Objective LOTS- The student will identify George Washington as a historical figure that helped shape our nation.

HOTS- The student will compile facts about George Washington on a large sheet of paper (with pictures and words.)

Summary We will have a brief discussion to introduce Washington and then we will watch a short cartoon video about Washington by
Scholastic (twice, if needed). Next, in small groups students will draw/write what they learned about George Washington on
the large sheet of paper. Next, students will each construct a short book about George Washington. We will read the book
together and discuss. Groups will add new things they learned about George Washington to their large sheet of paper.
Finally, students will present their posters to the class.

Pencils, markers, and crayons

Introduction The teacher will initiate prior knowledge by asking the students: "Can anyone tell me who the first president of the United

States of America was?" and "Does anyone know anything else about George Washington?" We will have a brief discussion
and then begin the Scholastic cartoon.

Procedure AfterwatchingtheScholasticcartoon,studentswillworkingroupstowrite/drawanythingtheyjustlearnedaboutGeorge
Washington.

Then,theteacherwilldemonstratehowtoproperlycutandconstructtheirGeorgeWashingtonbooks.(teacher
demonstration)

Activity:TheteacherwilltellthestudentstobelookingformorefactsaboutGeorgeWashingtonasweread.Theteacher
willguidethestudentsthroughreadingtheirGeorgeWashingtonbooks.Asstudentsreadaloud,theteacherwillstopto
discussimportantfactsandallowforquestionsandcomments.Afterwearedonereading,theteacherwillaskstudentsto
lookbackthroughthebookforspecificfactstheylearnedaboutGeorgeWashington.Allowstudentstoreadthatpageto
theclassanddiscuss.Thenstudentswillreaddresstheirlargesheetofpaperandaddnewfactstheylearnedabout
GeorgeWashingtontotheirposter.

Closure Students will present their "posters" to the rest of the class. The teacher will ask the class, "What is something neat you
learned today about George Washington?"
