Jose Rizals First Trip to Paris

- Arrived at Paris on June 17, 1883


- Stayed at the Hotel de Paris
- Spent many hours at the museums
- Went to Paris (and Germany) for his specialization in ophthalmology
- Visited Leannec Hospital to observe how Dr. Nicaise treated his patients (with
Felipe Zamora and Cunanan)
- Visited Lariboisiere Hospital and observed the examination of the different
diseases of women (Felix Pardo de Tavera was an extern)
- Went to Jardin d Acclimation found different species of plants, beautiful
birds
- Went back to Madrid in August 20,1883

- Went to Paris on the first week of October, 1885
- He studied more about Ophthalmology
- Registered in the clinic of Dr. Louis Weckert as apprentice
- Mastered French, Italian, English, Polish, Greek languages after clinic hours
- Not economically good in Paris > Juan Luna, Felix Hidalgo and the Tavera
brothershelped him and wholeheartedly lent or gave him money for his
daily needs
- Left Paris on Feb. 1, 1886

- September 1888, Rizal visited Paris again to search for more historical
materials in the Bibliothewue Nationale
- Entertained by Juan Luna & wife

FOURTH TRIP
- Went to Paris on the Spring of 1889
- Universal Exposition
- Lived in the house of Valentin Ventura for a short time, transferred hotels, to
a little riim with Capitan Justo Trinidad and Jose Albert
- Published his annotated edition of Morgas book

- He wrote several literary works written in Fench


1. Marie Colombier-the Pistol of the Little Baroness-a review written by Rizal. He was
amazed because he found out that a woman author can write in a
manly manner.
2. The Kite and the Hen-the prose is about the start and end of Mrs. Hens story when
she lost thering she borrowed from Mr. Kite.
3. The Fisherwoman and the Fish-this is a story about the conservation between a
fisherwomanand a small fish. The Fisherwoman invited the fish to her house but the
fish only agreed if hewould touch the pink lips and white teeth of the
fisherwoman.
4. lphonse Daudet: Tartarin Sur Les Alpes-Rizals book review where he expressed
comments tothe characters Tartarin and Bompard
- Feb. 1, 1886 left Paris
