2.3 DIAGRAMMATIC LAYOUT OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION.

The task for the part of drawing the layout of electrical installation is I have studied the types of

electrical drawings which is recognize the electrical drawing symbols, know the layout and

placement of equipment and accessories increase in electrical drawings.

Electrical painting belongs to the painting technique of a building. Drawing contained in the

electrical drawing is the symbols of electricity, layout drawings, schematic diagrams, circuit

diagrams, and wiring diagram.

2.3.0 Symbols of electricity

The aim is to standardize the tools and electrical accessories to avoid confusion and

Make it easier for the parties involved perform tasks better.

Examples of symbols of electricity:

Figure 2.8: The electricity symbols.

16
2.3.1 Drawing layout

The main thing that this painting is included in the layout plans of architecture and

architects. The layout of the electrical symbols that appear in a standard electrical symbol is then

loaded in the paintings that have been painted symbols of architecture in accordance with the

requirements of a room or space itself. In general, it is filled by symbols location lighting, socket

outlets, ceiling fans and other electrical equipment. Scale commonly used in layout plan is 1:

100.

Examples of layout drawings:

Figure 2.9: The example of layout drawing.

17
2.3.2 Schematic diagram

A diagram showing the control sequence or unit user or device and the size of the primary

protection circuit protection device end, the size of the main cable and the end of the circuit and

the type of load connected in the circuit.

The connection of the load type is written on the final circuit in the form of easy to understand

for example:

3-1 x 36w (P) is defined as 3 number of fluorescent Lighting.

1 x 36w and P indicates the type of lighting used fluorescent.

2-1 x 60W (T) where it consists of 2 number 1 x 60W Lighting tungsten.

Example of schematic diagram:

18
2.3.3 Circuit diagrams

The line on the left is supply lines and the line on the right side is the neutral line. Electrical

devices located in the middle of both lines. The structure of the system has been widely

practiced and can be considered as one convenient method for describing the circuit diagram.

2.3.4 Wiring diagram

Each line indicates for each conductor of L, N, E and a cable connected to the right terminal for

each installation. It shows a method of trip wire or conductor in accordance with the block

diagram provided to one circuit. In the production of a painting exposition, a painter should

emphasize the need or interest based on the regulations.

20
2.4 ELECTRICAL WIRING SYSTEM

2.4.0 Types of electrical wiring system.

1-phase wiring systems - common in residential areas (residential area) small and medium

businesses.

a) 3-phase wiring systems - industrial and commercial (industrial and commercial area).

Supplies to Home

Electricity supply received at home (small / medium) usually is 1-phase AC 240 V, 50

Hz.

Supplies are derived from the connection between online (either R, Y or B) and neutral

of 3-phase 4-wire system (Y connection).

3-phase is of substations (substation) nearby.

2.4.1 Types of wiring

There are types of electrical wiring:

1. Surface wiring.

2. Embedded Wiring.

3. Wiring conduit - (i) steel tubes, steel and non-flexible, (ii) Trunking, (iii) Duct.

In my company, the common type of wiring that used is wiring embed and wiring conduit

(Trunking).

21
2.4.1.0 Embedded Wiring

Circuit cables installed in the wall or ceiling and do not appear immediately unless

the end of the cable used for connection to terminal accessories or load.

This method is done by immersing the cable to the parallel grooves in the walls or

ceiling that has been provided.

Normally, it takes place during the stage of construction before the building work

plastering cement (plaster) was conducted.

The cable must be carefully placed so that there is no mechanical damage to it.

This method is nice and neat. It does not face the danger of mechanical and

resistant to changes in weather, durable and cost is also low.

But this system difficult to repair when there is damage and can be dangerous when

stored nailing wall cable is hidden.

Figure 3.5: The cable was burn in the ciemen and protected by suitable size of conduit.

22
2.4.1.1 Conduit wiring

In this system, conduits used for transporting cables.

The system is used in place there is the danger of mechanical damage or chemical,

for example in factories companies, laboratories, and workshops.

The system can be installed on the surface or recessed.

Some features of this system is the wiring conduit can be used as circuit protective

conductor (grounding), easily modified to apply, durable, can prevent fires and the

cord is not easily flawed.

The system involves high expenditure and take longer to complete.

The vessels are elastic (metal) can be established according to the requirements of

the installation will be used primarily for connection to the end of the load moving or

where the load is always modified.

Trunking - The system is using metal trunking or insulating material typically

rectangular and mounted vertically or horizontally on the wall surface or the steel

frame of the building.

Cable load in the mains and generally large in size.

Figure 3.6: The cable was installed on the surface by using trunking or conduit protector.

23
2.4.2 Factors that should be considered in the selection of the type of wiring:

The type of load to be installed.

Condition of the place of installation.

The costs.

The mounting resistance.

The neat and beautiful.

The circumstances surrounding.

The length of time to complete.

Changes or additions to the circuit in the future.

Type of supply voltage.

Safety and approval JBE / TNB / JKR.

2.4.3 Cable

Cable is a conductive material that allows current to flow.It is a very important media in

electrical installations. It is an intermediate connection to supply electricity to the electrical

equipment.Since the rated current, voltage, state media and different places, different

cables are also made to suit the needs of the application.

24
2.4.4 Cable Selection factors:

The size of the cable is capable of carrying current required by a load without

heating cable.

Depreciation voltage does not exceed 2.5% of the supply voltage.

Cable insulation appropriate to the circumstances (PVK cables suitable for

temperatures from 0 to 65).

Commonly, the company used cable 1.5mm for the lamp and fan point and the

cable 2.5mm for the switch point.

