Fig. 1Windows Overview

Windows of different types are installed in the aircraft flight compartment and in the
passenger compartment.

1.1.1 Flight Compartment Windows

The flight compartment has a two-section windshield and a left and right side window.
The window frame assemblies are riveted to the fuselage. The windshields and the side
windows are installed directly into the frame structure. Installation is made from the
external area of the flight compartment.

1.1.2 Passenger Compartment Windows

Passenger compartment windows are found on both sides of the fuselage.

They are installed between the fuselage frames at regular intervals
throughout the length of the passenger compartment.
The window frames are made from forgings and are riveted to the
fuselage skin.
Nine windows are on the RH side of the fuselage and ten on the LH side. In
addition, each emergency exit hatch has an emergency exit window in the
top center.

2 FLIGHT COMPARTMENT WINDOWS

2.1 FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION AND LOCATION

The windshields are located in the flight compartment between STA2770/FR4 and
STA3491/FR7. The side windows are located between STA3491/FR7 and
STA4480/FR10.
The flight-compartment windshields and the side windows are made to resist cabin
pressurization and bird strikes. The two divided panels of the windshields and the left
and right side windows give sufficient forward and side vision for the pilots.
The windshields and the windows are sealed for pressurization and against humidity by
moulded silicone-rubber seals. The windshields and the side windows are fitted with an
electrical heating system to maintain clear vision in the event of internal or external
fogging conditions.

2.1.1 Windshields

The flat-glass windshield panels are made up of several layers of different materials, as
follows:
The outer face consists of a sheet of semi-tempered glass (7)3.0 mm (0.118 in.)
thick.
An interlayer (5) of polyurethane 5.1 mm (0.200 in.) thick.
A sheet of chemically strengthened glass (4) 6.0 mm (0.236 in.) thick.
An interlayer (3) of polyurethane 3.8 mm (0.149 in.) thick.
A sheet of chemically strengthened glass (2) 5.0 mm (0.197 in.) thick.
The windshields are fitted with a silicone seal (9) which includes a packer (1) and
sealing compound (8). Retainers (10) and screws (11) hold the windshields in the
frames (12).
The anti-icing and defogging system of the windshield panels consists of an almost
invisible heating film (6) which heats the windshield panels when an electrical current
flows through it. This film is installed on the inner surface of the outer sheet of glass (7).
Three sensors control the temperature.

2.1.2 Side Windows

The curved side windows consist of several layers of acrylic glass, as follows:
The outer face consists of a sheet of chemically strengthened acrylic glass (14)
2.5 mm (0.098 in.) thick.
An interlayer (16) of polyurethane 2.5 mm (0.098 in.) thick.
A sheet of acrylic glass (17) 7.6 mm (0.299 in.) thick.
An interlayer (18) of polyurethane 1.3 mm (0.051 in.) thick.
A sheet of acrylic glass (19) 7.6 mm (0.299 in.) thick.
The side windows are fitted with a silicone seal (13). Retainers (10) and screws (11)
hold the side windows in the frame (12). The side windows are partially de-iced by a
heating film (15), installed on the inner surface of the outer sheet of acrylic glass (14).
Three sensors control the temperature.

Windows

There are nine passenger compartment windows on the RH side of the fuselage and
ten on the LH side between the individual frames. In addition, each emergency exit
hatch has an identical emergency exit window.
The outer surface of the passenger compartment windows is in line with the outer
surface of the fuselage. All windows are equal in size, shape and material and are
interchangeable.

3.1 COMPONENT DESCRIPTION AND LOCATION

The window assembly consists of an inner pane (1), an outer pane (8) and a rubber
seal (7). The panes are made of acrylic glass. The outer pane is 9.5 mm (0.374 in.)
thick, the inner pane is 4.0 mm (0.157 in.) thick. A vent hole (2) through the inner pane
lets the pressure of the passenger compartment into the space between the inner and
outer panes. The vent hole must be at the bottom when the window assembly is
installed. The window is attached to the window frame (5) with a retainer (3), six eye
bolts (4) and nuts.
The first LH window which is covered by the wardrobe (if installed) has a metal blind.
The blind is installed between the inner pane (1) and the rubber seal (7). It has the
same color as the outer skin.
Each pane and the rubber seal are replacement parts.
