Lesson Plan in Mathematics 5

Objective:
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
a. Identify different solid figures.
b. Visualize and describe solid figures.
c. Makes models of different solid figures: cube, prism, pyramid,
cylinder, cone, and sphere using plane figure.
Value Focus:
Resourcefulness

Prerequisite Concepts and Skills:

Visualizing spatial figures
Describing spatial figures
Materials: cartolina, pair of scissors, paste, flashcards, spatial figures,
handkerchief
References: M5GE- IIIe 26 pp.62, Lesson Guide 6 pp.363

Instructional Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activities

1. Drill Mental Computation

Solving for Perimeter/ Area of plane figure
Quiz Bee
1) Group the pupils into four.
2) Teacher shows a picture of a plane figure with different dimensions
Ex. 16 cm
12 cm P=? 8m A=?

3) Each group will be given a cardboard and a chalk where they will
right their answers.
4) The teacher will give ten seconds to answer each question.
5) After the given time, pupils will raise their answers. The group who
gets most correct answers will be the winner.

2. Review: Identifying Spatial Figure

What are the different spatial figures?
Give examples of real objects that are models of spatial figures.

3. Motivation
1) Group the pupils into 4 groups.
2) Provide each group pieces of used folders, pair of scissors, and
paste.
3) Let them make some spatial figures out of these materials.
4) The first to make 3 will be declared the winner.
B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Present the lesson through this activity:
a) Call the winner
1) Let them show their finished products to the class.
2) Have them describe each and identify its parts.
b) Call the 2nd placer.
1) Let them show the spatial figures they made that are different
from the first group.
2) Have them describe each and identify its parts.
c) Do the same with the other group.
Valuing: Did you make use your materials wisely? How?
What are the things you have that can still be recycled?
Why? In what way can you recycle them?

2. Performing the Activity

Matching Game
1) Divide the class into 2 groups.
2) The first group will be given activity cards with the name of spatial
figures.
3) The second group will be given activity cards with descriptions of
particular spatial figures.
4) Let the activity card holders raise the activity cards they holding.
5) Each of them will try to find their partner.
6) The first to match their cards correctly wins.
7) Let each pair stand in front and read their activity cards.

3. Processing the Activities

How did you find the activity?
How did you make spatial figures?
Were you able to create spatial figures correctly?
Did you give the description of particular spatial figures?

4. Reinforcing the Concept and Skill

a. For each 3d shape, find the correct net..
b. Let the pupils find their pair. Have them answer Get Moving on page__ of
LM Grade 5. For extra practice give the exercises under Keep Moving on LM
Grade 5 page __

5. Summarizing the Lesson

What are the different solid figures? How will you describe a cube? How
did you make different solid figures?

6. Applying to New and Other Situations

Let the pupils go to their group. Have them answer the exercises under
Apply Your Skills on page __ of LM Math Grade 5.

C. Assessment
Construct at least three of these spatial figures using art paper:

1) pyramid 4) rectangular prism

2) cone 5) cylinder
3) cube 6) sphere

D. Home Activity

Cut out pictures of objects from newspapers or magazines that are

models of spatial figures. Describe each.