2.4.5 The best way how to use cable (Uncoil cable without kinks).

Pulling plastic-sheathed cable through holes in the framing is a lot easier if you

straighten the cable out first. If you simply pull the cable from the center of the coil,

it will kink as you pull it through the studs. The trick is to lift a handful of coils (four

loops will reach about 12 ft.) from the center of the roll (left) and toss them across

the floor as if you're throwing a coiled rope. Next, walk along the length of cable,

straightening it as you go (right). The electricians we talked to prefer this method

because they can keep the cable contained in the plastic wrapper for easier

handling and neater storage.

25
2.5 EARTHING SYSTEM

Earthing system is one method of protection. It is also a connection made between the metal

and earth. Earth is the conductor of the largest in terms of size and total area coverage provides

a low impedance path for current flow is damaged or leaking. Any object that is connected will

have the ability to zero. Earth is at zero measures the difference may aid in efforts large

difference quickly. This is the fundamental purpose of the grounding of an instrument or device

that is as current return path or to safety. Therefore, grounding provides security from the danger

of electric shock and fire.

Figure 3.7: The ground cable was installed in the suitable place.

2.5.1 What To Grounded (Linked to the Earth)

All metal structure in the wiring system (not carrying current) such as metal conduit,

armored conduit, mains, catenary wire and so on.

The metal structure is exposed to an electric equipment including a non-related to

electricity such as water pipes, and frame houses.

26
2.6 INSTALLATION AND WIRING ERROR.

There are some errors in the installation and electrical wiring that we usually meet in homes,

buildings, shops, and office buildings.

Correct False

No cable connection allowed for final circuit. End circuit cable is connected because not long

enough (not allowed).

Neat installation. Trunking installation that is not finished and

ELECTRIC MOTOR CONTROL

30
3.0 BOOSTER SYSTEM HYDRO MULTI-S

This chapter will discuss on the basic principle to electric motor control and more concentrates

on the maintenance, and the specification for booster system Hydro Multi-S installation. The

objectives of learning about this project is to know how the motor control water source regulate

with the electric source.

Booster System Hydro Multi-S is designed to promote clean air pressure. Hydro Multi-S booster

sets consist of two or three identical CM, CMV or CR pumps, connected in parallel and mounted

on a common base frame, and a control cabinet with motor protection and integrated controller.

Hydro Multi-S booster sets are supplied as complete, pre-assembled and tested systems

including suction and discharge manifolds, isolating valves, non-return valves, pressure gauge

and pressure switches. To ensure reliable operation, the booster set must be fitted with a

suitable diaphragm tank. The pumps are automatically operated according to system demand

by means of pressure switches which is one for each pump.

3.1 INSTALLATION

3.1.0 Mechanical Installation

3.1.0.1 Location

To ensure cooling of motor and electronics sufficient, the

following must be observed:

Place the Hydro Multi-S in a state that can ensure

adequate cooling.

Motor cooling fins, holes in fan cover and blade of the fan

must be cleaned regularly.

3.1.0.2 Piping

Pipes connected to the booster system must be in the

appropriate size. Connect the pipe to the manifold system

booster. Which one end can be use.

Apply sealing compound to the end of the manifold that are not

use, and fit the screw cap. To achieve optimum operation and

minimize noise and vibration, it is necessary to install vibration

dampers. Noise and vibration are generated by the rotation of

the motor and pump and by the flow pipe connections and

fittings. If booster systems are installed in blocks of flats or the

first user in the channel is closer to the system booster, it is

advisable to load connection development on the suction and

discharge pipes to prevent vibration transferred through the pipe

connection.

3.2.1.1 Automatic operation

If the operating mode has been selected, the pump will operate automatically according

to system requirements the pressure switch.

When a tap is opened, water will be drawn from the tank diaphragm, if possible,

until the tank is empty.

When the pressure drops to the pressure starts to first, the first pump will start. If

the consumption is still rising, more pumps will sign up pump in operating

performance commensurate with needs.

If water consumption decreases, pressure relief will rise to first-stop pressure,

pressure switch will stop and the pump will stop.

If the consumption is still reduced, more pumps will out until the last pump stops.

36
3.2.1.2 Emergency operation

All functions Hydro Multi-S is controlled by an electronic circuit board in the control

cabinet. If the circuit board is damaged, it is able to prevent the system stops. For three

COMMENTS, ISSUES AND RECOMMENDATIONS

40
4.1 INTRODUCTION

During industrial training in Ikatan Electric & Trading, I have been observing and
get more experience how to handle and solve the any problem in different situation. In
this company, I was disclosed to the real industrial situation and hand on work. It is also
give me chance to do the wiring job myself. It make me more confident when give a
challenge job which is I have to climb the ladder to do the wiring job on the ceiling. I am
sure, all experience in Ikatan electric & Trading make enhance my confident level and
my soft skill.

4.2 COMMENT

In my opinion, the 10 weeks provided by UiTM for this industrial training is not
enough time for student to learn and gain more knowledge and experiences. It is
because the industrial training extremely short. When the practical training is done,
students are not been exposed into the more challenging task because in around 10
weeks, students is try to adapt a new working environment. Besides that, industrial
training in 10 weeks, gives a difficulty for student to find the good internship place
because many big private company and industry only take their intern with 6 months
industrial training. They said, 10 weeks is not enough to get experience because in first
3 month, they on put the intern in trial program not in production line.

4.3 ISSUES AND RECOMMENDATIONS

To provide a competitive graduated student and workforce, UiTM must extend

the time of industrial training from 10 weeks to 24 weeks (6 month). It gives more benefit
to student to exposed the real working environment and increase the soft skill after
finished their studies. Besides that, students also can get the experience in big company
like Intel, Motorola, Sony, and another big company that their intern at least in 6 month
industrial training. I do not say that, with industrial training in 10 weeks is not give a any
benefits to student, but it not enough time to gain more working environment
experiences in the future.
