Description
Correct applications

3 Description
3.1 Correct applications
The product described has been designed for use in agricultural (mainly milk
producing) environments.
The safety feed fence with central self-locking is designed solely as a sturdy
partition between the feeding aisle and the manure alley. The individual cows
are separated from each other when feeding by the feed fence.
The most important feature of the feed fence is a simple way of holding the cow
that allows each animal to be released individually. Cows can be released at
both the top and the bottom of the safety feed fence, and a cow can easily
release itself by lying down.

Attention!
Applications which are not listed here are not part of the intended
purpose and are therefore considered as improper use!

In particular it is not permissible to

use the safety feed fence for other animals than dairy cows.
Install other parts that do not meet the technical requirements given in this
manual. The product has been designed exclusively for the parts specified
here. Using the wrong technical elements may cause damage to the
product.
The manufacturer/dealer is not liable for any resulting damage. It is always the
user who is liable.
Pay attention to the following regarding the use of the safety feed fence:
The safety feed fence is not suitable for bulls.
The safety feed fence is not suitable for beef cattle.
The animals must be dehorned.
Correct application also includes reading the instructions and observing the
inspection and maintenance conditions
Original GEA parts and accessories are specially designed for GEA
equipment.
The manufacturer expressly points out that only original parts, original
accessories and original chemical substances have been adapted, tested
and authorised for use with the product.
The installation or use of products from other manufacturers may affect the
specified properties of the original parts and lead to injury to people and
animals.
The manufacturer does not accept any liability for injury to people or
animals, or damage to the product, caused by the use of products from other
manufacturers.

3.3 Description of function

The safety feed fence with central self-locking consists of a frame with pivoting
bars which gives eating cows a large range.
In addition, the fence also allows fallen cows to release themselves more easily
from the bars.
The rack is easy to use and provides a lot of space for the cow's head. The tilting
rods can be moved into the retaining position centrally.
Cows can be released individually by pressing a button and also retained
individually by a twist lock.

3.3.1 Locking mechanism

The locking mechanism is fitted in a

U-channel at the top of the frame.
Push-buttons for operating the latch
are fitted in the U-channel. If the
operating lever is locked in the
latched position, the locking bar
moves, the latches drop into the
locked position and the push
buttons are pushed upwards.

The feed fences with central locking

are fitted with a bar to close the latch
in the upper channel of the feed
fence. Moving this bar sets all the
latches to the central locking
position.

Only use the locking position if it is

necessary to secure the cows (see
the cross-section of the locking
mechanism on the right).

The feed fence is mounted on a

support post with mounting parts.
The locking mechanism of a feed
fence can be connected to the
locking mechanism of the next
fence by a connecting bar (see on
the right). By using a connecting
bar, several fences can be operated
with one operating lever. The
maximum fence length for operation
with one lever is 40 metres.

3.3.4 Walk-through
The walk-through is used to allow persons to pass from the feeding aisle to the
manure alley. The walk-through can be created by placing two posts 35 to 40
cm apart.

Walk-Through brackets
Walk through brackets (5530-7000-050) can be used when the in-between
distance is larger than 40 cm.
One bracket makes the walk-through 15 cm smaller (two brackets 30 cm)..

3.3.5 Gate element

Every feed fence with less than 6 feeding places can be used as a gate
element.

Preferably do not fix a concrete wall beneath the gate.

Feed fences with more than 2 feeding places need a support wheel.

Use mounting strips to mount wooden planks under the gate.

A walk-through gate can be used at the closing side.

Feed fences with more than 5 feeding places require a middle support post.
Mounting parts for 2.5" are included in the supply.

Attention!
Place the support posts inside the ctc length between the midpoints of the end posts (see
the Figure) + 1 cm. This gives more space for fitting the support posts. Position the support
post for a feed fence 3.25 m wide at 3.26 m.

A safety feed fence with a length of 134 cm (5530-7001-000) can be installed
on 2.5'' support posts with a centre-to-centre distance of 136 cm.
The feed fence can be extended and the remaining 2 cm bridged by using the
mounting part 5530-1906-004.

Example: Centre to centre distance between the posts is 2.03 m.

In front of the posts with a centre to centre distance of 203 cm, a feed fence with
a length of 197 cm (5530-7001-001) can be extended with mounting parts
5530-1906-004 (+1 to +4) and 5530-1906-008 (+5 till +9).
The remaining 6 cm are then bridged.

5 Transportation
5.1 Safety Instructions for Transport
To prevent serious damage to property and/or life-threatening injury to people,
only use load suspension devices indicated below.

See also the section on Safety.

Special transport hazards

Sharp edges may cause injuries.
Suspended loads can fall resulting in severe injuries or even death.

Acceptable transportation equipment and aids:

Have suitable lifting and carrying equipment ready, such as a forklift truck or
front loader.

Attention!
Do not damage the U-profile/locking device on the top of the safety
feeding rack when transporting with a forklift truck.

Warning!
Do not stand beneath a suspended load. A suspended load may fall
unexpectedly, which may cause death.

5.2 Information on disposing of packing material
