagunmanwho
askedtobeflowntoIndia.ThethenchairmanofPIA,AirMarshal(Retd)NurKhanboardedtheaircraftto
negotiatewiththehijacker.Hereceivedagunshotwoundwhiletryingtodisarmthehijackerbutstill
managedtooverpowerhim.[64][65]
On26November1979Flight740wasaBoeing707320CthatcrashedaftertakeofffromJeddah
InternationalAirportforaflighttoKarachi,resultingin156fatalities.
On2March1981Flight326washijackedbythreegunmenandflowntoKabul.Foralmosttwoweeks,
morethan100passengerswereheldcaptiveontheBoeing720untilPakistanreleased55prisoners.One
passenger,PakistanidiplomatTariqRahim,wasmurderedduringtheordeal.[66]
On23October1986,aFokkerF27aircraftcrashedduringapproachtoPeshawarAirport.Ofthe54
passengersandcrewonboard,13werekilledintheaccident.[67][68]
On25August1989,aFokkerF27operatingasFlight404crashedintoamountainaftertakingofffrom
GilgitAirport.All54passengersandcrewonboardwerekilled.[69]
On28September1992Flight268,anAirbusAirbusA300B4200registrationAPBCP,crashedonapproach
toKathmandu'sTribhuvanInternationalAirport.All167onboardwerekilled.
On25May1998aFokkerF27FriendshipoperatingasFlight544washijacked.Allpassengersandcrew
escapedunhurtduringtheincident.
On10July2006Flight688,aFokkerF27operatingfromMultantoLahoreandthentoIslamabad,crashed
inafield.[70]afterburstingintoflamesafewminutesaftertakeoff[71]fromMultanInternationalAirport.All
41passengersand4crewmembersonboardwerekilled.
On31August2012,ATR42500registrationAPBHJ,operatingFlight653fromIslamabadtoLahore,was
landingatAllamaIqbalInternationalAirportwhenitundershottherunwayandcametorestonagrassyarea
ontherightsideofRunway36R.Therewerenofatalitiesamongthe42passengersand4crewmembers.

MuscatviaSialkotwhenitsportsidemainlandinggearcollapsedduringlandingatMuscatInternational
Airport.Therewerenofatalitiesamongthe107passengersand7crewmembersonboardtheaircraft.The
aircraftwasdamagedbeyondrepairandwithdrawnfromservice.[72]
On24June2014AirbusA310300registrationAPBGNwasoperatingFlight756fromRiyadhtoPeshawar
with178passengersand12crewmembersonboard,whenhitbygunfireduringitslandingapproachat
BachaKhanInternationalAirport,Peshawar.Theaircraftlandedsafelybutonepassengerwaskilledandtwo
crewmemberswereinjured.TheaircraftwasdamagedbutitwaslaterferriedtoKarachiforrepair.[73]
On7December2016,Flight661,operatedbyanATR42500aircraftregisteredAPBHO,crashedin
Havelian,PakistanwhileenroutefromChitraltoIslamabad,killingall47onboard,includingJunaid
Jamshed.[74]
