Planning and Implementation

Element 3.1: Design and implement short and long-term plans that are linked to program and instructional goals as
well as a variety of student needs.

Artifact: Individualized Educational Plan

Date: Fall of 2016

Reflection:

My ability to design and implement short and long term goals was assessed in PED 356 using an
individualized educational plan. Before writing the IEP, a current level of performance for a variety of physical skills
was assessed. Based off these assessments cognitive, psychomotor, and affective goals where created for the student
and placement in general physical education or other options.
The individualized educational plan project relates to element 3.1 due to the fact, I was first challenged with
task of designing short and long-term goals based on the goals of the program. In the challenger sports lab for PED
356 the overall goal is to help students work on a variety of physical skills that could be improved. The student I
worked with was diagnosed with down syndrome and is visually impaired. This challenged me to think of the
students needs before deciding on activity or modifications. Once the goals are set implementing a variety of lessons
that help progress the students skills is the path to reaching these goals.
The ability to design and implement goals that link to instructional goals for variety of student needs is
important for all physical educators. Each one of the students we encounter as teachers is their own individual
person. Being able to plan for each of these students needs and link them to program goals, is extremely important
to ensure all students are put in best position to succeed. The planning will help both students and myself in learning
and conveying the content in the most effective manner.
